Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

California States - Longbeach

^not a bad idea, but the main player base is coming from socal.
^^The queen mary is a great place for a tourny, cool hotel and the room itself is hugenormous

Damn, thats a long way. I'm checking it out for Sac., 6 1/2 hours with clear roads. Has ever been more central in the state like Fresno, or a different city like San Jose or Frisco? I know that Nor Cal regionals are in San Jose (Sunnyvale) but it seems like a tourny this significant should be in a central area in the state. Even for players from Reno and Vegas it would be fairly easy.
We may be in the middle, but it seems not many big things come here...

But hey, in about 10 years, if that high-speed rail comes through, it won't matter :p

OH my gosh, That's close to me!
But I JUST started collecting, I dunno if I could get my deck up to sub par in time

Sure you could. When I started, I got beat about 3/4 of the matches I played. After getting beat a lot and seeing what the better players play and how they play, you'll get better and better and build better decks. I'd just go for the experience.

I agree, I dunno about staying in a hotel thought because I could just wake up early and drive.

Will there be alot of stuff handed out as promos? If so what kind of stuff?

If you live close, I'd just get there early and leave late.

And for promos, maybe the Gabite with the promo stitch work? I have no idea. I'm also not sure if they're doing random goodness, I hope so tho :thumb:

Its best to PM me, Im not on aim right now

And matches? Hmm....maybe 7 Swiss, Top 32 or so? maybe like 12? Not too sure, don't remember last years that well.

^^ because of STALLgon :)

no we have breaks at ittakes some time creating/posting the parirings and for everybody to go to their matches and start setting up, and then each match takes 40 min some more so 14 hours is roughly right

It should be 8 rounds of swiss with a top 16 cut, but we'll play whatever it is karl feels like running. (masters)

Not sure how many rounds but....

There is only going to be a TOP 8. Registration starts at 8:30 and tourny starts at 10. They are also having side tournys. They will have $25 draft tournys and $5 small tournys. I dont know if they did that last year, but I think its a great idea. Im going with 6 friends so if I happen to lose two matches early on I can jus drop and still play in some competitive tournys for $5. I've never dropped from a tourny cuz I thought of it as bad sportsmanship, but playing 6hrs of a tourny that you know you will have nothing to gain from (I have no interest in my rating) is not as fun as playing a 8-10 person tourny where top 4 gets prizes. Plus from what I hear this is a long tourny so by players dropping out, it could help cut some time between matches. Here is the side tourny info I found:

Booster drafts will be offered throughout the day and will consist of single-elimination rounds—$25 entry fee; prizes = 5 boosters for 1st, 3 boosters for 2nd, and 2 boosters for 3rd-4th.

Constructed tournaments will be available and will consist of single-elimination rounds—$5 entry fee; prizes = 5 boosters for 1st, 3 boosters for 2nd, and 2 boosters for 3rd-4th.

Team side events will be offered as interest warrants. Pricing and prizes presented onsite.

Hm...thats quite interesting. Something for you to do even when you get dropped. That means the friends im going with, we have something to do if we were to lose.

There is no way to be sure of that top 8. Last year it was top 16 and the ptegames website is usually just a cut and paste of an older tournament structure
