Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Carrington388's CaC Contest--"The Apprentice" Style

Heh... Breaking door type large-sized closet... this stuff'll be great for my Babelfish cards...

ZOMG I found it! It's nowhere near as good as Mine.

Explanation: An Anti-Social Behaviour Order is given to someone who engages in anti-social behaviour, such as vandalism, or carrying imitation firearms (as demonstrated by Charles Clarke in the artwork, one of the major politicians behind the introduction of ASBOs). The most common content of an ASBO is some sort of restraining order, which is what this card focuses on. Effectively the Pokemon with an ASBO attached it it is restricted to the Bench, and if it becomes active, whoever was responsible has to pay a penalty fine, in the form of increasing thier number of prizes by one. A ruling I feel I should point out is what happens if the Pokemon with an ASBO attached becames active because all other Pokemon in play have been Knocked Out. In this case, the owner of the ASBO has to place a prize card, as they chose to make that Pokemon become active, despite it being a choice between make the Pokemon with an ASBO attached Active, or make the Pokemon with an ASBO attached Active. This corresponds to several similar real rules.

Strategy: The best Pokemon to attach ASBOs to are those that sit on the Bench providing useful Poke-Powers or Bodies, but can't really stand up for themselves in battle. A prime example of this would be UF Houndoom. Simply attach the ASBO to Houndoom, and if your opponent wants to have a chance of Knocking it Out, they have a choice between trying to build up something which can deal significant Bench damage (HL Rhydon would make a useful combo if this were the case), or force Houndoom active and suffer a prize penalty. Another card that works well with ASBO is Porygon2, as it can return ASBO to your hand, allowing you to avoid the penalty when you want to make the Pokemon ASBO was attached to Active.

Yeah... had to do some glaring hints there...

Charge Juju
Pokémon Tool
Rarity: Rare

Picture (If this isn't easy to visualize... :nonono:)

Attach Charge Juju to 1 of your Pokémon that doesn't already have a Pokémon Tool attached to it. If that Pokémon is Knocked Out, discard this card. Charge Juju can only be attached to an Evolved Pokémon (excluding Pokémon-ex). If a Pokémon already has a tool attached to it, you can't attach Charge Juju. If the Pokémon Charge Juju is attached to becomes a Basic Pokémon or Pokémon-ex, discard Charge Juju.

If the Pokémon that Charge Juju is attached to is Active, it pays (C)(C) less to use its attacks.

Explanation: It's like a Double Colorless Energy in a tool, but not! It lowers your attack costs by (C)(C), but doesn't allow you to retreat for less. Lowering it by (C) doesn't justify the attachment of such a tool, blocking others, except for getting "2" Energy attachments a turn. Although the fact remains that you could theoretically go from 0 Energy to 3 in a turn, the rarity combined with the fact that is can only provide (C) Energy [that don't help if the cost is, say, (W)(W)(W)], and that it doesn't help it retreat, and the need for it being attached to an Evolved Pokémon that isn't a Pokémon-ex, justifies it being a Rare card with said power.

Combos: Roughly any Evolved Pokémon (other than Pokémon-ex) can use this lovely tool in place of a (C)(C) Energy... and it can't be discarded like an Energy... but it can be discarded like a Trainer. Good in a bit of a jam. Can't be used to retreat, as stated, but also helps against attacks that do whatever damage for each Energy attached to the Pokémon. Heck, it can make certain attacks free! I like this on a Pokémon I don't worry about being KO'ed, like Shedinja... but it certainly had many, many uses. Work having 4 of in every deck that you would run (C)(C) in (except for decks that focus on Chansey or Scyther, or other Basics that use (C)(C) Energy).

Well, Ancient Pokemon Trainer missed the boat for this tiebreaker and has thus missed his chance to become the captain of Team Torchic. Here are the grades for the 2 Pokémon Tools that were submitted:

Anti-Social Behavior Order (ZoraJolteon)
Name--3/3. I believe "behaviour" is the British spelling. I labeled the scoring with the American one but didn't take off any points.
Picture--3/3. You could have made that BBC image a bit more crisper, but it was uniform enough to not take off.
Trainer Mechanic(s)--5/5. Got the tool right.
Effect--30/30. A good disruptor for switching mechanics and also a very good protector as well. Especially for Pokémon-ex.
Rarity--3/3. With the drawback, I think Uncommon would fit rather well.
Explanations--8/8. Nicely done.
Strategy--8/8. Nice.
ZoraJolteon's Score--60/60.

Charge Juju (LorakLucan)
Name--3/3. Works.
Picture--2/3. I don't get that background.
Trainer Mechanic(s)--5/5. It is a tool, so that's right.
Effect--30/30. Very good effect, plus a good drawback of only reducing {C} in the costs.
Rarity--3/3. That would work.
Explanations--8/8. Nice.
Strategy--8/8. Great.
LorakLucan's Score--59/60.

That means, by one point, ZoraJolteon is the new captain of Team Torchic!

