Miracle: Don't take my words out of context!
I was replying to a post about Ambush and how that was shared among friends at nats.
I never (NEVER!) said that a single person was friends with anyone for the sole reason of getting a good deck.
Please show me where that was said!To quote you, that would be really really stupid to say.
How is Player A (who know someone who knows someone who knows someone who can build a good deck) more deserving to do well at an event than Player B who just doesn't happen to be friends with the right people?
Just how harmful would it be if Eric C. had his Speed Spread (Absolutions) list posted after Regionals? Are people going to "tech" for him at Nationals? Of course not. Is Eric going to just start losing now that people know his list? I'd guess and say that people already can guess 90% of his deck, so what is knowing the other 10% going to be? And correct me here if I'm wrong, but unless they see his deck right before the tournament, how are they going to know exactly what that other 10% is? Eric can change his deck after each set of tournaments, you know? Like, make it better, add in different techs, etc, etc.
I don't believe one bit that any player would be put at a huge disadvantage if their list was leaked leading into Nationals/Worlds. When it comes to large tournaments like those, knowing what (1) person played a few months ago isn't worth squat. You don't even have assurance they will be playing that same deck at Nationals/Worlds.
Some players will keep offering reasons why deck leaks hurt them but I don't agree with any of their reasons. They just don't want to lose their advantage. Call it contention and bitterness about SDs and I'd call you a smart man, but it doesn't make my points wrong.
I think it's ridiculous the way people get so angry over other people's deck choice. (IE I hate _____ because he/she always netdecks) I prefer to play against good decks, honestly.
Case 2: I was at Nationals on Friday, playing a few pick-up games with friends. Then someone (we'll call him Bob) came over and asked a friend (Fred) if Fred had the Marowaks for his deck tomorrow. The 2 continued to discuss which cards each one needed to borrow from the other for a minute, ignoring my presence. Suddenly I spoke up with, "Are you talking about the Nats Secret Deck?" Bob and Fred stared at eachother for a few seconds, obviously shaken. Then Bob said, "I'll see you tonight," and he left.
I think publishing the top 4 decks per tournament is great but, only the name of the decks not the whole deck list. Players should always strive to create new and unique decks. In fact I just created a deck that I like to call Ghost. If I finish top 4 with this deck at a tourney then I will reveal the main pokemon but that's it.
2) SD's are good once. After its used in an event it is public knowledge and should be treated as such.
Yea thats why I think you wont see alot of Ape or Ambush for worlds. You gotta be dumb to play the same deck unless its unbeatable. Everyone who is anyone that is playing knows exactly what to do against those decks. But unless you can counter a counter your better off not choosing a deck everyone expects because your only gonna get teched against and lose.^Yeah, carrying on BANGINBOX's quote.
When Martin played Delta @ Worlds, many people knew what was in it and how to play it, and even the eventual champion Teched against it. After it came out, nobody was surprised, and the deck lost a lot of power.
