IMO worlds needs to go back as being the best of the best rather than trying to get players from every corner of the world.

Just curious but which Worlds are you referring to as being "the best of the best"?
Playing GAME doesn't really bring up the best of the best, it brings up the luckiest of the luckiest.
As for "worlds not supposed to be the best 64, but rather to have the most international field ever established."

No it's about the have the BEST international field, if not all nations are present it doesn't deserve the title WORLDS tournament. Last time I looked the World did not end as soon as you pass the North American borders.
I
What is "international flavour", if many Europeans play the same deck as North Americans? Is it funny to laugh at their accents or something?

You must be kidding, it's the other way around, most Americans play the same deck as Europeans.

dead wrong
id say 90% of all archetypes are invented in america, and catch on in europe
we invent the decks, you pick them up and either work on improving them, or create a spin off

seriously, who were the canadians in worlds?

LOL your statement is as wrong as mine.
and for me archetypes means the same as obvious combi's.

Players just want the easy invites. They want ALL their friends including their grandma to get an invite to Worlds and go donk some europeans. How fun Worlds is when it's 75% US and 25% the rest of the world. Oh, it's a lot of fun...to the US players! BWAHAHAHAHA

I'm offended, sir :(

This year Worlds was great.

16 US players is the max, nuff said. :)

You sir. Just won the thread.

Prime - Who in this thread has said they want to return to the 75-25 balance of before (which actually never existed, US has never had more than ~55%)

People who advocate more invites for X generally don't care about what happens to other areas. Notice how when I asked if anyone had a hypothetical problem with 2.5x invites for everyone next year, NO ONE had a problem with that.

Quit acting like every US player (besides you) wants things that way. They don't.

GrandmaJoner.

For people say worlds has an "international flavour,"...well, thats fantastic. personally i think it's more important to have a "better player flavour."

As Lia said, then it isn't the WORLD Championship, but the US Championship, which is called the US National Championship..

i cant even waste my time here anymore; you guys just dont get it, probably because you have never really had much tournament success yourself

the last thing i'll say is I believe worlds should be a gathering of the best players rather than a meeting place or a social event.

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

and by the way you just admitted that the US championship has the best players;/

GrandmaJoner, that's how you feel. But the people that run this game disagree and prefer to keep Worlds a different kind of tournament. There's not much anyone can do about it.

I don't see how worlds wasn't a gathering of the best players this year. In fact, seems like there were far less 'random faces/decks' in worlds than usual. Having only 6 rounds increases the luck factor, but there'll always be a luck factor to whine about so deal with it. IMO this worlds structure is better than the previous ones. Maybe more people will agree when the USA wins some more at Worlds.

if worlds is a social gathering then usnats should carry the 7.5k scholarship, and the winners set that can be sold for thousands more, as well as plane tickets to next years event.

Well put, Dark Weedle. I guess that's why they upped the $ for first place back in '06.

However, they would never put the focus on US Nationals for one reason: they would then blatantly be admitting that something less than the championship of the ENTIRE WORLD is a higher caliber event.

Speaking of which...that's an interesting thought: is US Nationals worth as much or more than Worlds? Technically it is: you have hundreds of people vying for the national title, whereas at worlds you only have 64. The difference, though, is that those 64 players are INVITED (meaning that you have next to zero weak players, and absolutely no players that are clueless when it comes to playing the game).

While it would be really neat to see prizes go up for BOTH events (48 Nintendo Wiis, six figures worth of scholarships, and twelve free trips to Orlando are nuts, though), I like the way they have it setup now. While it's certain that the sixty four best players in the world will NEVER be there at any given time, you couldn't have a more competitive, balanced gathering of players than at the World Championships, simply due to it being an invite-only event.

Oh by the way, unless Canada sees a spike in attendance, all it should ever receive are four invites per age group: nine decided at nationals, and three decided by nation-exclusive rankings. That way, Americans and Mexicans won't spam up the system, and make it possible for a consistent Canadian to make worlds. I wouldn't give a crap if, someday, the entire top EIGHT in each age group was Canadian: demanding to take away from everyone solely due to individual success is ridiculous.