ZoraJolteon, as the captain, you have a lot of responsibility around here. It's up to you to lead Team Torchic in the hopes of avoiding the boardroom, which Burninating_Torchic wasn't very good at doing. That includes doing your own card as well as helping your teammates out of jams. I can't point everything out, you know.

Since Team Torchic now has a captain, I can finally reveal which member of Team Techno Fluff is going to be moving over to Team Torchic. That member is dragonspy900. Hopefully you've taken some good experience and the know-how to win back to Team Torchic.

Anyway, the round 11 assignment will be up shortly.

Team Torchic:
Captain: ZoraJolteon
2. LorakLucan
3. Ancient Pokemon Trainer
4. dragonspy900

Team Techno Fluff:
Captain: Sunflorazumarill
2. DragonSol
3. Scribble
4. lunatone_solrock

And Carrington still has yet to address the issues brought up recently in this topic. I'm not dropping this until we get a fair explanantion for why you let someone go through to the enxt round for not doing ANY cards (i.e. ignoring the competition completely [no offense meant here APT]) and kciking someone for attempting to help the team. And you've yet to address the fairness issues of the round, seeing as one competition had an obvious advantage over the rest of the competition (read Sunflorazumarill).

Honestly, this has been the most flawed round of the competition. There's been a huge backlash, and yet you continue to ignore any questions that are being brought up. This to me seems like, as you would put it, a "corporate cover-up for a covert opperation". In real life, all this seems is like a chance to get rid of one of the better competitors so that someone you want to win will.

So, how 'bout an answer? Why did you reward nothing instead of something? Why are you choosing to ignore any statements about this topic? Why are you showing jsut slight favoritism in the contest? Why are you keeping silent.

Remember, apathy over attempt gets you everywhere in this contest...

Here's the round 11 assignment:

"The man" was asked to do one of two projects. One was to provide 8 Trainer cards for EX: Johto, the other was to make 8 Yu-Gi-Oh cards to pack in as promos for a Yu-Gi-Oh Monopoly game. "The man" has chosen the former, the Trainer cards.

This round, we're revisting EX: Johto, the set that was first talked about in round 9, where 22 out of 24 Pokémon cards made by the teams got put into the set. Well, now we're seeking some of the set's Trainer mix, and the teams have been asked to create some unique mechanics for the 8 Trainer cards made by the teams for EX: Johto.

The original Gym Heroes and Gym Challenge sets had some Trainer cards that weren't affiliated with any owner in the set. For example, Fervor isn't exactly linked to Blaine, Good Manners isn't exactly linked to Erika, and Master Ball was in the Japanese Vending set. The same is being asked of EX: Johto: you do not have to affiliate these trainers with an owner.

Of course, we've been asked to make some unique mechanics. For the 8 Trainer cards made by the teams, we'll revisit contests of the past from this iteration of Pokégym. From dkates's Psychic Pokémon contest to LorakLucan's Pokémon-juj contest and everything in between, there's been plenty of contest winners to whet anyone's appetite. These 8 Trainer cards will each counter a winning entry from just one of these contests, either generally or specifically. Here's an example card that's a counter of a card from an ungraded contest ran by the original contest master, dkates:

Extra Anklet
Trainer Card (Pokémon Tool)

Attach Extra Anklet to 1 of your Pokémon (excluding {D} Pokémon with Dark or Rocket in its name) that doesn't already have a Pokémon Tool attached to it. If that Pokémon is Knocked Out, discard this card.

Any damage done to a Pokémon-ex by the Pokémon Extra Anklet is attached to is increased by 20 (before Weakness and Resistance).

Simply put, Extra Anklet is intended to counter every card in the contest linked above, including what would have been the winner had dkates gotten around to grading the contest, by doing 20 extra damage for each attack.

Anyway, here's a list of the eligible contests you can make cards to counter the winning entries of:

dkates's Psychic Pokémon Contest (Winning Entry: rebellee1187's Girafarig, 79/85)
dkates's Old School Pokémon Contest (Winning Entry: The Deuce's Dratini, Dragonair, and Dragonite, avg. 72/75)

And here's the specifications and rubric:

Descriptor References: Permitted; Dark, Light, Shining, and Pokémon-* Only
Owner References: Permitted
Ultima Type References: No
Multi-Prize Mechanic References: Permitted; Pokémon-ex Only
Chaos Emerald Mechanic References: No
Legal Mechanics: Normal Trainer, Supporter, Stadium Card, Pokémon Tool, Technical Machine, <team>'s Secret Machine, <city> Game Corner
NOTE: <team> references an evil team, such as Rocket, Magma, or Cipher. <city> references a city with a Game Corner that has slot machines, that is, Celadon, Goldenrod, or Mauville.

