This is a random little topic that, I'm sure, will generate a variety of answers.

Is there a thin line between OVERpreparing for FALL BRs and just staying sharp for FallBRs?

With NATS gone, only a handful of our Pokemon Playing community will be actively preparing for any tournaments (see Worlds).

Now, we're in the grey zone between NATS and Fall BRs.

I've noticed alot of people have tossed out their DP - GE cards, taken another look at what they have left and have started generating some MD-on deck ideas.

Others have already switched out their current decks and converted them to MD-on.

My problem is, I know that the new "UNDAUNTED" ( ) set has the potential to affect my deck choice for FALL BRs; anything I work on now may be an absolute waste of time.
But, what if the set doesn't really have anything that useful and I could've benefited w/ just building something MD-UL early?

Well, it IS summer time and you need to enjoy that, so you can't just sit around all summer long playtesting.. can you?

Anyway, from time to time, I pass by the cards and think "eh, It's probably better if I don't touch those until Undaunted comes out.

What are your experiences with deckbuilding in the summer?

They can just work on a trainer engine for stage 2 decks, or convert their Sablock/Luxchomp to MD-on.

The post-Nats lull was part of the reason that WinkWinkNudgeNudge came up with Dirty Decks Done Dirt Cheap last summer. It was tremendous fun for those of who developed the concept and played in the actual tournaments. It was also invaluable in helping us learn how to help the kids at league improve their decks without using a lot of costly cards.

So maybe coming up with a deckbuilding challenge would help beat the doldrums.

(Not sure if we're doing DDDDC again this summer, by the way)

What about RA's own Theme Deck Challenge (or whatever it was called) from last year?

As for me, I usually take this time to step back from playing for a while, collect my thoughts, and finish my paperwork for everything else. I'll help my Leaguers going to Worlds (two this year ^_^), but otherwise I'll pretty much ignore my cards until after the next set. I've still got ideas floating around in this oversized noggin, but I won't build anything until the next set drops.

I havent decided on how I feel about this. I have built some decks for the next format but who knows whats going to happen with the new set. Im also trying to prepare for worlds but I have my deck picked out and still want to stay active in playing so I dont lose focus. You also dont want to overplay because then youll get bored and not want to play.
I think this would be a great time for a deck building contest!

I have two decks for next season (my Masquerade deck I've been running for, like, forever, just edited and made MD-on) and a new one, focusing on Luxray AR.

But in the summer, I get much more time to focus on deckbuilding, and more time to test my decks against my friends who also play.

I usually look at scans to see what we can possibly get and what would work the best for an engine in the next format. Also, most people I know up in NE are real lax about battle roads, we are all trying to find some deck that works for us, most of us won't even have a final deck until the night before. In my case in '08, I didn't even have a final list till the last BR I went to. Though sometimes you have to go with what is given to you. I thought I was playing TLC when LA came out. I end up seeing that I have the cards for BellaPlume and play that.

There's always the idea of a theme deck tournament. Each player has to enter with an unaltered theme deck of their choice. Could be some fun, eh?

IMO it's going to be a pretty lax rotation. With a majority of the cards being rotated being pretty much useless in the meta-game today I feel like the best decks of next format are pretty easy to predict.

Perfecting the MD-On Supporter/Energy Line is what's going to be key or finding the new best engine for decks to set-up. We've got multiple sets before Cities though so no need to prepare yet( My bet is we see a pokemon support line(ex: pidgeot, claydol) in the new JPN set)

Claydol, night maintenance, dusknoir, mime, roseannes, unown g, moonlight, tsg, felicities.....
Anyways, i try and test my decks, and dont worry about them that much.

Im pretty focussed still because of worlds. Even after the rotation im pretty sure im going to go with sablelock. I will probably throw out all the DP-GE cards right after worlds.

You could take a break from Pokemon, or start seeing how the rotation impacts the meta (granted without the data point of Worlds, which always swings things, and the next set). Really, just take a break. It's not like you'll get ridiculously bad if you take July off.

I can't stand seeing so many people posting MD-on decklists, playing MD-on, etc. It's not an entirely big deal, but (as I've written in a fairly popular article), I don't think there's any point in trying that now. Of course, don't let me stand in your way if you wanna play that format, but don't pretend that you're being super competitive when....

- You don't know what the next set consists of.
- There's ANOTHER set before the important tournaments (Cities) start coming.
- Worlds, often the most defining tournament of the format, hasn't happened yet.

People can do what they want, but I have to be a little giddy that I got the last laugh when everyone was testing PT-on months ago.

Wouldn't it be awesome to go for a new online tournament?
like the one in 2009, it would be a lot of fun to play in.

I will do a mix between helping people test for worlds and grinders and work on MD-on decks. Even for Battle Roads I like to have the best deck I can. MD-on will be a big change so I won't test like crazy, but probably once a week. As for summer time, Pokemon is something I enjoy enough to give up some time to succeed.

I like to convert my decks for league to kinda test in case there is nothing in undaunted, although Vileplume will be in the set so yes, the format will change greatly.

What I like to do is arrange all my techs in a binder, and look for other cards that haven't been hit by the rotation that can possibly be techs vs vileplume, along with writing down other deck ideas that I think could work for Undaunted.
