A simple proposal for regionals....

Also, playing off for 3rd and 4th is wrong when points are on the line.

That should be fixed.
There should be NO 3/4 playoffs at any States. If there are, your PTO is doing something very wrong.

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

i would rather gain 50 points, a booster box, a free pass to origins, and a $300 gift certificate to nationals than just 75 points.
Why not both? If you have lots of points, but can't win or finish high at major tournaments, are you really that good?

Well, I'd guess we'd have to see the stats on that; I'm not sure its totally an accurate statement. Off topic, but worth responding to, because I'd like all the members to know that:
  • Asking staff to close your thread is a spillover from Trading where it is part of the rules; its not something you should ask for in other forums.
  • If a thread is out of control, report the post(s) and the mods will decide whether to lock.
  • Don't post for a mod to lock your thread. Mods are here to foster discussion and enforce the rules, not clean up for the member when a thread has answered the OP's Q. or turns on the OP's thesis.
Also, while we're on the subject of post/thread decorum, tho not at issue in this thread:
  • Don't post a thread then replace the lead post with 'mods plz lock'.
    • The edit button is for you to fix your post or update it, not to delete it.

You are trying real hard to prove your point Kim....

You obviously do not preach that to all your mods....

Once again, I will ask this to be locked as it has been requested before and completed by your staff.

Thank you,
Jimmy

I just read your first post...I am about to go up to Michigan States?!?!?

Did you just badly misspell Kansas?

I guess Colin did not prize the Lugias LOL.

I will lock, per request, as I think this conversation has run its course.

Unlocked.
Gotta read the mod notes, Vin

So I was going to post a new thread about this, but it's not locked any more, so...

WHAT! We aren't getting MD until after Regionals???!? Does anyone realize what that means? It's like playing states with more K value... WHY!

There's only two months left to figure out what brings down Gallade and Magmortar; so far nothing has worked for the past 4 months, so why should it be any different now?

Ugh, Jimmy's proposel (sp?) is the best thing I've ever heard.

My last post on this issue....

This is one of the MANY PM's I have recieved on this topic....

I could not have said it any better and THANK YOU to the person who sent it. Very inspiring indeed.

Hey,

I didn't really want to deal with the backlash from that thread from stating my opinion, but I felt I should just talk to you about it as a player with very similar views to my own.

I'm from ******** and I usually don't play in tournies (because the game just doesnt seem fun now) but I still like the game to be 'fun and challenging' as you say and I'm a suicidally creative player, I'll literally look to find a way to make any card remotely usable. I've heard of your reputation though as I generally stay away from pokegym, I haven't looked into why you have it :).

That thread seems overun by players who don't want their ability taken from them because they don't actually have the brain to come up with decent decks and need everything handed to them. ***** is the ******** version of that and he's a big reason why I don't post on pokegym, I worry I'm going to say something I'll regret, for my own sake. It seems to me that players like this are multiplying by the day :(.

Sure counters exist, but they generally lose to the other deck, or are inconsistnant and as you say, lose to the decks they are designed to beat. My friends and I call G&G as the physic defying deck because bends and does things that no deck should be able to do.

I think the funniest thing in that thread in against banning Garde/Magmortar was that one person said the game would be ruled by gatr, the other said it would be ruled by t2 decks and another said it would be ruled by electivire? Isn't that the point? Such a format sounds so appealing to me right now.

Anyway thanks for taking the time to read, you keep trying, I think you inspire a lot of people to do what is right by the game.

See ya
Again,

Thanks,
Jimmy

The guy didn't get the point though, Jimmy. You take away Gardy and Mag and the void gets filled with 1 maybe 2, other top decks reigning supreme.(Most likely Blissey and Feraligatr variants, I would imagine, there weren't any viable T2 decks Pre GG/Mag except Krickitune, which is trumped by gatr and blissey)

Thats actually how its always been, you can argue that our format was diverse, but there have (and always will be) a few top decks that beat the general field, whether its LBS, RockLock, Blaziken, or whatever.

At least Blissey had many, many ways to play it so you weren't always playing the same deck. Magmortar and GG can have different versions of the deck but the idea of the deck is generally the same whereas the Blissey decks actually had different strategies. Feraligatr, electivire, blissey, Kingdra swarm and T2 decks were more fun to play against then hordes of GG and Magmortar. *Raises hand for banning Magmortar and Gardevoir but not Gallade*

Blissey, Gatr, Monarchy, Posion.dec, Magnezone, Torterra, Electrivire, Infercatty, Empoleon, Garchomp, DWD, Typhlosion/Blaze varients (yes, there are others beside mag), R-gon, Gyrados varients, Lucario, Flygon, Togekiss decks, Darkrai decks, Bannette, The worms, Stalling decks, Porygon z, Sceptile varients, swampert ex varients, Beedrill, Butterfree, T2tune, T2doom, and Wailord decks. How many of these decks are playable now? 2? How many would be playable without gag/mag? At least 40%. Which is still like six times more then the number that are playable now.

And this is the biggest issue.

My son won 2 states, ended up going 12-2. And may gain a few points.

Also, playing off for 3rd and 4th is wrong when points are on the line.

That should be fixed.

it is fixed unless its still happining I got third at NM states and had asked about playing for 3rd/4th and I was told it dosent happen anymore since the points are at stake and some people stood to lose more than win

the worms?

the only deck that has anything near a favorable matchup with a good gatr list is GG. Vire doesnt have a chance trading ohkos with a more consistant setup deck that also has delcatty ex or other techs to finish it off, if you do manage to swap 4 vires for 4 gatrs

I wouldn't have a problem with it, even though i play a G&G deck. As long as POP allows us players to play one of them in a deck, i would do that.
i can think of a lot of great cards that would go wonderful with just Gardevoir or just Gallade.

Although PUI currently refuses to ban cards regardless of how over-used they become, a number of cards were banned under Wizards Of The Coast:

And it's oh so true.

Vire doesn't ever beat Hurricane unless the Hurricane is a rly bad build.

Hopefully Eevees/Magnezone X(and new promo Magnezone[if it gets to U.S]) Will finally achieve the diversity that this game is trying so hard to reach. I myself personally feel that no card should be banned. It will just cause more commotion on how the next card replacing it becomes broken. Simple thing I think that happens is that POP/PUI/PUSA/whoever makes these cards just don't realize how good the cards they're making are. Eventually at the pace we're going, we're going to have 200 HP basics with 500 HP stage 2s. But there is usually a card or 2 that dominates until something new is made to balance it out. Just wait until more dp-on sets are released. Having 1 or 2 bad seasons isn't going to make Pokemon explode. Or of course none of this may never happen and this game will end up in the same place as it's former self in 2000-2001. Seriously who thinks of insane cards that copy supporters out of opponents discards and another one that does insane amounts of damage for virtually no cost and the bad thing is that they both evolve out of the same line.
Seriously though, banning cards won't solve anything as something that couldn't stand a chance against it just gets to dominate everything else. Than eventually that card will be banned and so on.
All this talk about banning and insane powers/attacks reminds me of the mess that Yu-Gi-Oh is...
