Hey guys!
I want to know what you guys think is the best art on a Pokemon card you've ever seen.
And I also want to know the worst.
As far as I know, you cant link to other websites because of the rules (correct me if Im wrong) but, I want you to say the name of the Pokemon and then the set. So anyone whos looking at the thread can look it up. Also, lets try not to say the same cards over and over again.

So go ahead and reply with what you think is the BEST art and the WORST art.
And remember to put why you like/dislike the art
Lets see where this goes..

to keep this from being locked as a poll, make sure you give REASONS why you admire the art on card(s) you list.

also, card images can be linked from the 'gym's own gallery...see the green smergle in the header at the top of the page.

the card with the most amazing art imho is lugia legend. i just love the fierce/demented expression on lugia's face, and the way it looks like it's lunging right out of the card/water at you...

My favorite art would have to be Ninetales Ex from Hidden Legends. The glowing eyes in the background foil really do it for me. http://pokegym.net/gallery/showimage.php?i=45254&c=61
The worst art? Every single card in this style: http://pokegym.net/gallery/showimage.php?i=17970&c=94
Its just...ew. No. That also goes for those little figurine things put in a patch of grass and such by the way. I'm also not a fan of Sugimori Stock Art with random background - Sugimori can do better, and particulary the backgrounds can be better.

I personally think Viridian City Gym (http://pokegym.net/gallery/showimage.php?i=46629&catid=searchresults&searchid=8276) is some of the worst art I've ever seen. I know they werent that great at 3D art back then, so they really shouldnt have tried Its just so blocky and gross looking. But, all the other 'gym cards' actually look nice and they have 3D art. So, it just looks like they didnt try on Viridian Gym in comparision to all the other gyms.

for the best, I'd have to agree with Pokemom on the Lugia Legend but besides that I really like Gengar SF. (http://pokegym.net/gallery/showimage.php?i=41029&catid=searchresults&searchid=8282) It looks really cool like its going to go out and attack something. Its just all around a good looking card.

I absolutely hate the Pokemon which look like plastic models. I have a few favourites, one of my best is the Charmander 98 from Expedition.

Yeah, I hate the plastic models too.

HS DCE is pretty sweet. Dusknoir X looks like he's reaching out to grab you...

Mewtwo X is pretty cool too. And most of the Legends are epic.

I have a few favorites. First and foremost, the Zapdos from Aquapolis, as seen in my avatar. I have a Japanese holofoil of it in my collection, where the entire picture on the card is shiny, and it looks amazing. The light/dark contrast is better than just about any other card I can think of. Add all that to the fact that I collect an obscene amount of Zapdos cards, and you can understand why it's a favorite of mine.

Other cards with art that I love include Crystal Kabutops, Rocket's Training Gym, Shining Tyranitar, Rayquaza EX from Deoxys, Team Aqua's Manectric, Magnezone Prime, and the COL Ninetales reprint.

Most all of the Pokemon C have amazing art, Spiritomb C being one of my favorites. All Gengar art looks good as well.

My all-time favorite is probably Feraligatr CL. It looks incredible.

Tangela CL also looks awesome. (No art on Pokegym. We need to get some scans.)

Both Roast Reveal Ninetales look good too.

Also, I like the clay figures, as long as they're supposed to be of cute Pokemon.

As for my least favorite, It'd probably be Eevee and Tyrogue from CL. They look bad.

The worst?

Easy, anything done by Ken Sugimori. Remember DP anyone?

Ken Sugimori, along with Satoshi Tajiri is Pokemon. He's the Head Art Director for Pokemon, and designed 90% of the Pokemon we know today. He draws the official art, then some random person takes a background and pastes Ken's stuff on it.

That doesn't mean his art is good. It's just concept art, and horrifically boring and bland. The thread is about the worst art on the cards. The art work of his that is on the cards. It doesn't matter who puts it on, because it's HIS art. Therefore, the art work of his that is used on the cards, is the worst.

Oh, I didn't know you were actually complaining about Ken's art. You're entitled to your opinion, but I think you're in the minority. I personally think his stuff is great.

Can I say every single card from Skyridge? Four of my favorites include Medicham from Power Keepers, Magnaton from Aquapolis, Retro Energy and, Crobat from Skyridge. Retro is an really complex looking card and Magnaton is just so in-your-face. I love the gothic look of the entire picture on Medicham, even the trees.

Worst art ever. Bill is just such an ugly dude.

The Legend Pokemon are, without a doubt, some of the best examples of artwork on the cards. The artists should draw that way more often. It gives the game a more impressive feel.

Did SD PokeMom really just say she likes the Lugia's "demented" expression?

I'll go with DarthPika on this one. Ken Sugimori's art, as DarthPika put it, is concept art, plain and simple. It's the base of what the pokemon looks like. No one should expect to be impressed by it. But in this thread, asking about the best and worst, the connotation is what artwork impressed us the most and what artwork was the least impressive. Diverging from DarthPika's opinion though, I don't think that singles it out for being the best or worst, but it definitely falls into the "less impressive" category.

Drawing from SD Pokemon's opinion about Lugia LEGEND, Emerald set had quite a few "fierce" looking pokemon, including Spoink (http://pokegym.net/gallery/showimage.php?i=533&c=12) and Grumpig (http://pokegym.net/gallery/showimage.php?i=496&c=12). Trainers from Unseen Forces, like Curse Powder (http://pokegym.net/gallery/showimage.php?i=1872&c=41) and Solid Rage (http://pokegym.net/gallery/showimage.php?i=1884&c=41), also have that feel to them.

The E-sets, particularly Aquapolis and Skyridge, have always been synonymous with great artwork to me because of the theme that runs through them and how the pokemon are incorporated with the background. The Donphan (http://pokegym.net/gallery/showimage.php?i=47870&c=107) is a nice example. See how you can see the damage it is causing? It's really a part of the image instead of just placed there. And then there is Umbreon (http://pokegym.net/gallery/showimage.php?i=47928&c=107), Quagsire (http://pokegym.net/gallery/showimage.php?i=47908&c=107), and Tyranitar (http://pokegym.net/gallery/showimage.php?i=47926&c=107), all from Aquapolis, as well a Ariados from UF (http://pokegym.net/gallery/showimage.php?i=1297&c=41). When such detail is given to the background as well as the Pokemon, it makes the pokemon look less cartoonish and more real or professional, as if someone took a camera and got a picture of the pokemon.

I also like Yanma from Neo Discovery (http://pokegym.net/gallery/showimage.php?i=46839&c=112). Flareon from Sandstorm strikes me as well done (http://pokegym.net/gallery/showimage.php?i=47759&c=104).

And then there's Gardevoir from SW (http://pokegym.net/gallery/showimage.php?i=31855&c=162) and Gardevoir ex from Sandstorm (http://pokegym.net/gallery/showimage.php?i=47853&c=104) and Dragon Frontiers (http://pokegym.net/gallery/showimage.php?i=18270&c=126). Kind of hard to mess up a picture of a Gardevoir
