Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

2007-2008 Modified Format Announced! Major Changes!

I love how all the Major Archtypes have been ruined/hindered.

I guess we'll see an uproar of Scott/Hanks engines.

Mario.dec, general DP2 decks, Typhlosion DP2/catty PK decks.

Gardy is ruined.

Thoughts... a bit late due to "extended vacation", nonetheless...

LM rotating is the only "surprise", but even then HP-on made the most sense, if they're going for DP-on next year. 5 out now, 5 out next year. LM's rotation is significant. I liked all the various techy basics like Roselia, Misdreavus, Lapras etc, that offered something different. Mew ex, Banette ex and Cursed Stone are obviously notable losses too. But I'm glad LM is gone to be perfectly honest

Regarding DS, how could it POSSIBLY have stayed? 3 sets out two years running = saturated format. DS-on would've basically rotated nothing significant. And people are saying they feel ripped off that they spent money on Transceivers only to have them rendered useless... =/

The most ridiculous thing is people saying DS should/might stay even with LM rotating, "because of Japan" or "because its the first Delta set". As I've pointed out before the CURRENT format is exactly the same scenario. DX came before TRR in Japan. Do we have TRR-on minus DX? No we don't.

I like Castaway, but Stadiums are pretty much dead, I can't see Scott being massive. Good, yeah, but slightly overhyped. Chingling/Chimecho/Celio/Delcatty sets you up perfectly, Castaway is really nice alongside it to keep going if, and only if, you run Tools.

I officially like the new format.

Again, DS was NOT rotated out just to get rid of the Holon Engine.
Pokemon releases 4 sets a year. That means that they will rotate out, on average, 4 sets a year.
Last year only three sets were rotated out to allow other countries' formats to catch up to the US format.
It was an anomoly that only 3 were rotated out last year.
Even if only 4 sets were rotated out this year, that 4th set would be DS.
That's the main reason that DS is out. There would have to be some major reason for POP to only rotate out 3 sets again this year. There exists no major reason. Therefore, DS is out. The only set that was questionable was LM. That could have gone either way (no inside knowlegde, just based on my understanding of the principles behind Modified). But DS going was pretty much a no brainer.
So, there is no point in arguing about how they meant to take down the Holon Engine. That may be a bonus to then, for game balance, but it certainly is not the deciding factor. If there were no Holon Engine, DS would be out anyway.

so with your knowldege do please explain why LM was rotated out.

Or if Mike, Dave, Pete, could that would be just great.:thumb:

I state why in my post.
Average 4 per year.
3 last year
5 this year.
That averages out to 4.
And I didn't know ahead of time.
My guess was that it was going to be 4.
I knew LM was a possibility, but I figured it would stay.
But even with that, I can see why they made the bigger cut, to get back to the average they got away from last year.

Feeling ripped off because you spent money on Transceiver and can't use it after September 2007 is in my opinion like complaining about being ripped off after you've completed a video game. There are very few things in this world which can be bought and will keep giving you fun and entertainment for an endless period. One day your video game is finished, beaten and has had its run. Same thing about cards you buy. Transceiver was fun while it lasted, now we're acquiring some new cards for future fun.

so your telling me they took out a whole set simply to get back on average on sets taken out each year. I understand it, but also find it very interesting:rolleyes::nonono::confused:. Any input from Mike, Dave or Pete?

They have given their input. You just seem to choose to disagree with it. Time to deal with the new rotation bc PUI isnt going to change their mind about LM.

i've read threw most of the thread and found that they have responded to the outrage a few other members had. I posted some negative stuff too but not to an extent. Most of the outrages where about the holon engine. If you would be as kind to find the post where they address LM I would appreciate if not then I don't need any other smarty pants coming and trying to be the sheriff in town:thumb:.

Do a search on posts by Mike L. I believe he was the one that commented. Of course, you could go reread the announcement on the op web site! :thumb:

Keith *wearing the white hat as the new sheriff in town*

PS Actually, the only "smarty pants" seems to be you. I merely stated that they have posted and you didnt seem to like it.

i'm actually going to be the bigger man and stop while i'm ahead:thumb:

As a player all I have to say is two words:

THANK GOD

LM getting phased out DOES hurt a little bit. Kicks my Dustox EX/Torterra deck in the butt, but my other decks don't get messed up too much.
