5th Benelux Cup
International Special Premier Event
The Benelux Cup started four years ago on the initiative of the former Organized Play Managers of PS Games (NL) and Intrafin (BE). At that time it was a tournament based on invites only, but nowadays the tournament is open to participants from all over the world. This tournament will be held on February, 21st, 2010 at the Nederlands Denksport Centrum Den Hommel, Kennedylaan 9, 3533 KH Utrecht, The Netherlands. The tournament starts at 11.00 am, but the venue opens at 09.45 am.
A total of 220 participants can be accommodated.
(Pre)registration starts at: January, 1st, 2010 (www.pokemon-organizedplay.nl under the navigation button Inschrijven toernooien) At the site information in Dutch, French, English, German and Italian is provided under the navigation button Benelux Cup
The size of the divisions are dependent on the number of players. The tournament is open to participants from all over the world.

Tournament structure
Participants play with their own decks in the Modified Constructed format (including HeartGold & SoulSilver if released in time) .
That means that the use of cards is limited to certain series. Prior to the tournament one has to hand over a decklist and also during the tournaments there will be deck checks.

Participants are divided into 3 divisions, dependent on the year of birth. These divisions are:
Junior division: born in 1999 or later;
Senior division: born in 1995, 1996, 1997 or 1998;
Masters division: born in 1994 or earlier.

The tournament is run using Age Modified Swiss pairings, gameplay in rounds of 40 minutes. During this part of the tournament each pairing is made randomly by the Tournament Operations Manager program, the results of the competitors will influence the pairings of the next round. The outcome of a match of each player is of importance to one’s rating and thus helps players to earn an invite for the World Championships. The 5th Benelux Cup will have a rating with a K-value of 32. (For more information on how the K-Value affects your Premier Rating, please see the Ratings and Rankings FAQ of the www.go-pokemon.com site). Based on the number of attendants per division there will be a Top-cut (max. Top-8). Top-cut will be played 2-out-of-3 in rounds of 60 minutes.

Don’t forget when you participate in this tournament
  • Take care that you have your POPid (POP ID card) at hand;
  • Read the tournament rules, so you know what to bring to this event;
  • Have your decklist form (see left under the decklist button) filled in completely prior to the tournament and hand it over to staff at 10.45 am at the latest;
  • Put your cards in the same order as indicated in your decklist, which facilitates deck check prior to the tournament;
  • At 11.00 h am the players roster and pairings are made up and the tournament starts;
  • Be at the venue on time.

Prizes
All participants receive a booster of the latest Pokémon set. The winners of each division earn a Nintendo DSi with a game. Runners up receive 18 boosters and third and fourth place receive 9 boosters each. For all participants there will be a Regionals promo!

For foreigners:

The venue is in the city of Utrecht. If you are in Amsterdam, then its very easy to get in Utrecht, there are at least 4 trains an hour traveling between the two cities (20 to 30 minutes). From the Central Station it is a short ride with the bus or tram, about 5 to 10 minutes.

If there is interest, I could pick up all international players at Utrecht Central Station and help them get to the tournament venue. I live in Utrecht, so I know the best way :)

There are plenty of hotels in Utrecht but those at the centre may not be cheap. However, as long as you are close to a train station, its easy to reach Utrecht (Main train hub of the country) anyway.

Guess I'll play the Benelux too this year now that there are ppl coming from all over

@ Darvor, in reply to your pm, this is a pretty good international tourney. Otherwise you may want to search for a weekend with 2 States/provincials, one on saturday and one on sunday. Take mr. Peppes with you though! ;p

Now as for information on the hotels, I've stayed in a lot of hotels in Utrecht so I pretty much know the good ones. For now I'd recommend Park Plaza, which is as close to Utrecht central station as it gets. Also, it has pretty good offers. 19-21st stay for 2 persons (excl. breakfast) would be E159 + 5% tax if you book today. That translates to approx. E42 per person per night. (superior room 4* hotel)

4 Finns reporting in. It is nice to see, that there are people coming all over Europe. What we are still missing is the European Championships - we should really have that. Even yu-gi-oh have that. I just made sure what kind of hotels you have there and I am very pleased about the tournaments location. Good job!

Hope to see a big tournament!

Hotel and travel information

Herewith I send a link ( http://www.booking.com/ ) with which you can find a hotel. The advantage of this site is that you can select the language, there is information about the hotel, availability and prizes and you can book online if you want. The Ibis hotel is on walking distance from the venue.
Public traffic is well organized to Utrecht; there is a train going every 15 minutes from the Schiphol Airport to Utrecht and vice versa. For routes you can use the google-site http://maps.google.com/

As a service of sorts to Benelux Cup players staying in Utrecht for a longer period:

The Friday before the Benelux Cup, the League in Utrecht City will be specially opened for international players. NOT as an official league day, mind you, just as a way to trade/get to know people/the works. If interested, shoot me a message and I'll let you know how to get at the league.

5th Benelux Cup is completely full!

:thumb: 5th Benelux Cup wil probably raise capacity within a.s.ap! :thumb:

After an overwhelming number of (pre)registrations received we were forced to close down the registration for the Benelux Cup. Although we originally had 120 seats, we already confirmed more registrations (and now it is really full!) and have compiled a waitinglist.

All those who are on the waiting list will get within 24 hours a personal message about the probable raise of capacity at the venue. Even then, if all goes as planned now, we will be able to register more participants, but promocards (which we hopefully get from TPCi) can only be provided while supplies last. A booster of HGSS will be provided to each player guaranteed!

Meantime we will see what we can do to accommodate as many of you as possible. Stay tuned for more news to come!
