Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Anatomy of a Fake Pokémon Card

I appreciate the thought, but we don't want to have complete galleries of fake versions of all the real cards. A few examples are fine to have, but making them into a complete scanned gallery would give them credence as a "real collectible".

Will do. Should i put them in "member fakes" or is there a better category?

Lol... I saw a guy with a fake dialga card, and the item said "adament orb" and it had a picture of a Enigma berry... Epic fail... And the attacks... Well, one didnt even do damage!!! xD

Hi there,
I have a question about a card I own. It is a Dark Dragonair from Team Rocket 33. Keep in mind that the following comparisons come from Bulbapedia, a site that I gather seems to be reputable.

I can't find any typos, the backing seems to be legit, everything on the face of the card matches with the comparison, no enlargments or anything of the sort. The problem is the "body", I guess you would say, of the card. The graphic and information rests on a silver body with a firework holographic that changes through a rainbow of colors when shifted. The "holographic" is not on the graphic, however, just the body. The graphic and text reside on top of it. However, I can't seem to find my card anywhere else online. My comparisons simply shows a silver body with the typical yellow border. Do I have a very rare card, or a very accurate fake?

On another note, I have a question about a tip. You elude to a text difference between fakes and legit cards. I notice a stretch of text on the fakes when I look at your comparison pictures. Is this accurate, or is there a difference I'm missing?

Thanks, and may the force be with you!

Poke-a-mon: Are you sure that you have the Team Rocket version?

That card was reprinted in Legendary Collection.
The set symbol is a medal instead of an "R".
The collector number is 38/110 instead of 33/82.

In fact....

Is this your card:

[gal=47178]Dark Dragonaire[/gal]

This is the Reverse holo / Alternate foil that they did for the Legendary Collection set.
The first set that they did it for, in fact.

Yes Mr. Magician. In fact, it is my card! I didn't see that version on Bulb, so I figured it was a fake. I've seen special versions of cards printed out before (pokemon and others) that had never been released at all. I called it the Team Rocket version only because it matched the graphic I have, allowing for another descriptor.

Any special importance of the card, or is it just another card in the set? By the by, you missed the question within the last paragraph of my post. Also, what are the symbols in the bottom-right corner next to the #/#? I see the common, uncommon, rare symbols on some, but entirely different symbols on others. Yet some have none at all. Those with the common-rare symbols have another symbol next to the length and weight bar.

That's the set symbol that I mentioned, in this case, it's a medal.

I can't answer your last question.
Not all fakes are identical.
Different people make them.

Okay, thanks. I was just wondering, because the post made it sound like there was a defining feature of the text.

Hmm, now I seem to be having a problem with a Mew. Not a holo, just regular.

50 Hp. Says "Basic" on that silver bar just below the graphic. Super Psywave is the only attack for one psychic and one colorless. No resistance, Weakness to Psy, retreat cost 1 colorless. "rare" card. The Set Symbol is a black circle with 3 circles on it, one on top, and one on each bottom end. The Graphic is Mew with a white glow, floating in the clouds with his tail curved around behind him in an "s".

The problem, however, is that it says 111/110 at the bottom, and I can't seem to find this card anywhere. I'm thinking it's a fake simply because of what seems to be a number error, but I could be wrong. Everything else seems okay.

Having cards that exceed the set number isn't a particularly new or novel concept. It happens almost every time there's a Secret Rare in the set.

Does the pokemon stamp rule hold true for Japanese boxes as well?

No. I don't know what kind of features they have on their packaging.

But beware, I've seen fake boxes that now have Pokeballs on the plastic!
They don't match up exactly right with the real plastic wrap, but unless you have a real box with you, you wouldn't notice the difference!

Bottom line, if someone is selling boxes/packs for way too little money, beware!

Dang. I remember getting these two starter packs for $.99/ea at a liquidation store, so I have no idea whether it's legit or not. :frown:

Lots of Chinese fake product make their way into the US through the buyers for the Dollar Store. We have people coming into league all the time with a binder full of fakes and they invariably shop there. It must be hard to prove in court, but its been going on a long time.

I had pokemon fake cards with golden foil thing but someone stole mine i had 146 trading cardsPosted with Mobile style...

Anybody know if these boxes are real/not? I think they may be, but am kinds suspicious.

The one that I'm most curious about is the DP one, as the packaging looks off to me, but I'm not sure so I thought I'd ask. Hope this was the right place to ask this.

They look legit to me. The regular DP one might be repackaged. But the other 4 at least look the part. (And I'm seriously thinking about putting in a bid for the Tri box, at that price...)

Yeah... Thats why I asked :) Thanks for your help. Yeah, we're interested in a couple of them. Not Tri though.
