Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Are Promo cards and Alternate Art Cards going away?

I have heard that at least at one time Ultra-Pro released either Toploaders, binder pages or both for A5 cards (the standard Jumbo size). Never able to find any though.

I also have some A4 binder pages that hold 4 cards each, which are perfect for the Jumbo Box-toppers from Legendary Collection and the e-series.

I've had those top loaders before, but they were so flimsy (due to their size I suppose) they were hardly worth keeping the card in in the first place so I don't consider them good protection. I've never seen binder pages for the standard Jumbos, but I was able to order some for the jumbo box topper size.

I have one for an autographed sport photo, and it's a little bit flimsy for it's size, but it's better than the alternative of nothing.
But most sport shops worth their salt carry the jumbo top loaders for posters and pictures. I'm pretty sure they also carry soft sleeves as well as the harder ones.

The psychic Metagross definitely has the alternate holo pattern like the other promo's, but it is very hard to see. Tilting the card in a specific way in bright light shows the pattern. I have scans of both cards on my website too, and you can see some difference in the scans, but it is hard to spot.

The normal one from the set: http://www.pokemon-paradijs.com/ruilkaarten/ruilkaart.php?serie=hs-unleashed&image=04.jpg

I have heard that before and I have tilted and tilted the ones in the stores and I can not find any Rotom holo pattern on them. You have got to wonder, if you have to go to such great lengths to determine if a card is an Alt holo or not... should it really count as an alt holo in the first place? I know the one I purchased is not a unique holo and now it is in a plaque given to me by a fellow League member and awarded to me in the middle of the Mukilteo City Championship that I was hosting to warn everyone to "Look" before you purchase

If the difference is so insignificant, I don’t think its worth giving it a spot in my collection binder.

Very good point!

Jumbos would be much more sought after if there were good ways to protect them. As of now I don't know of any soft sleeve, hard case, or binder page that'll accommodate them.

The 3d foils they've been releasing are great though!

Bah, others have beaten me to it, but there are definitely top loaders for jumbo-sized cards

I really don't think so. There's new promos on the way- HGSS24 Hitmonchan and HGSS Hitmonlee. And we just got Porygon and Porygon2 with with the last set. They don't seem to be cranking them out as hard and heavy, but that could just be a temporary shift. I'm sure we'll have plenty come Black and White.

My emphasis. Isn't this the bottom line really? Seems natural to wind down at the end of one era to gear up for another.

(What would be better is if the current promos completely stopped and promos were released properly, in interesting ways, as in Japan. But let's not go there)

As you have been told on many many occasions, not all of them had the Rotom holo due to a packaging error.

And I have a one that is Rotom holo, you don't need to tilt them that much to see the holo, simply do it need a light source, and it's easily visible.

And yes, of course it should count as an alternate holo, because it is! My POP2 holo Suicune needs to be tilted a bit to see the holo. Do I claim that POP2 Suicune was never holo? No, of course I don't, that would be ridiculous.

If you don't believe it deserves a spot in the binder, then that is up to you. Personally, I like variants, and I like this holo style, which is why I went to the trouble of asking around to get a one that was Rotom-holo.

I wish our promos were as rare as Japan's. I wish there were more cards you could only get by winning a tournament etc.

Well there are allways the No 1-3 trainer cards at Worlds. Thoes are next to impossible to collect as their are only 3 of each available each year. Even if someone was to collect all of one year, I would imagine it would be next to impossible to get ones for any other year. I beleive that most of the winners would never ever sell them.

Most winners are willing to sell.
Dave Persin has all 3 cards from 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010. He is missing the Number 2 from 2007 and the Number 1 from 2004.

But other than that he has them all.

And the idea of giving away a card for winning a tournament is a nice idea in theory. However if this happens enough, eventually one card will be released like this that is game changing, either purposefully or because it's potential wasn't realised. This would then start fetching huge prices, and the amount of hatemail and whining that would spring from it just wouldn't be worth it.

Yeah, look what happened in YGO when they released cards like Cyber-Stein and CCV as SJC winner promos.

$5000+ for a card that gave you a huge advantage if you happened to own it.

Or like the Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum Trainer cards that were released for (I believe) Battle Road prizes in Japan. And, no, BRs over there are far more rare and far tougher to win than those over here.

(The DPPt Trainers are Azelf for Pokemon, TSS, and Energy, one for each type of card)

Yeah, YGO is the classic example of how not to do it... I would have a serious issue if that happened in Pokémon. Obviously as a serious collector I'm resigned to the fact trophy cards go for insane sums.

Does Persin have the VS cards too? If so, he's soooooooooo close to a complete collection. Sell him the last cards, winners! Sell sell sell!

Where is your information source that there was a packaging error on the Psychc Metagross? People have claimed that but there as far as I know has been no offical statement verifing that form Pokemon. So it is just an assumption as far as anyone can tell. I am not saying that you do not have a real Alt holo of the metagross, it is just as far as I am aware none of them exist in retial outlest in Westen weashington state. So as of now I have never seen one.

I think that, since Call of Legends is a filler set that doesn't exist in Japan, they merely ran out of cards to make into promos. -.-

Yes, it is an assumption, but if boxes were meant to contain a Rotom holo Metagross, and some of them contained regular holo Metagross' then that's a packaging error.

The only other explanation would be that Pokemon higher ups deliberately released some of the boxes with the wrong holo, which I can't see them doing.

....Have they ever had announcements regarding mistakes? I don't recall one about the Dialga G Lv. X error, and quite a few of those have been found. I don't recall one regarding tins that were packaged upside down, and there have been a few of those. I don't recall one about the CoL Phanpy, and there are LOTS of those. Or how about the TR Psyduck/Weepinbell, that to my knowledge they never fixed? Or the random light-backed cards?

We don't need someone to tell us there's a mistake.

I'm talking about cards you can actually use.

As I said above:

Any playable cards that are released for winning a tournament are just going to end up upsetting both players and collectors.

They did that once. I think it was a Stadium that limited the Bench, though I might be misremembering. There was quite a bit of discussion about that card, from what I remember. The only card they've done since is Victory Medal, which is a borderline card in most decks right now.

There are still cards that have unique illustrations. Maybe not as many as in the past but if you check out "unnumbered promotional cards" on bulbapedia along with the mysterious pearl/diamond wonder platinum, master key and some of the japanese only jumbos listed under dp. dpt, lp. bw promos.

Also I am almost 100% certain persin does not have the english vs cards. I know one person who does but wants a lot of money for them,

And Persin is not the average collector in fact is the top english collector. Referencing him as having all the pika trophies from those years makes it seem as if it is easy to obtain them. For most people, even if the cards are on the market, the prices are unfriendly, but deservingly so. All trophy cards deserve their high prices
