Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

does pokemon have the same problems as yugioh with cheating

I saw cheating in pokemon, I was one of the victims, then the guy got caught in the semifinals of regionals and has a nice 18 month vacation from pokemon. Stacking your deck right in front of a judge is a big no no.

You forgot to mention that Pokémon's prizes are X3. I believe that YGO is only 1X.

And i like YGO as all the players i would not want in Pokémon are there. :thumb:

Well, there's more reason for them to cheat at YGO also, lol; only 1 set of prizes.

^*articjedi* Not true in Yugioh.... it can be so corrupted at times, but IMO they are both TCGs and they both will have cheaters. Everything you experience will probably have cheaters so deal with it be smart and watch your opponent, people etc.

These are the type of comments that make me and a bunch of friends not want to play any card game. Why bash another TCG or say you do not respect players that play another TCG? I will say the same thing here that I have said in other TCG forums when I see bashing of other games, if you have nothing nice to say, then you shouldn't say anything at all. This was a simple post asking about cheating and if it happens also in Pokemon. Bashing players who play other games or say you have no respect for them is negative and counter-productive. Not all players who play YGO, or any other TCG game have the same attitudes and it is an irresponsible thing to say that they all have attitude. I know many, many YGO players that are very respectful and have great attitudes. I also know some are not so great. I can say the same thing about players in Pokemon, Naruto, WoW, Magic, even DuelMasters when it was active and the list goes on. You meet all kinds of people with all kinds of attitude, good and bad. However, to say you do not respect all players of that game because of their attitude is not a very "grown up" thing to do, don't you think? If you like Pokemon TCG better, so be it and that is your opinion and you are entitled to it, but negativity and stereotyping of the players of another game shouldn't have a place on any forum board, here or UDE boards and I have voiced my opposition when someone there bashes other TCG players. There is one thing that YGO, Pokemon, Magic, WoW, Naruto, etc. all have in common. They are all TCG games and players of one game should not be so negative to players of another game or stereotyping players of another game.

Sorry for my rant, but it really does strike a nerve with me to see negativity towards a group of people when the reason is such a stereotype. I repeat, NOT all YGO players have bad attitudes and I have met a good share of bad attitude Pokemon players as well as those who cheat. That comes with any TCG or any gathering of so many different people with different backgrounds. Try not to be so negative about players, in general, of another group or TCG. That makes you look like you have the same type of attitude you speak of. Try to respect other's choices to play a wide range of games and respect other's choices and opinions without sterotyping.

Getting off soapbox now.

Sorry dude, but experiences have shaped my opinion. All but ONE YGO player I have met have left me with a bad impression. When you see a group of 10 year olds begging a 16 year old to teach them how to stack their deck you know there is something wrong.

I think voicing my opinions is a very "grown up" thing to do dude, and if you do not like them, too bad. The fact that the game has such a huge amount of cheating going on lowers its players a great deal in my eyes. The cards are not the one's doing the cheating... catch my drift?

I used to play YGO and found it to be such an incredibly unfriendly and unwelcoming community that I quit.

So this post is on topic, the cheaters I have encountered in pokemon are easily caught. As soon as somebody sits down in front of me and says, "I already shuffled," and starts dealing I tell them that they have to shuffle in front of me. That usually stops them. I had one guy try to deal himself extra cards at a prerelease, but since I used to know some palming tricks I caught him. It is a problem at higher level events, but shuffling your opponent's deck ensures that it never happens.

Sorry if this is a //Rant\\ but i disagree. There are still ways to cheat even by shuffling the deck since you get a cut. I could easily cheat in pokemon *but why would i?* by stacking a deck, they shuffle and i get last cut. Same implies to Yugioh even though you dont get last cut

If Brady is correct, it is easily possible to do that. I always assumed that you could not cut after they shuffled.

Edit: ^Yes, they do get a final cut after the opponet shuffles thier deck.
Unless you have a photographic memory, and unless you can insantly place where all the cards are and are going, there's no way your going to be able to cut into a stacked deck after anybody shuffles (and forget it if I shuffle your deck).

im yet to experience any cheating in pokémon - some of the kids misplay their cards (eveoling when they shouldn't ect) but that normally is because they are a tad bit over enthusiastic lol
im yet to experience cheating in YGO either and this is from someone who has top 4ed 2 regionals and played at Nats but i guess in the US there are much bigger prizes at stake (example SJ exclusive cards)

