Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

BeNeLux Cup [update!]

Now that I won a Belgium CC, can I opt to play for Belgium too? I mean, c'mon, we Dutchies should have at least some resistance and good games right?
(obv j/k)

Anyways, a little more serious again, thx for the congrats Michel (and, again, that game  ) and congrats to you and Laetitia too for qualifying  I hope some new info is posted soon (for me in particular whether there is a need for judges..)

At CC Leiden we were told the date and location are; *insert drums*

Tilburg
22 April

(please correct me if I am wrong)
btw, how is the belgian team? I know we got at least 16 people in each category, but if that rumor is true (1 invite for belgian CC's only)...

I read on the Belgian LD's website that they get invites for the T4 players at their Regionals? That would be cool, if that was the case. Then it's not gonna be a Dutch Nationals with some Begians on the side ^^

I got email from Jan Willem today (Dutch OP manager) and he said it's gonna be April 22nd in Dongen? I suppose that's close to Tilburg, but apparently it's not got a train station >< He also said to keep an eye on the PS-Games website for details.

Qualification in Belgium is winners from CC's and Top 4 from regionals. Since there are 4 CC's and 3 Regionals that's 16 per group - same as in the Netherlands.

April 22nd is confirmed (feel free to write that down  ), location will be announced officially as soon as possible.

Jann, sorry but are you sure about that?

It seems that out of the sky our 15+ Nationals Champion got an invite without qualifying the way others did. Why? That's not really fair to all others who had to play for it.

And it's very weird she is saying she knew that from the start while the other 2 Nationals Champions didn't hear a word about it.

I think it should be as announced 16 players of each agegroup of each country.
Dutch qualifyng system, 4 CC's and top 4 of those are playing the Benelux Cup. Total of 16 players and not 17.
Not qualified NO invite.

Yeah sure, out of the sky... It's just something small that can be blown up like xxxx.

It's just a small thing that was 'forgotten' to tell the new OP Manager. And we (me as well as the OP Manager) expected that all last years National Champions would qualify without problems (as did the 10- and 11-14 champion) but for the 15+ not. So indeed that leaves us with 17 qualified and 1 has to drop. But why complaining about this, while it's not your problem at all. If no one drops (because off illness, holidays or whatever) than we (me, the OP Manager and last years 15+ Champion) will have a problem and it will most probably result in dropping the last added person (and that's last year's champion).

So just to be short... It's a little misunderstanding caused by the change of OP Manager.

My original proposal for handing out the invites was quite different. Top 4 from 44 CC's auto qualify, last year's Champion qualifies, remaining invites manually handed out to 5th, 6th (and so on) finishers of the 4 CC's. But once again, because of the change of OP Manager some things got messed up a little bit.

Don't try to bend the righteous Martin ;) cause the right people will never give in to those wickedly foul and stupidious people who make and believe lies and treachery and errh..

Oh yeah, blablabla :D

Just one question ... what's a National champion ?
The player who won the National, or the first national player ranked at the event ?

My daughter was 1st Belgian player at the Belgian National and won the National in Utrecht in 11-14.
Now she's in 15+ ... and qualified at the CC in Ekeren.

To solve all the problems, she could represent Luxemburg

And Aalsmeer should become a separate country too...

That would be a great idea, we have players, a location and as finishing touch our own OP Manager.
In no time we would be twice as big as our whole Nations OP.
Make my day.

Oeps forgot we already have the largest playersbase.

Hey! We're expecting players from Luxemburg this year, don't make it even more confusing then it already is Michel :D

In all seriousness, Erik and I had talked about this beforehand, but we assumed National Champs (title based on nationality, not final standing) would be able to qualify themselves, so we didn't give any automatic invites.
With the change at PS-Games no "what if" scenario was discussed however, hence the confusion now.
I don't see any problems with the way Martin proposes, but I'll contact Ps-Games and double check some things to avoid problems later on :)

Thanks Jann for this answer, it's what I expected.

Meaby all agegroups should have a waiting list player because of this and not only 15+.
That sounds more equal to me.

Belgian invitations will be leaving the office today or tomorrow, players should receive these by mail friday or early next week. If you haven't received your mail by next week tuesday afternoon, feel free to contact me at jann(at)intrafin(dot)be or 02/722.99.94 during office hours.

More details concerning the tournament can be found here http://www.intrafin.be/forum/viewtopic.php?p=88#88

I understand both countries will get a Top 4 based on the highest swiss results and those will be playing against eachother in single elimination.

I have some questions about that;

Q1;
How do we decide which country wins the Benelux cup?
For example, the belgians can win every single round of swiss, and then their top 4 loses to the dutch top 4. In that scenario, would the dutch be the winning country?

Q2;
How do you make the top 8 pairings?

Winning country is decided on the amount of age groups won. If the Dutch players win all age groups, they win the Tournament, if the Belgians win the 11-14 and 15+ and the Dutch win the 10-, Belgium wins.

For the record, Pierre Zagala from Luxemburg counts as Belgian for determining the winning country, since he takes up one of the Belgian slots ;)

Play-Off pairing will be as if everyone except those top players dropped from the tournament. Ie nr 1 vs nr 8 in the same bracket as nr 4 vs nr 5

Ok, same scenario*, do the dutch win the 15+ age category?

*in 15+, the belgians can win every single round of swiss, and then their top 4 loses to the dutch top 4. In that scenario, would the dutch be the winning country?

Thanks,

Kevin

That is correct, the Swiss part only matters to select the top players per country - hence the 2 out of 3 instead of single game matches. Since there are 3 age groups and no ties in the finals we should always have a clear winner.

Keep in mind that it's not guaranteed to be a Top 8, we will be using TOM and following the Top cut it suggests based on attendance.

So the swiss rounds will/can be sanctioned, and the top (single elemination) not?

Or is the whole tournament unsanctioned?

Lia, not if they are dropping every non-top 4 of the country players before top cut is made (but after last round is finished). Afaik that should be possible.
