Worlds Prize Structure

It is amazing the bravado on the Boards of some of these l33t -ist kids, but IRL, they SHUN the great prizes given to them!! Backpack, jackets, etc....come on! Wear them w/ pride! (And don't make fun of those that DO wear them w/ pride!) GIMME GIMME GIMME the CASH and CARDS, but dont give us scholarship money in reserve, dont give us jackets, free tshirts, backpacks, etc etc etc!! Maybe the reason you FEEL so elitist is bc you DONT spread the GAME by spreading the WORD that this is a great game w/ GREAT PRIZES! Spread the word, spread the game, everyone wins bc then PUI has a bigger base to sell to, which increases their imput into OP and prize structure.

Heck - I wear my Professor Jacket in the fall and spring into work all the time.

It is a sharp jacket - and actually get compliments on it.

A lot of people at my firm were a bit skeptical on the whole Poke thing, until we won the paid trip to Disney, and Drew won the $1000 scholarship.

Makes some heads turn.

I think the players of the Top 32 should at least get more than the Sportsmanship award. Those were assigned to people for [losing] i mean why try to even make T32 when you can be a good sportsman? Its not like there was a shortage of prizes and a T32 Tropical Wind would be nice too.

by: SomethingElse
What, and rip off those who got 128 and down? But then again, they got sportsmanships awards for doing bad, so meh they're ok..

by:JasonthePwnda
Whats the point in winning when losing gets you a box of every set for a year and getting into T32 by going 4-2-1 against the best players in the world gets you 4 packs?

by: JasonthePwnda
Well i agree it was a good event, and no i was not eliminated in Top 32, but it seems like a total waste to give stuff for LOSING and players who really tried didn't get anything. I mean, Pramawat just decided to lose from there, and he got a good sportsmanship award. That in itself is not good sportsmanship, so yeah they werent really "sportmaship awards" but more like a "low-performance award."

You're mistaken. The top 32 were not excluded from the Sportsmanship Award. Our son made Top 32, AND won a Sportsmanship Award.

.

we never said they were, but majurity of the people that bombed in the event for some reason ended up getting the sportsmanship award.....

I believe you need to find out what a majority means. That would be alot of people getting sportmanship awards and I think they may have only handed out 12 at the most. How many people were in each age group?...around 128 in each (88 in the 10-).

i believe every player without wins by the end had a sportsmanship award.... thats pretty much the majority.

Wow, you guys just make stuff up when you don't know the facts? Or, regardless?

As SDPokeMom already pointed out earlier in THIS thread, we awarded 12 total sportsmanship awards at Worlds, 4 to each age group. 12 of 300 is hardly a majority, last I checked.

In addition, Sportsmanship Awards were given out based on the judge's disgression. Scorekeepers recorded wins and losses. The majority of judges were not given the responsiblity to record/report scores and as such, had little way of knowing:

A. How many points a player had.
B. If he/she won the current match.

So all this bull about Sportsmanship Awards going to people who "bombed" is silly.

---------------------------------

And on a seperate note, I was wearing my Torchic watch and Hidden Legends Staff Shirt last Saturday for an event in Orlando and went through my local Burger King after it was finished. The woman at the first window, where they take the moolah, told me that I had a cool watch on and asked what it was. I told it was a Pokemon. She was a hottie. So uh, wear your Pokemon stuff l337 people and you'll meet h07 ch1kz.

im not going to argue anymore, i dont need enemies ( well, more enemies than i have) and i REALLY dont want to upset Master Dav. Also, there is no point, if you dont get it now (or if i dont get it now =P) theres no way itll ever be agreed on.

So lets do a little math...

If there were 12 given out to the 300, that means that 4% of the players got a Sportsmanship Award, right?

If you take the Top 16 in each age group, that's a total of 48 players. If only 2 of them got Sportsmanship Awards, then that just over 4% (and, as a result, an equal distribution among the Top 16 as there was in the general population).

Did 2 players in the top 16 get Sportsmanship Awards? I know that Dark Sneasel did. Was there another one?

i said a majority of people who bombed, 300 people didn't bomb =/

Well, let's do the math then.

There was a sportsmanship award given on Sunday in the Top 16, so a total of 3 for each group were given on Saturday.

There were 300+ people in the event, and on Sunday, there were only 48 remaining. Which means that 252+ players "Bombed" out.

Of those 252+ players, NINE (9) recieved scholarship awards.

The word "Majority" Defined:

The greater number or part; a number more than half of the total.

As you can easily see, 9 is not more than half of 252. So therefore, a majority of those who bombed did NOT recieve sportsmanship awards.

Thanks for playing!

Prof. Dav

Hey, it's MATH DAY on the Pokegym!

Ok, so 3 Sportsmanship Awards were distributed among the 48 players on Sunday. That's 6.25%.

That's more than the 4% that was given out to the general population. I object to the top players getting not ONLY better prizes, but also a heavier distribution of Sportsmanship Awards.

The 1337 get 13373R and the poor get poorer... LOL, I made myself laugh!

Dave: Do you have stats for how many people with an 0-X-X record got Sportsmanship awards.
Apparantly at least one did, and I think they're extrapolating that one into "all" or "a majority".

The thing is, though, since awards were given out throughout the event, how did the Judges know in advance who was going to "bomb out"?

I mean, we're good, but I didn't know we were psychic!

Apparently Gorn is trying to be funny and sarcastic with the admins and master trainers and judges. My opinion, he's not exactly the pokegym's best comedian, in other words, he isn't doing a very good job. Check your math again Gorn, PokePop actually comes up with a very good point.

bombed doesn't mean going 4-3 and not making it, bombed is like a 0-3 drop, or staying in the whole time and going 2-5, or even worse...

and can't the judges just see who's at the bottom tables and no who's doing bad? -_-

Pokepop, you know what? I think, in my opinion this thread should be locked and deleted because it will just carry on forever until someone comes up with something else to complain about. First these people complain about our friendly neighbors across the sea, and now they complain about the prize structures for the premier tournaments. First it's prerelease prize structure change and now it's Worlds. It won't stop so Pokepop, you might as well do the same as you guys did with the threads about our friendly neighbors across the sea, and delete and lock this thread. That should put a stop to all of this pointless complaining.

I judges the top tables all the time and was asked every round for examples of good sportsmanship.
Judges were not told to look for people that were "crapping out".

But pointless compaining isn't against the rules. :p
As long as it stays civil.

i didn't say that the judges didn't look for people who crapped out, imo they're really was no way to perfect this, but my friend that was at worlds played honest, he had 30 seconds left and could've stalled out the game and won, giving him a guarantee into T32, and then decided not to be a total....something, i guess i can't say it here, but a guy trying to win it all, and let the person he knew take a turn, and lost, and ended up missing T32 because of it. The judge watched the end of the game, and even said how courteous that was, but he ended up not getting a thing. Who won the next sportsmanship award in that age? another person i know, who was at the bottom table, doing horrible, and definantly wasn't the most "sportsman" there.....