Name--3 points. Make sure you spell it right.
Picture--3 points. Make it descriptive, and rather easy to visualize.
Trainer Mechanic(s)--5 points. Make sure the mechanic matches the effect. You'd get less for a Supporter that would do better as a normal basic, for example.
Effect--30 points. Make sure the Trainer works well and counters the winning card of the contest you choose.
Rarity--3 points. Although most Trainers are Uncommon, not all Trainers are such. The four basic rarities (common, uncommon, rare, and holo) are all in play here.
Explanations--8 points. May sound harsh, but it helps to explain not only how the card works, but why mechanics are what they are.
Strategy--8 points. How could you play this Trainer card with other cards?
Round 11 Possible Total--60 points.
If both teams have average scores of 37 points or lower, both teams go to the boardroom.

Anyway, it's time to make some cards. Team Torchic is coming off a devastating loss and a changing of captains. Can Team Torchic's new management turn it around? Team Techno Fluff is seeking to make it three in a row. Can they do it? May the best team win.

And still no answers. Carrington, this is turning into a ludacris run-around. I probably would have dropped this if you gavea response after the second request for a mild explanation for what's going on. BUt this is the fourth time we've made this plea. You're ignoring us and its making quite a few of us pretty ****** off.

NO offense meant; I'm sure you're agreat guy in real life. But, honestly, you're treating those of us who were in your contest and other people who are weekly viewers (and trust me, there are many of us out there) who want some answers to the travesty last round. It makes NO sense to allow someone to go into the next round for attempting to do nothing is absolutely ludacris. Sure BT didn't follow the rules, but at least he tried to make up for another member of the team not pulling his weight. His elimination last round was jsut not right, but only everyone else sees that. You're the only one who doesn't see that.

Also, the last round was highly unfair. Seeing as how SFAM was the ONLY perosn who had ANY idea about how to use and balance the mechanics best on a card. As a matter of fact, to my knowledge, NO ONE knew what the heck Chaos-Emeral mechanics were and the idea in and of itself has NO POSSIBLE releveance to the Pokemon-TCG whatsoever. Most contests try to focus on carsd that could possibly be released in later expansions. Chaos Emerald is jsut some video fanboy's fantasy.

Finally, you jsut keep ignoring those of us who have supported and enjoyed your contest up to this point. I've really enjoyed seeing how you handed Boardrooms, judgings, and your challenges up to this point. But this last round was a huge slip from the quality many of us have expected from this contest. I hope you can figure out a way to respond to all that's been posted through your ignorance, because there's a lot of ground for you to cover. I doubt you'll even touch it though.

Honestly, you could make it better by, essentially, nulling the last round and reasmitting BT back into the contest. But I doubt you'll do that. You'll probably go on in naivity, ignoring the chaos around this contest right now (no pun intended). Hopefully you can recover from this huge mistake in the contest. Just please at least have an answer for us soon.

Preache it, brotha! Yeah, Cardz has the right idea.

I say this, we all boycott the next contest if there will be one. BTW, why don't you all just drop now? =/

I agree with metal master. I believe every person still in this game has reason to drop...
Except, maybe, SUNFLORAZUMARILL.
Why? Because he knows he's going to win.
Why? Because the contest is one big ball of bias.
Besides, he and carrington are the same person after all...

Metal Master, you won't have to boycott the next contest, because I will be making it.

BT, I meant boycott the next contest/set that C388 does. If you do the next one, I'm behind you on that, because you'll be fair in judging, and you don't actually hate Nintendo.

I chose to abandon my policy of stay silent and wait for everyone else to kill themselves and say that BT should start the contest right now.

P.S. Even with the inaccurate judging my Tool still pwns yours Lorak :p Reread your first paragraph. It should be obvious in hindsight to see where you made a basic error.

Cardzmaster2004: I'm trying to put the events of the last round behind the participants and myself. The round themes for the first 14 rounds of the contest were decided before round 1 even began. (I haven't yet decided on themes for any round after round 14, although I'm leaning toward one post-14 round being geared toward CaC knowledge rather than cardmaking.) As the game progresses, the tasks are supposed to become harder, although I didn't think people would think round 10 was that hard when the themes were decided.

Burninating_Torchic and DragonSol: Sunflorazumarill is bound to the same rules you were. I don't play favorites. If Sunflorazumarill were to make a ton of illegal cards in a round, odds are Team Techno Fluff would get a new captain for the following round. And the rumor that Sunflorazumarill and I are the same person is pure bull[OOPS!]. For the record, Sunflorazumarill usually takes an old-fashioned approach to Weakness and Resistance in sets, such as still giving {C} Pokémon that aren't part-Flying {P} Resistance even though that practice stopped with Dragon-types with Expedition and with Normal-types with EX: Ruby and Sapphire, while I take a variety of approaches, including real cards, in finding sensical Weakness and Resistance for cards.

ZoraJolteon: If I were to do another reality show-based contest after this one is over, odds are it won't be based on The Apprentice.

ZoraJolteon, LorakLucan, Ancient Pokemon Trainer, dragonspy900, Sunflorazumarill, DragonSol, Scribble, and lunatone_solrock: I've edited the Strategy line in the rubric to fix an error in both this thread and the cardmaking threads.
