Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Cards that might be in Triumphant that may change the Meta

they would be huntering uxie trying to get a new gengar

drawing for 1-3 each turn trying to draw into the cards for a stage 2 line and totally open to power spray

good luck with that

oh yeah and sp will snipe that uxie. not to mention pick up their crobats/garchomps/luxrays to lol at you when you hunter

and decks that aren't sp won't have a hard time pulling off 130 dmg in one turn.....

of course pokegym people will say vileplume is overhyped. and then complain gengar is overpowered. haha it's hysterical

Hey. I don't think gengar is very good.I was just giving an example. Also yeah u don't have. To hunter each turn, but can u really keep every single pkmn out of ur hand? Also cursed droplets and gengar x isn't half bad. 2ko 2 support pkmn or whatever. It's not like gengar can't run other lost zoning cards

You know what gengar's first attack does right?

[P] Plunge Into Darkness: Look at your opponent’s hand, choose a number of Pokemon up to the number of Psychic Energy attached to this Pokemon, and place them in the Lost Zone.

How does picking up you're pokemon help at all?

The purpose of hunter is to put pokemon in your hand, if you're opponent already knows that you have pokemanz, then there's no need to hunter :lightning:

Gengar prime may not be "teh brokkenz," but its bad for the metagame by reducing the amount of competitive archetypes (a la GG in 2008 imo)

Gengar prime doesnt even need lost world to be competitive imo. Sending pokemon to the lost zone is really good as it is. Pair this with Cursegar and you're good to go.

Poison wouldn't do much against Cubone, a decent Cubone deck would run 4 Poke Healer + and at least 2 Nidoqueen. It'd also be run with Donphan or Machamp and they'd take down Crobats. After I take down one, I'm hoping they don't run that much Psychic energy  Or if they do, I'll kill it again!

Beyond that, Considering Gengar Prime is the top deck in Japan, you can't count it out or you'll be dead. The best way to fight it is with a mirror match, or with a deck that plays a small bench (to avoid the obvious Palkia G Lv. X tech) like Donchamp Prime or Cubone decks, especially Cubone which just needs a couple of dark energy and a Honchkrow SV tech to kill Gengar Prime.

Gengar can easily spread 4 damage counters on 4 different poke's and then spread with Gengar LVX to knock them out and send them to the lost zone. I think that's much better then relying on the pokés in your opponents hand.

Bingo!

Gengar Prime Spread and SpeedGar will be the top two decks.

3 energies on a stage 2 lv.x that can be 2hko'd by luxray, garchomp or dialga, and ohko'd by absol g. That'll show em.

2HKO by Luxray, yep . . . for 3 Energy (or 2 and a Gain) + 2 discards.

2HKO by Chomp, no . . . Resistance, and you would need to cycle the Chomp anyway, spending 2DCE to KO one Pokemon. How many Bats + Turns are you going to spend doing this?

2HKO by DGX, yep . . . for 4 Energy (or 3 and a Gain)

OHKO by Absol G . . . Absol G? Absol G? Is that a real reason not to do anything?

It's sp, should crobats really need to be said?
Also for garchomp, I know it's a little hard to do the math there, but that would be 2 flashbites.

Also, if gengar is apparently going to be so format wrecking then absol g is absolutely something needs to be worried about. That's like vileplume ignoring dialga or any bench manipulation is in the format.

EDIT: do you really want to defend spreadgar prime just so you can disagree with me?

LOL . . . always so patronising, with so little to be patronising about. Just so you know, making these little snarky comments does not disguise the poor quality of your argument.

to 2HKO Gengar X with Chomp you are going to need . . .

2 Flashbites
2 DCE
A way of using Dragon Rush on consecutive turns (2 Chomp Xs out, or 2 Chomp C and another PokeTurn).

Is it possible? Yes.

Is it a convincing reason not to use Gengar X in the manner proposed? Not at all.

EDIT: do you really want to defend spreadgar prime just so you can disagree with me?

No, I'm just suggesting that if you want to attack the deck, you need better ammunition.

And this:

wasn't condescending at all. Clearly a quality argument against absol.

Also, are we gonna talk about all of them, or one of my examples? I mean if we're gonna talk about quality of arguments, I don't see how well yours is doing by changing the conversation to a part of my post instead of all of it.

So this has nothing to do with you thinking that spreadgar prime is viable, but just to argue.

Gengar Prime falls to Honchkrow SV in one hit, which is a counter-Mewtwo LV. X tech. Doesn't that work just as well?

I have no idea if 'spreadgar prime' (did you just make that name up?) is viable or not, as I haven't tested it. I suspect there are better ways of using Gengar.

Your desire to shoot the deck down, citing a bunch of expensive 2HKOs, struck me as being pretty poor, so I thought I would see if I could get anyone to give more valid reasons as to why the deck doesn't work. If they could, it would save me some playtesting time.

Yeah I thought that was a short and descriptive way of referring to the idea. Also, you did get me though, they don't exactly clean shop against gengar, but absol is something to consider if making a gengar deck. I know it's a silly idea, but if gengar's getting so much hype that even if it doesn't live up to it, absol should be popping up here and there from it being played so widely.