As I have stated before and several others have stated here is that there is cheating in any TCG. If you believe there isn't major cheaters anywhere in Pokemon, you are blinded. Now, voicing your opinions is a "grown up" thing to do. However, to say you have no respect for any YGO player is not. Those were your words, not mine. You said you have no respect for YGO players. That was NOT a "grown up" thing to say. That was what I was referring to. Stop stereotyping and lumping everyone together and maybe your opinion will have a more "grown up" sound to it. You have spoken from experience with a few, I have spoken from experience with thousands. I have judged regional events as well as local events for 6 years and I have seen cheaters and seen honest players. I have seen players with bad attitudes and players with good attitudes. I have seen the same things in Duel Masters, Magic, and Pokemon. I met people with bad attitudes, bragging, and putting other players and their decks down. For example, I met a Pokemon player who feels his deck is the greatest deck ever and any other person's deck is either garbage or net-decked at my first BR event. Did I let that 1 person make my opinion of the game and all players a bad one because of him and his attitude? No. That is called being grown up and not lumping all players of a game into a group. Like I said before, you are entitled to your opinion. However, make it an educated one and not one based on stereotyping people.

I remember our t-16 match at the 06 Texas Regionals at the space center. Do you??

What you did to me was cheating- plain and simple. I'm over it Tina, you got caught, I won the
event, it's all good. But I haven't forgotten either.

Maybe things like what happened there are why people are so quick to accuse you. Maybe not.
Either way I hope you have cleaned up your act at the table.

John.
Well first of all i really don't know how that full flame got on the floor, i knew I lost one, but whatever. You even knew that i lost a full flame before the match.

Second, when I was accused of seeing one or some of my prizes; whatever.
There was no way I saw my prizes. The only reason I didn't say anything was because there was no problem with my hand.

btw g1 my hand was spinerak, leaf energy, Eevee, Ariados, Flareon ex, and 2 other cards I don't remember.

Tina, funny how you remember parts of the match- just not what EXACTLY happened.

1st of all, the full flame was the FOIL one i let you borrow before finals began that Phil found under
your left foot( which made for 61 cards btw), so it was IMPOSSIBLE for it to be the one you "lost"
earlier.

Second TWO judges watched you look at the SEVEN prizes you layed out game 1, then put one of
those cards in your hand. I remember you did this while Mike was doing his announcements. I also
remember getting yelled at by 1 of the judges for not catching what you did.My attention was on Mr.
Cook, not on you. Obv. my bad.

Of course your hand game 1 was was fine- see above.

And for all these shennanigans you got a game loss- which was a gift imho.

Also, why is your response to the 2 allegations whatever?? You know what you did, so do I.
You don't forget games like that- or the player involved.

I don't anyways.

Actually , your right, whatever.

I'm not the one coming on here complaining about people thinking I cheat.

There are cheaters in Pokemon.

We can say what we want about SOTG, and all of that, but the truth of the matter remains, there are cheaters.

There are many of us who know their tricks, and what to watch for.

It is a shame.

When they are caught, many of them give the "no, I didn't" and try to quickly talk their way out of it.

They did. We all know it.

When there are prizes on the line there will always be players who find the value of the prizes to be greater than the value of their integrity.

Maybe it is how they were brought up. I have no idea.

I didn't lay out 7 prizes o-O. Or atleast I don't think i did.

It could have been possible that I put prizes out from the deck I took more than 6 off the top.

When i got a prize penalty you drew a prize. I didn't put another prize down. i had 6 prizes all along.

Second TWO judges watched you look at the SEVEN prizes you layed out game 1, then put one of
those cards in your hand.
Actually I had 7 cards in my hand/in play all along.
Assuming I drew my hand before I put out prizes.
If I cheated and put a prize in my hand I would have had 8 cards in play.
I don't remember if you mulliganed at all, but that may have explained an extra card.
I don't where you got 7 prizes from. If at any time I had 7 prizes the judges would have easily fixed it i'm sure.

Only my prizes were shuffled and redone, not any part of my hand.
Like I said before there was not reason to look at my prizes with the current hand I had.
======================================================================
I don't know if the one found was foil [ full flame ]or not. I knew your was [full flame].

as I remember I had a foil one in my deck that one was yours. [borrowed]

i didn't go and borrow a full flame and put it on the floor, that would be really... odd....

I took out a foil full flame OUT OF MY DECK and gave it back to you.

I don't know if the one I lost was foil ( It could have been though)
I don't know if the one found was foil either.
Unlike you I don't remember if cards are foil or not.
But I do remember you lending me a foil one.

