Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Worlds should be east west US yearly

1. NJ isn't even CLOSE to Japan.
2. It can be anywhere in Texas not just Houston, I just said Houston because it is a very common place in Teaxas for tournaments.
3. Texas is more centered for the US. NJ is not.

NJ sounds like a great place for a vacation, just not Worlds.....

Do you understand what sarcasm is?

Do you understand some people don't ALWAYS understand sarcasm, especially on the web. Just because I missed some sarcasm you didn't have to comment about it. I find that very rude.

The way you were ardently defending a Texas location was very admirable. Unfortunately, it's a fact that Wildwood, NJ is a superior choice in every single way!

let's back off with the assumptions on 'who' this family is, please...as you could very well be wrong, and slandering an innocent player/family in the process. for all we know the OP's suggested worlds location is a favorite vacation spot instead of their home state...

thanks
'mom

Face it folks, every year someone makes a post like this and we always get the same responses.

Personally, I enjoy getting to go to places that are not in my backyard. Yes, Denver or my soon to be home of Orlando would be great, but I really get that Denver is not a family vacation spot, even though there is plenty to do, and that the weather in Orlando sucks during that season.

Yes, I am also lucky that I have been able to travel for events and that not everyone can, but really - do we always have to whine and complain about the locations every year?

What happens at worlds this year when next years location is announced? Easy, everyone will continue to complain - since it is not next door to their house.

Being next door to where one person lives is great, but what about all the other players that have to travel? Quit being so greedy...

Agreed with SD_Mom about assumptions.

Consider instead of people asking for what they want (squeaky wheel gets the grease mentality), people just kept quiet?

If I lived in California, and flights to Hawaii were about $300 less for me than for East Coast players, and I could drive to Worlds every other year, why would I complain? Why even participate in the conversation if people will just get mad at someone for suggesting a change to the status quo? Silence can be selfish too.

I think people don't understand why these venues are chosen. This isn't a transparent thing. If people understood exactly why Kona and San Diego were picked as venues for Worlds, they could offer much better suggestions as for where to hold it in the future. On the flip side, ideally Pokémon has a professional who figures this stuff out. For some reason, Kona and SD are the only two options.

I think people on the East Coast wanting Worlds to be near them isn't unreasonable. Nationals isn't close, but it is drivable for many of us. Worlds hasn't been even arguably within driving range since 2008. I doubt it will be next year either. The West Coast is /always/ closer to Worlds, but other people wanting their turn to have a nearby World Championships is greedy? GMAB.

i don't believe that the decision on where worlds is held is meant to be 'transparent', nor is it open to suggestion from the player base; those who make the decision are not going to explain nor justify it.

it simply is what it is; thinking that petitions, threads on the 'gym or whatever are going to influence the decision is just going to lead to frustration when the next location is announced and player 'votes' were apparently disregarded. OP is not a democracy...we have no idea what goes into making the venue choice, but i'd guess player demand isn't part of it.

jmho.

What about instead of having just the lcq at worlds with the top 16 people (or however many iit is) getting an invite what about having a few different ones like east and west cost and one or two in europe and wherever else that i may be forgetting and just have the top 4 from each lcq getting an invite that way more people can go and if you dont make it you didnt have to spend as much flying or traveling to the event and trying there

See that other thread...

Really, it's because TPCI doesn't know how many invites to give until the night they give them based on how many competitors check in.

The LCQ is NOT supposed to be Nats part 2. Everyone already has a chance of qualifying for Worlds in their own country through Nats.

Ugh, this again? Stop whining. Worlds isn't gonna be convenient for EVERYONE. It's already inconvenient to a point for all foreign players because it's not even in their own country.

Here's the problem with the East/West US breakdown.

Japan makes the rules.

If Japan wants it done, it gets done.

Deal with it.

I agree that World should be held in the continental U.S. perennially
The United States does in fact have the largest player base; proven by a nationals attendance of over 1500 tcg players (1005 masters).
While the OP's motive may be questionable to some, the overall point has grounds.
In this regard, among many others, Pokemon has a lot to learn from MtG. Not to say that things should be the same, but they're obviously doing something right. If you want the game to become larger and more competitive, you simply have to make it more accessible.
Perhaps a group will start organizing their own tournaments and that would help pokemon get larger. And perhaps those tournaments would become popular enough to light a fire under the collective rear end of P!P to the point that they start listening to suggestions. Perhaps.

Do you really think that the US player population is larger than the one in Japan? Really?

Seriously guys? A catfight on a Pokegym Worlds forum. Bad but not surprising, people can get very defensive about their hometown/ favorite cities. BTW sarcasm is identifiable by tone, so typing it out on you keyboard may not have the effect that you wish...

Anyway, LOLZ brings up a great point: Why not share the love internationaly. I think it would be a great chance for many players to play the game while seeing the world. Instead of hosting it in a different part of the US, say New Jersey, host it in Jersey, England. Travel a few hundred miles more (or less!) For an even more beautiful location.

But still, shame on the fool who complains about a trip to Hawaii...

The attendance numbers we have seem to argue that this is the case.

At very least, we have a LOT more players are Worlds.

Anyway, while I don't think we should have Worlds on the East coast (west coast is most convenient for Japan, as has been said a lot), I really DO think we should stop holding Worlds in Hawaii. It's expensive and most players are sick of shelling out all that money. Even European and (to my knowledge) Japanese players have to spend more when Worlds is in Hawaii than in, say, San Diego.

Here's the problem: we don't ever get accurate attendance information out of Japan. But based on every report I've seen from Japan shows 500+ person tourneys fairly regularly all over the country. I don't know if they have an open National Championship like we have, but I'd guess they'd get at least our 1500 under such a system.
