I seriously doubt Worlds will ever be held outside of the USA. The fact of the matter is, PUI is a US-based company. In order to hold a huge event outside the US, they'd need to follow the laws of said other country. Scholarships won would have taxes paid to the host country. Release waivers, trip waivers, everything would be done in the other country's legal system. Currently PUI and all the laywers it hires know US laws, and everything they do is in the realms of US policy. I don't see them doing a massive upheaval, personally. Its much more complicated than just finding a good hotel.

For what its worth, I'm willing to bet that the vast majority of card sales are by non-OP participants. Removing OP wouldn't kill the game or likely severely injure the game's profits. Can a well-produced OP build a great game and turn out higher profits in the long-run? Absolutely. However, I don't think we're there yet.

I seriously doubt that OP doesn't account for a lot of sales. They probably account for more sales than ever before. I think there's less people who simply buy cards to collect. Without a tournament structure, (even just cities and Pre's), I think A LOT of people would simply stop buying cards.

The thing about players quiting because they dont think they can get an invite....if they quit for that reason, then they suck. If theyre only playing to get to worlds, then theres something wrong with that...I personally play to hang out with friends and have fun. I didnt to flash hot at worlds (104th to be precise), but I learnt a lot more by not bineg a sore loser and taking on peoples advice and having fun, than If i had been miserable every time I lost...I might not make worlds next year, but I dont care...I still have nationals and all the other premier events to look forward too...whats one fun event compared to the other 4 or 5? absolutely nothing. You shouldnt quit because you dont think you can get an invite...its weak and shows just how lazy some people can be.

Yes, I do. Yugioh's popularity has been declining for quite some time now. Here are some signs.

1. The set production of Yugioh has rapidly increased. They're now producing new sets much faster than they did when they first started. This is a tactic used by many card games, including but not limited to Neopets and .Hack//Enemy, to try and recover players that they are losing.

This is not true. Yugioh for at least two years now has been releasing four sets a year, which is probably fewer a year than it was releasing before.

Um... you're wrong on that.
Actually scolarhips and trips are available in ANY OP country, internationals too. And players gets their scolarships available, no matter from where they comes.
Same for trips.

And I'm sure that PUI is thinking about a real world tour for Worlds. Now it is possible, which wasn't possible in the past for the already explained reasons.

We use to go to yugioh every weekend. Now its pokemon. We still go to Yugioh prerelease. In Dec. on a ice road condition and the threat of closing the highways down over 400 kids came to the prerelease. Last month on a beautiful day the prerelease didn't make it to 90 people. So either Yugioh is dying or kids like to get outside and play on beautiful days. We would not have gotten in to pokemon if it were not for OP. And if OP were to stop than David would just play baseball full time.

I once heard someone say it would be in Japan in 2008. No one official. We had planed on going to China in 2008 for the Olympics. But now that I am hooked into this game if they had Worlds in Japan we would go. Pokemon is much bigger than the Olympics and its not on Steriods.
I thought the EX's were Pokemon on Steroids?! LOL!!

Just try to have the Worlds and nationals NOT when school is in session next time! Florida starts very early. Almost was Aug 7, but was delayed this year until Aug 14.

Tell your son to quit Pokeman and play baseball full time. Will Pokeman provide him with a lucrative 225 million/10 year contract? No, but baseball can.

Prof. Dav. has lately given the strongest response yet on PUI's thoughts on having the World's in future being held OS (see my edit in the first post).

I wonder what the process will be in deciding which countries host the new, fully mobile, World Tournament of Pokemon? Will it be the second largest population of players; the country of origin; Australia - we hold some great events?

Worlds 2008 is two years away, so right now it doesn't really matter where it's going to be held. This is, y'know, 2006 and all. =/

Dav has said before that Worlds are planned 2 years in advance, so it is feasible that PUI has already determined the location, date, and number of participants in Worlds 08.

So this subject is free for debate IMO.

agreed 100%

same here, it's only fair Japan gets it first, they made up the game. like haveing the Olympics, Who ever come up with the game should have to first shot of it.

Idk why the worlds been held in the USA alot, It would be neat and cool to see worlds in another country.

it is call worlds and over 20 conturies tend to it every year. why not, Have it move to contury and to country?

and if they starting doing that. They really should started in the homeland then move it around the world.

Japan would be a very strong contender. It's possible that the tendency of PUI (particularly lately) to sync the OP with Japan is a clue to having them at the top of the list for Worlds 2008.

I agree completely, although I don't think that will happen as soon as 08.
IMO, this change in structure will result in a lot of US players leaving the game, because they don't think they have a chance at Worlds any more. The US is where Pokemon makes most of its money - and if the money they make here is significantly reduced, budget cuts will be in order...worlds will become smaller and smaller.
It's a vicious cycle. As worlds grows smaller, people start quitting. As people start quitting, worlds grows smaller.
Eventually, there will be no worlds, and quite possibly, no Pokemon TCG.

Then how come Pokemon has GROWN in Europe, with no Worlds here, and much much less Premier Events here than the US? Please tell me that! The media attention that followed in Finland after the return of it's Pokemon World Champion only shows a bit of what great potential there is in bringing Worlds to, say Europe or Japan. (Oh, btw Japan already has a great Pokemon showing even tho there's not been a Worlds there either).

Even though POP is a US based company, its still a company that has origins from another country. So you can't say that Worlds will always be in the US because POP/PUSA is a company within the US, because it frankly doesn't make much sense. There is nothing really stopping them from picking a location, besides its "The World Championships", I would find it quite bias if the tourney was held in one certain area every year, it just wouldn't live up to it's name (people would start considering it another "Nationals type event"). It would be like having the Olympics in Greeces or Athens every time, which would stop people from entering into the tournament or going to it. So I say, here is to Worlds 2008 in Japan and 2010 in Mexico!!!!