However when it comes down to it it was my fault that [a] full flame was there. I understand that.
Messy situation yes, and I regret not keeping a closer on on my cards.
If you think I did that to cheat on purpose go right ahead. However I was scurrying around frantically like a chicken with it's head cut off to find another full flame for my deck before top cut.

I'll admit to the full flame thing because I know that was my fault.

Like I said SINCE then i have never lost a card.
OR had any 61+/59- card things.

The prize thing is different. Think what you want but I assure you if any given player a cheater or not cheater would have not needed to cheat [especially look at prizes] with the hand I had r1.

i said whatever because;
I have seen judges accuse players of seeing their prizes [or messy game play/cheating][since spr06. Not just me either. If they actually did or not is to be disputed.

I know of certain instances of "messy game play" that actually didn't happen and people getting penalties for it.

I had a judge accused me of cheating [SPR 07] because I had 7 cards in my hand and 2 on the field [7+2=9] and this was due to my opponent mullliganing twice.
[pre game set up]

I got called for Stalling at states right after I used a pokepower to use oaks Visit and I was about to put a card [not 3 seconds later I swear] under when I was called for stalling.

I can go on and on instances where I was called for something dumb.
Now I have a tendency not to say anything about it.

I have actually since SPR 06 have been accused of seeing my prizes I think once. It was vs Adam which 90% I loose vs Adam anyway and I don't really care if I loose to Adam. you can ask Adam too lol.
i scooped vs Adam at States 08.

Actually when this happened I was like o not this again. I said, I didn't see my prizes but i will gladly just let Adam win since he was going to win anyway. We were talking about this even before we set up for t2. Playing him is just a formality and to play the spirit of the game.

oh john the game I got a game loss I think you would have won anyway.
as I remember I ran out of flareon, and was low on energy.
and I think you had another flareon/aridos in your hand.

John you should know this; as I recall after my deck was shuffled by the judge I only drew into some card that helped me beat you [pokemon getting card]. [r1] now it may not have been that way if the whole supposed prize thing happened.

Enough.

Tina, John, take this to PM to continue this discussion.

Enough has been pointed out, and without taking sides, enough.

Although, I do have this request for all Pokemon Cheaters...

If you do cheat, please do so at one of my events, and just let me catch you.

Please.:thumb:

Vince

I will say this though. I think cheating in Pokemon is a LOT less prevelant than it is in Yugioh.

The few experiences I had with that game certainly have kept my kids from ever playing it competitively.

Not that they don't care about cheating, but they really have had a "whatever" attitude towards it at times that drives me nuts. Especially for younger players, or players who are not able to argue their case. Most YGO cheaters claim they can talk their way out of anything.

I don't see much cheating in Pokemon. I see plenty of mistakes, and plenty of honest people making bad mistakes. It's unfortunate that some of those mistakes can be misconstrued as cheating, but either way some of those big mistakes need penalties.

It's unfortunate that some mistakes look like cheating, but the dishonest ruin it for the honest.

yeah I kinda rambled, but hey this was over 2 years ago but I just think somethings needed to get out since John did bring it up :/

when I played yugioh it was a lot of money based too, getting a lot of super rare cards. Pokémon cards aren't as nearly as expensive as some yu gi oh cards.

Most of what you "got out" is inaccurate- and just not true!! Almost everything you said actually.
Hope you feel better Tina, but to me lying is just as bad as cheating. But if you feel better than
more power to you.

Read my last post. THAT is what happened Tina. One of the most shady games I have ever seen !

Yeah, I did bring it up- because you DID try to cheat me. Period. Spin it any way you wish Tina, the
facts are what they are. No need to take it to pm Vince as I'm
done with this conversation. Nothing Tina says can change what happened :(

I've seen cheating in a pokemon TCG 2 times. In one of them I was misleading my opponent's with wrong translations in Worlds 2008 (didn't know that it was unlegal) and i got DQd (whit a reason). Other time in Finiish Nationals final, in seniors 2008 when a guy put 3 cards under his deck with Claydol for drawing an extra card (Game loss, not eaven mach-loss). Still i think the punichements are enough for not to cheat.

naw guys you're wrong. The best cheaters play pokemon, you don't even know they were cheating. Wow cheating in pokemon is so easy. Wath your opponent cut your deck most people do it in the same place and voila you can now stack. If they shuffle you get to cut watch them shuffle and again you can stack. Play fast your opponent won't even cut your deck... like i said not that hard. You people overestimate everyone's integrity
