Anyone got a counter to MewTwoEX?

Well we don't know what kind of cards are in Sandstorm. There could be some very nice draw cards. But I would love to play R/S on because people would try new ideas and not be able to sit back and ride the coaster with the same old strategies that were used along time ago. =)

Could Crystal Shard help out Mewtwo EX when facing Sneasel EX or Mightyena. I mean it could change its type to colorless, but would the resistance still be counted?

Hmm... well... here's an idea to slow down Mewtwo ex:

Pokémon Tower (Stadium Card)
If the effect of a Pokémon Power, attack, Energy card, or Trainer card would put a card in a discard pile into its owner's hand, that card stays in that discard pile instead.
(Although, I think Wizards could've worded it nicer, you get the point)

With this in effect, Mewtwo ex's Energy Absorption is useless. Making Mewtwo ex useless until turn three or later.

Just an idea.

Oops. Right. My mistake. Forget what I said.

Of course. I should've known better. I mean, I've played Mewtwo ex myself. Must've been dazed and confused at the time I thought of that.

Actually, it's hard to say who would win in the battle of Sneasel vs. Mewtwo. It all depends on what Trainers are used on Mewtwo EX. If Mewtwo EX gets a Magnifier (I have to wonder why nobody plays Magnifier), Sneasel is dead.

Tower does not work, the energies go to Mewtwo EX, not the owner's hand

I still think Murkrow is a nice counter to this card - resistance, and forces the poor thing to stay active. 30 damage is easy enough to deal with all of the healing cards available.

I always play 2 murkrow in my sneasel decks...Nasty surprises, esp for those that depend on legendary dogs to protect their bench....count gusts, then lock and d'oh

The really big Egg works at slowing down Mewtwo EX too....30 per turn, on a 120 HP pokemon, not a problem....

My ideas, not too overpowered, but you ALWAYS have to be aware of it. In limited, I think Lapras is more overpowered, auto confusion is no fun to deal with with the new rules

Three words that would stop Mewtwo EX for a bit, and is actually play-around-able:

Reprint Mr Mime. :D

You are kidding, right?

Part of the problem is that psychic resistance (in fact, resistance in general) is on the decline. That's what made things difficult for MP Mewtwo. Darkness is rather difficult to tech into a deck since it requires Darkness energy.

I was mostly joking about the Mr Mime. However, that power that stops >20 damage from hurting it would be quite annoying if you didn't have an immediate way to work around it. It wouldn't be an answer to Mewtwo EX by any means, but it would be a fun card to see reprinted.

Couldn't the Hariyama be used where it does 80 to an ex pokemon? I mean you can power it up on the bench, bring it out using your 1 retreat, then kill mewtwoex with only maybe the loss of your damage sponge. Still, though, even losing 1 prize for 2 isn't that bad of a deal.

All we and good except it won't KO Mewtwo EX and being weak to psychic itself Hariyama is gonna get creamed.

Add to that Scoop Up, Focus Band, Gold Berry and you're gonna have a fairly healthy M2EX and a KO'd Hariyama!

I like the Magnifier idea though but still think M2EX has Sneasel EX in two turns anyhow with Strength Charm.

Add in ER(2) and Maybe even SER(2) and you got real nice sponge that is fast and a real pain in the neck.

Well off the top of my head (brainstorming style) in an Unlimited Deck. Slap a Focus on a Neo Genesis Sneasel using a Snigllytuff deck and Mewtwo EX will die. And then for backup you got Jungle Wiggly.

Modified. Well since I haven't played a League since San Diego. I really have no idea.

If Nintendo sets up some Leagues! I'll be happy.

Edited: PLease do not use abbreviations for words not allowed.

All you need to counter 100 HP on a Psychic-weak Pokemon is something doing more than 50 Psychic damage, or 100 damage by any other type, like Charizard, Dragonites, Quagsire... etc.

Easier said than done. Most attacks that do enough damage to beat Mewtwo EX require at least one evolution-- by which time they may no longer exist, since Psyburn can be done turn 2. A good Psychic Resistance (harder and harder to come by in new sets) could help, unless Resistance Gym (Unlimited) or Magnifier (Unlimited or Modified) comes into play.

If only Resistance Gym and/or Magnifier were re-released in Sandstorm, then players that play stuff other than Mewtwo ex might actually stand a chance in tournament play this fall.
