No High Rollers in Pokemon

For all of the people who are saying "OMG Your so stupid why do you even use dice!!11," it's because they're so efficient.

With dice, you can use convenient damage counters which very rarely obscure more of the card than just the picture. It is also much easier to count up the damage. I appreciate the liberties we get on dice this way, but I think it makes life just a little bit easier for a lot of players.

When it comes to starting off the game, people decided to go with the method of "highest roll." Where I play, we usually used 2 dice to drastically lower the chances of a tie, but people still use one in some places. I'm not the sort of person to go through probability distributions, statistics, e.t.c, but I'm sure the probability is still 50/50.

The rule changes is like the bans but on smoking in public places and whatnot, giving off polarized opinions. The people who do it, didn't like it, and the people who don't aren't bothered, and think it's unreasonable that the people who diddo it do find it unreasonable.

However, if it is possible to determine who goes first by dice still, the problem can quite easily be offset. I think it's just gonna take a bit of time to realise that.

We have the same odds, so it's all good. It does make since cause the rulebook says 'flip a coin..heads or tails' It's just going to be hard to get used to though because I'm so accustomed to high roll....xD

one of the main reasons we use dice is because the artwork side of the 'coins' are heavier than the tails side, meaning its tails more often than not. we've always done it as highest role, tournemet or not. i think this is a bad decision to reinforce this at nationals/worlds, hopefully the power of the public (in favour of dice rolls) wil prevail.
You can use a die, you just use this simple method of determining Head/Tails.

Even Number=Heads Odd Number=Tails.

SIMPLE!

I just don't get why y'all wont look at it right.

I use to do high roll, but now that an official ruling is out, I'm going to HAVE TO do heads/tails, or I can just break the rules ! And that's the way it's just going to have to be...

This is information that has been passed to all PTO's from PUI. There does not have to be an "official" notice because it is already written in the rule book.

Everyone against this just needs to take about 5 steps back and realize its really not that big a deal. In 1 month this will be a non-issue as we all get used to heads/tails

Can we get 3 claps for Clay?   Why??? Well, because he's 100% right 100% of the time!!!
WHAT>>>NO PROPS FOR THE MAN WHO YOU DECLARED AS BEING RIGHT 100% of the TIME?
See, I told you!!

I still wonder if the Japanese players get to ignore the rulebook and play RPS to see who starts games.

You've asked three times now, but who do you expect to answer this question?

POP isn't even making a comment about this enforcement in their system, you expect them to comment about Japanese play??

None of the other members have any idea either.

Who are you pushing to answer this that you keep repeating it?

To save on purple pixels, here let me say it one more time since some members can't seem to hear it:

You can still use dice

Got that?

Let's not open up the D20 argument again.

This is why they are moving to this.

Go to one of my events with a D20 and it is only a damage counter for you.

Other people prefer them as ramdomizers.

Vince: I'm not saying anything about D20 or D6 or any specific dice size.
My shock is the statement that a judge seems to have told someone that they can't use coins!
That is a violation of POP rules if any judge did that!

I'm glad mine doesn't! A player has his/her right to a COIN, I think....

hey guys
i havent played for a while... so dice aren't allowed anymore? (kinda confused)
Dice are still allowed in place of a coin.

When you start the game one player flips and one calls heads/tails. The winner of the flip starts the game.

If you want to use a die for that flip it is fine.

What you cannot do any longer is use "high roll" to see who starts the game.

D12 is the best for rolling IMO, is isn't too ball like (D20), and not too block-like (D6)
Unfortunately, your opinion means nothing officially, unless of course you are the Head Judge at the tournament. They get to decide which randomizers may be used in addition to Pokemon coins.

This is an international game and in some areas of the World they have no concept of using dice instead of a coin, let alone the concept of high roll replacing something as universal as a coin flip.

This is the common denominator which can be used to breakdown any further argument.

If you can't make sense of that, just... don't make a reply.

Is League a sanctioned event?

*checks who supplies the support for it.....*

Looks sanctioned to me.

Cyber: League is a training ground, especially for new players.
So, it is best to teach them what they'll have to do when it counts, or best to teach them what will cause problems down the road?

As a Professor, it's not really about what you or I like.
It's about helping do what needs to be done for things to run smoothly.
Especially when its such a minor thing to deal with.

FWIW, I agree that more sides make better randomizers.
As long as they are ideal polyhedrons.
