Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Black & White-Emerging Powers Expansion Announced

(Thanks to Skitty for this)

I now strongly believe that the tins (Serperior, Emboar, and Samurott) contain cards from Emerging Powers. Ever since Beartic was revealed to be #30, I've been puzzled with how they could pull that off. No matter how hard I looked, I could only find 21 cards that could go before it.

HOWEVER.

If you put in the three starter lines, that bumps it up to 30 cards before Beartic, with a lot of multiples. It'd be easy enough to drop one of the multiples for a promo later, hitting our #30. :D

For the record, here's what my list looks like now:

But didn't the Pansage card from Beginning Set have the number 1/98? There was a prototype picture of the Pansage with a blister and it looked like that was the number. But the picture has been seemingly removed from the Bulbapedia article...

That, and I think it would be overkill to have so many starter variations. If the ones in the tin are new, they'll probably be stand-alone promos.

I don't know, it still could be possible. Maybe the Pansage wasn't really 1/98? I guess we'll just have to wait and see... I just wish Emerging Powers was coming out earlier than August 31, especially since BW came out earlier than usual. :/

AyameHikaru, cards of the three Legendaries were revealed today, and Virizion is 17/98. So it seems like whichever new English-exclusive cards we get will be Grass ones. Virizion (#17) to Beartic (#30) still means that there will probably be one or two more English-exclusive cards, and I'm guessing they'll be Fire because otherwise there's only four Fire cards in the entire set.

Some of these gaps are VERY interesting... take Terrakion #63 and Cobalion #77. In between those I only have:
Landorus (Confirmed)
Zorua (Confirmed)
Zorua
Zoroark (Confirmed)
Zoroark
Ferroseed
Ferroseed
Ferrothorn
Klink
Klang

Which means we're missing three in that gap. Hmm... a three line in dark or steel... couldn't POSSIBLY be Hydreigon. XD Curiouser and curiouser. Then between Cobalion #77 and the next revealed card (Braviary #88) we've got
Lillipup
Audino
Minccino
Minccino
Druddigon
Rufflet (Confirmed)
Rufflet

Which means we're minus three in that relatively small gap. Guess what threesie Normal-type line fits snugly in that gap? Haxorus. This pretty much confirms we're getting quite a bit of Red Collection, too.

So my list right now looks like this:

Pansage
Simisage
Sewaddle
Sewaddle
Swadloon
Swadloon
Leavanny
Cottonee

Cottonee
Whimsicott
17. Virizion (Missing 5.)
Pansear
Simisear
Darumaka
Darmanitan

Panpour
Simipour
Basculin
Basculin
Cubchoo
Cubchoo
30. Beartic (Missing 2. My guess would be Larvesta & Volcarona from Red Collection.)
Emolga
Emolga
Joltik
Galvantula

Thundurus

Venipede
Whirlipede
Scolipede

Sigilyph

That's what the list is for now. Missing 5 from the Grass-types is a hard number to match. I THINK what will happen <speculation> is that we'll get Shelmet, Karrablast, Accelgor, and then either the Amoonguss or Crustle line from Red Collection. In order to fit in Excavelier, though, something off my list has got to go. I think it'll be the promo Zoroark. That promo was an event promo, and it's got Snarl, which hasn't been released outside Japan yet. So us getting it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. BUT, if you drop it, it leaves room for Excavalier. :)</speculation> On the whole, very interesting revelations. Looks like we won't get near as many English-exclusive cards as i though we would.

The thing about Red Collection is that we also have that "over 25 new Unova Pokemon" statement from Emerging Powers' press release that implies 25-29 new ones. And that limits what we could get from Red Collection, since we already have around 25 new Unova Pokemon (22 from BW, Beginning Set, et al; potentially Gigalith; and Virizion/Terrakion/Cobalion) from just the stuff that's left pre-Red.

And my list has 36 'new' Pokemon. :/ That is a bit of a problem. Ah, well. We'll just have to wait for another number or two to figure more out. :)

There haven't been any indication of any Red Collection cards in this set, so I honestly don't expect to see any (it's a pretty small edition). I also don't really expect them to completely blow through through all of their promos in a single set.

I think it's more likely that this set will just be the rest of BW, the Battle Strength cards, and the rest new (with a few promos thrown in).
