Frankly, I just don't see why Fairy should get its own type when we have so many types that go unrepresented. Why can an ice pokemon do double damage to a fire type? Why does a Hitmonchan do double damage to a Pikachu? Why does a Golbat do double damage to Blastoise? why does my Pidgeot NOT do double damage to a Weedle?

If we're relying on video game logic, there's a lot of knockouts that don't make sense. Before anything another type to the mix, perhaps they should go into fixing that, or would it make the game too complicated? In my ideal situation, we would have, say, water and ice types... but both would utilize water energies. Same with ground and fighting, or grass/bug/poison, or flying/colorless, etc.

Why ? For marketing reasons ;)

What was the reaction when they added the dark and metal type ? What was the reaction when Dragon type was out ? What reaction will be if they make a fairy type for x y base set ?

For now we know very little the characteristics of the fairy type. It is too soon to know if the fairy type is worth to deserved its own colored type or not.

But what you say it not tue. All types are represented with its own characteristics :
- Normal : Normal type + Fighting Weakness
- Fire : Fire type + Water Weakness
- Water : Water type + Grass/Electric Weakness
- Grass : Grass type + Fire Weakness + Water resistance
- Electric : Electric type + Fighting Weakness
- Ice : Water type + Metal Weakness
- Fighting : Fighting type + Psychic Weakness
- Poison : Grass type + Psychic Weakness or Psychic Type + Psychic Weakness
- Ground : Fighting type + Water Weakness + Electric Resistance
- Flying : Normal type + Electric Weakness + Fighting Resistance
- Psychic : Psychic type + Psychic Weakness
- Bug : Grass type + Fire Weakness
- Rock : Fighting type + Grass Weakness
- Ghost : Psychic type + Dark Weakness
- Dragon : Dragon type + Dragon Weakness
- Dark : Dark type + Fighting Weakness + Psychic Resistance
- Metal : Metal type + Metal Weakness + Psychic Resistance

I don't see where fairy can fit there. Maybe normal with some different weakness if they don't get their own colored type.

It's all about the colors, man!

There are a couple things I believe prevent just throwing all 18 (I think that is the current count) Types into production, and a lot of it is about representation.

Again, not worrying about Energy Types, each Pokémon Type in the TCG needs a distinct color and symbol. Unfortunately, a lot of TCG cards (like Energy) use several shades of a color. Newer Basic Energy cards seem to be lessening this problem, but they still have multiple shades of the "Color" associated with a Type. Color is pretty important to this game - one of the reasons cards are a bit easier for less experienced players to use.

Color-associations are, if not hardwired into our brains, established there early on. What Color would an "Ice-Type" be? Water-Type obviously uses blue... and it has some lighter blues and some darker blues on it. Colorless already uses "white"... what other color really feels "Ice-like"? I suppose if you get the correct shade of green it might work. Flying-Types on the other hand seem a natural for white (color of clouds), yellow (sun-like), or blue (like the sky) and... all those are taken as well.

Then there is the issue of representing Types evenly - in the Black & White era, a set may be low on a Pokémon-Type, but if it is a full set (e.g. not Dragon Vault) then it has at least one Pokémon of each Type, though perhaps the Fairy-Type could end up evening things out a little.

As for more accurately representing Types as well as making Types seem more distinct (via what they can accomplish), I too would like to see this in the game, but again I realize that is challenging. I think a major hurdle to overcome is representing dual-Type Pokémon as just that, in the game.

Fairy is weak to metal, so if they don't do a new type, they could easily do a Colorless type with Metal weakness and Dragon/Dark resistance.

Printing a new Fairy type would give us Pink cards, make a few cute Pokémon more represented (Gardevoir is rarely printed, Jigglypuff's family used to be so weak and rarely printed, etc), and thus target a female audience more easily. During 5th Gen they tried to target the female audience (Starter decks boys & girls versions, Shiny collection for examples), so I won't be surprised to see a new type.

I think they will do two type (colorless and fairy) kind of like what they did back in the ex expansion where it was one type then either dark or metal too. But do this with Fairy and Dragon or just Fairy maybe put in a subtext (ability) that is individual for each and specifically does things to Dragon types.

I would like to see "Dual-Type" cards return, but I want them to simply be "dual-type" Pokémon. Nothing more complicated than that. I assume that whatever approach is used, it won't be allowed to "stack" with similar approaches... in other words, if we had "aligned" cards similar to how Team Plasma was executed now (unlikely in the first few X&Y sets anyway), where the background and boarders were different and the card had a small reminder bar in the corner of the artwork, that same trick won't work for indicating dual-Type Pokémon.

Again, I am talking about "in general"; regardless of whether a Fairy-Type exists or not and for all the assorted (video game) Dual-Type Pokémon that would have two Types converting to the TCG. It lessens the redundancy of many Pokémon and allows many to gain advantages similar to what they had in the video games. The TCG doesn't need to and shouldn't slavishly recreate the video games, but it is based on them nonetheless. Dual-Types might also be allowed double Weakness and Resistance to further distinguish them... and if all that seems to complicated for newer players, just remember that not all cards have to be this way.
