2010-8-9 Suicune SW 19

First.

I really like this guy in Blastgatr since it's more or less a searchable Night Maintenance. In addition, Suicune is pretty. Aside from these aspects, the card isn't great, though.

I used to use this in my old noob just-started-playing kingdra deck. I used to LOVE using the power...grab a horsea and kingdra, candy, BOOM. But realistically, it isn't a good attacker, power isn't worth the bench space, and is luxchomp fodder.

10/10 for the love
4/10 for being realistic

Wow there wanting use to review cards tha near rotated out im not going to worlds and there's not battle roads this month so its pretty much rotated out for but any ways this was a pretty good card because you can get water pokemon out of your discard pile.

Today's CotD is Suicune from SW, yet another throwaway card in a month. Statwise, 70 HP is nice for a Basic, +20 Weakness to :lightning: is bad, no Resistance is common, and :colorless: to Retreat is cheap. Aqua Recovery is the sole reason to run this (likely as a tech while at that), as it is a great Poke-Power; grabbing any 3 :water: Pokemon you want from your discard when you bench Suicune is a great effect, akin to a searchable Night Maintenance for :water: decks. Just imagine this thing in Gyarados...anyways, its sole attack, Cure Stream, is nothing to write home about; 60 for :water::water::water: is bad, and reducing damage done by the Defending Pokemon by 20 isn't that spectacular, considering the opponent can just retreat out the Pokemon in question for something else.

Modified - 4/10 (Has its uses as a tech, but nothing beyond that)
Limited - 7/10 (Obviously better if you run lots of :water: Pokemon, but the attack can let it linger for a bit)
Unlimited - 1/10 (Not much use here, better options to recover Pokemon)

Oh, I really like this card <3
Suicune as a Pokemon itself is quite cool, and also the card is very useful in some decks. I played him at German Nationals in my Gyarados, for example.
One problem is the liability to Power Spray. Therefore many players used Combee SF instead. But I decided for Suicune since that Power is just sooo effective (3 Rescues!!) and I somehow managed to pull out my opponent's Sprays before using Aqua Recover. It worked, though I got paired against 8 SP decks throughout the weekend.

So I give him a 8/10 as a Tech, and a 1/10 as hitter/whatever.

Going to miss this one......

This card made my 36 energy Octiliery deck rock. Made the top cut in a few battle roads and a 5th place spot at states. This card was just used for it's power which sadly gets owned by power spray.
Can't wiat till the SP pokemon are out!!!!!!!!!!!

It's very useful as an in-a-pinch Pokemon Rescue x3 for Water-type decks (just hope that you don't have to start with it!) Its Cure Stream attack is pretty expensive, and certainly is not the focal point of the card. Still, I think I'd rather use a Trainer card or Supporter card to get its effect, since it becomes snipe bait as soon as it hits the Bench.

More Secret Wonder cards!

70 HP is good for a basic. The lightning weakness is a sad pain, and the retreat cost is average.

Suicune's Poke-power lets you grab up to 3 :water: Pokemon from your discard pile when you play Suicune down onto your bench. The :water: Pokemon then go into your hand afterwards. Its attack, Cure Stream, does 60 for three :water: energy, which is sadly not a very good energy cost, and it reduces 20 damage from the defending Pokemon's attacks. Well, nice recovery power, but the attack is slightly disappointing.

Overall 4/10 in modified, 7/10 in limited, and 3/10 in unlimited

In modified, this card is rather decent, but it is all thanks to the Poke-power that is. The power is a great addition to many :water: decks since it can effectively grab some of your :water: Pokemon out of the discard. Because of this, it can be a nice addition to Gyarados decks, where it can help to bring back at least 1 Magikarp and 1 Gyarados that got knocked out during your opponent's last turn. The attack, however, is disapointing. Yes, it provides decent damage and has a decent effect, but the energy cost is not that good, but that isn't the only problem. 70 HP makes it a rather easy target to get sniped, and power lock can easily go through it. Furthermore, Luxray GL will easily take it down via weakness. Thus, be aware about that when using this card.

In limited, this card is much better here. The power comes into humongous help when many of your water Pokemon are in your discard pile late game. Furthermore, there isn't power lock or sniping going on, so this card is relatively safer to use in limited. Of course, once again, the energy cost is bad, but for once, the attack can be decent in a format like this. Indeed, Suicune is one very good addition for any water deck here.

In unlimited, this card is slightly below average. Lots of power lock here will take it down, and the lightning weakness can also be a pain once again. The HP is once again a disappointment, so it is an easy target; yet, Suicune still has its uses for its Poke-power. In fact, with a lot of good :water: type Pokemon here, Suicune can be a great recovery card for them here, so that's why it doesn't a very low rating in unlimited in my opinion.
