Possible Next Format Rotation.

The 2011 proffessor cup has been announced and although it doesn't mean anything for sure but the format for it is HGSS-On. I know that this may not mean anything but a post on pokebeach had indicated that LEGEND-on is Japans next format and LEGEND in America is HGSS, so here's hoping that this will be the end for SP decks. I know this is quite the rotation and it may not even seep plausible but I'd like to hear some thoughts on this theory. Especially considering the Japanese format as I don't know how theirs generally relates to ours.

Hope this was interesting.

Last year the Professor Cup format was PT-on, which people took to mean that would be this years format and they went and sold all their Uxies and Azelfs. Don't make the same mistake again.

After using the Beta version of "how to learn to play the TCG" I am starting to think it will be SF-on.

When I see cards in there of SF with text "errata applied" on the bottom........................

SF-on would be the dumbest rotation ever. All it would do is make most decks less consistent, and SP would still dominate..

I knew that this would come up and it it very well could be right bu her is the citation to the other evidence, not alluding to but directly stating in Japan it it will be LEGEND-On next format, it says it at the very bottom and links the reference from the blog it got the info from. As I said LEGEND is HGSS here so what I'd like to know is how often is Japan's format different than ours(USA)

Almost always different. Japan had a FireRed/Leafgreen-on format for many years, during which time we went through 3 different rotations. The first time Japan and the rest of the world were synched was 2 years ago with DP-on.

Japan ALREADY has Legend-on this format.

I've tested it out a little, and from what I can tell, this is true. All decks lose Uxie, SP gains even more from speed, meaning it can cut out its techs for bad matchups and focus more on consistency and mid to late-game recovery. SP continues to dominate (or would it be Sabledonk?!). SF-on and I would more than likely quit, especially considering the tremendous difference we would have from how Japan plays the game, which would be completely inexcusable.

I see every format before HGSS-On to be pretty bad and worthy of quiting. I see a very less diverse metagame with only 1-2 decks dominanting. What if P!P even decides to do no rotation and go MD-On that would be a suprise.

Considering how dominant LuxChomp is at all P!P events I've attended, they should do their best to shake things up and rotate at least everything RR and older, I'd like to see SV-and-on, considering that's the first expansion I started playing with. It leaves a few SPs and Lv. X cards in, but removes the heavy hitters everyone uses (Uxie LA, Sableye LA, Gengar SF, Machamp SF, Gyrados SF, Diagla G, LuxRay GL, Broken Time-Space, Bebe's Search) the format would be completely different, letting players experiment and build new decks, not just rely on the 'stables' that everyone uses now. I don't see why anyone would threaten 'quitting Pokemon if...(some stipulation or not happens)', if Uxie is rotated out, use another draw engine, if Machamp SF is gone, on dear can't KO any Basic for 1 Fighting Energy....I still think the most fun you can have playing Pokemon is at the Prerelease events or against a friend with the latest Starter Decks, you are actually HAPPY that you've pulled something like an Interviewer's Questions, or a PONT, etc. Were people this upset when Claydol was rotated out?

Rating: 1432.16 (Masters) (lowest in Texas)

It’s interesting to me that every format people get mad at the consistency cards.

Holon Engine was too expensive and favored Delta pokemon too much.

Claydol was in every deck and folks talked about how much they hated seeing it every game.

Uxie is the consistency card of choice now and folks are bashing it.

I actually agree this time, that Uxie is bad for the format, but it’s not because it’s a bad consistency card, it’s because we have too many good trainers and low energy attackers in the game and thus Uxie makes donks too easy. Those trainers and attacks are the real root of the “Uxie problem” IMHO.

Anyway format wise I’m hoping for HGSS-on and for the rotation to happen after Regionals instead of after Worlds.

I keep on saying we should have faster rotations like one set in, one set out.
That way people would be forced to look after other cards/decks iso playing the same one 2 years in a row.

Domination of deck XX would not last as long that way.

I can't wait to see some cards go, because I have seen them enough.

Yes I also noticed that the online beta game is being played with a Stormfront on rotation along with the new B+W rules where 1st turn player can play Supporters/Trainers. Interesting to see that the Beta uses Stormfront on, is that an early indication of the new format? Time will tell.

