Worlds Invite Structure ?!

I just need to know if I should be saving my money for worlds or blowing it on traveling to cities, states, and regionals. A little info on the invite structure would at least let me know how I should be planning my season....unfortunately...i'm going in blind because things are moving slow this year for some reason.

I'm sure most U.S. players would agree.

I'm pals with lots of European players, and most of them also prefer Florida to Hawaii. All Hawaii does is make it slightly easier for Japan/Pacific and ruin it for everyone else (the majority, incidentally).

I'm English, and flights are about $1500 from here return. For me, my younger brother and a parent to attend it works out really expensive after that, hotel, spending money, expensive Hawaiian food, loss of earnings etc.

Add to that a recession with high levels of unemployment, and its not a brilliant choice,

I definately know that alot of Europeans don't like the location for the cost of it. Its a nice location, but it means alot of people can't go.

Worlds will always be easier for some to get to than others. My earlier comment was meant to simply underline the fact that what is deemed "reasonable" when talking about where Worlds "should" be held is going to be subjective.

EASIER FOR OTHERS? More likely towards to Japanese, Malaysians, Australians, Kiwis, and Filippinos than Americans. Amirite?

While, I agree with you, I am also going to disagree. My consensus from when Worlds 07 was in Hawaii that most people enjoyed it, but found it to be way too expensive. I loved Hawaii, but I didn't need to go twice in about 3 years as I feel that is overkill, but I am sure that there were good reasons for it that I am not privy to. Hopefully Worlds will not be in Hawaii until atleast 2014 after this, but I have a feeling that I am dreaming if I think that is going to happen if we keep going on the current rotation.

Which also means:

Heh.

The PI wasn't on the back of the shirts last year ;X

I don't know if they have an OP program anymore. The same goes for Singapore recently. =*(

Honest question that won't be answerable until the event: what percentage of players that played in Worlds 07, thanks to pre-LCQ invites, will be there for Worlds 2010? I'm guessing you'll probably be in the minority when it comes to players at only 07 or 2010 vs those at both.

Worlds 10 hawaii
Worlds 11 JPN
Worlds 12 London
Worlds 13 New York
-------------------

I've got a pretty good track record when it comes to PUI decisions.

Personally I'd like to play in Somalia.

ok the us has the most players that is the close so thier not going to move it out of the us.

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

ok if u had the chance to make alot of money bye selling a paid trip to worlds would u do it?
i wouldnt bc i want to win a world champoinship.
now thier r ppl that would do that.

Locations aside, Hawaii is an expensive place to stay for anyone. I just don't understand why an expensive and more luxurious location would be chosen during a recession with high unemployment, and everyone having smaller disposible incomes.

You do realize these contracts are signed up to 2 years in advance, dont you? They are at least 1 year in advance bc we find out the location at Worlds the year before.

Oh, don't misunderstand me. I am going to Worlds in 2010, I am just saying it is wicked expensive, but I do agree with you in saying that most players are going to skip this years Worlds. I know a lot of players who even with an invite can't afford to make it to Hawaii without a trip, which to me isn't the greatest thing. :frown:

Personally, I think the first solution, is to stop using the Hilton (I know they have an agreement with them) and to use some other nice hotel that is cheaper. 200+ per night everytime we go to Worlds is a LOT for some people and it would be nice to be able to stay for a little cheaper. However, I am getting way off topic IMO as this is about Worlds Invite Structure, not where should Worlds be held which is what this discussion has really turned into.

Not what I meant. You seemed to be "we've already been there once, why are we going again," and I was saying that I doubt very many people that were there in 2007 will be there in 2010, particularly in the juniors and seniors, so I think you're in the minority of people that will be at both, making it a new experience for most players. Not that THAT means I disagree; I'm sure the total attendance will be lower than non-Hawaiian Worlds.

Besides, what's a Drewless Worlds?

We've been in this recession for a while now, and it takes 6 months before it can be called that. Growths and trends can be predicted in advance, before that even happens. This recession started in December 07, but got alot worse after September 08. 2 years is generous to predict the economic situation.

I didn't realise the locations were chosen 2 years ahead, but that really doesn't make that much of a difference.