Nothing totally bad comes of RR-On, to be quite honest. True, Garchomp C LX/Luxray GL LX are both still in format, but they would then get reduced to tech level play which is far better than this Cyrus Engine set up and gooooooo nonsense that we currently have. If they were to go MD-on, the fanbase would lose faith in P!P, and we would definitely see a very barren season next season.

Barring that, really whats so bad? If you honestly think that there won't be many decks for play, I can list for you a bunch of decks that could still see play with RR-on, even moreso now with Sableye, Uxie, and the entire SP engine going away.

Heres a psuedo-list:

Charizard - Without the ridiculous speed of Luxchomp ruining the format, or the incredibly bad matchup it has with Gyarados being relevant, Charizard keeps HGSS Ninetales as a draw engine and Typhlosion for Energy returning. Not to mention Emboar will be around as well if you desire fire energy rush down. OBVIOUSLY you wouldn't run all of this, but I think you get the idea. (OH BTW DIALGA G WOULD BE GONE TOO), it also helps that it has fighting resistance in a potentially Donphan heavy format.

Donphan - So it loses Uxie and has some minor issues with Spiritomb/Vileplume. Did I mention that Faintgar is out of format? Okay so we still have speed and swarmability for one fighting. GG.

Arceus - Don't even say what. I've seen Arceus in the hands of someone who has played it for months now and he's top cut in every event he's been in barring one cities. This includes TWO States cuts (one a near miss to Dialgachomp in 3 rounds at Top 8) And a cities win. This deck is shenanigans in a 60 card deck box and it loses absolutely nothing next format. I would not be surprised to see this deck pulling off more insanity next season. It also helps that its two worst matchups (Dialgachomp and Machamp) are both gone next format.

Zoroark/Cinccino - This deck quite frankly scares me. Rush down with versatility. Two Stage 1 pokemon with potential to OHKO everything. Zoroark is going to be ridiculously versatile for a long time, being capable of stealing any attack with GoW's and setting up free kills. Combine this with a Stage 1 Jumpluff that can't be countered by your opponent not benching and you have some real shenanigans. Oh btw Luxray GL LX is still in format so the Vileplume argument thats inevitably going to be made is moot. I know people are looking at Emboar. I'm looking at these two.

Emboar Shenanigans - I know people are looking at it, and while my love for Serperior is relevant, I can't say my favorite Grass Snake is going to be at this party. Emboar's output is ridiculous. He just requires some good friends.

Magnezone PRIME - Regirock is gone. However it shouldn't take too much to add some more insanity to this already versatile deck. Creativity goes a long way.

Lostgar - The speed format is over. Lostgar didn't like said speed format. Slowed down format plus Lostgar = Happy Lost Gar.

Turn 2 Grovyle - WHAT DO YOU MEAN THERE'S NO GROVYLES IN THESE SETS?! I CALL SHENANIGANS

These are just a few possibilities. I would be content with an RR-on format, though more content with an SV-on format. The game slows down and goes away from: "If you can dodge a TV, you can play Luxchomp" and returns to the skill-based formats this game once required. I'm not seeing anything after PT-on being bad. PT-on would be the worst possible rotation and I know many people who would probably quit if this were the case. RR-on still has the notable cards, but they're nothing more than techs without Poketurn/E-gain. SV-on is ideal as it gets rid of Luxray and SP radar, which would be the nail on SP's coffin. Blaziken FB feat. Level X would still hang around due to being a ridiculously versatile tech, though, and Staraptor FB as well for also having good tech skill.

Lets also not forget that other sets in BW generation have not been released yet. The shenanigans prior to DP's release didn't really start showing up until Secret Wonders, though Mysterious Treasures had some gems for the slow format (Kricketune and Blissey come to mind.)

I personally want SV-on. But I would be content with RR-on.

if I hear the word shenanigans one more time... lol.

I would prefer AR on, seeing that virtually the entirety of SP cards will be done away with, but we still have cool underrated cards like Raticate AR that could maybe rise in popularity - especially when combined with E-belt. SHENANIGANS.

Something tells me it will be HG/SS though. SHENANIGANS SHENANIGANS.
