Cheating on Camera

Oh, we know that. Newman has a very bad history. But we need to approach all cheating topics much more carefully than some have done here. Many of the principles posters are using here can and will be applied wrongly to future videos, so we need to avoid that from becoming an issue now.

I'm much more concerned about innocent people being accused of cheating than I am of Newman. An ignorant player could do this exact same thing, only in the context of a mistake as opposed to deliberate cheating (which is what I admittedly think happened here).

I understand the concern about innocents being accused, but there is no precedent for it. The Top Cut has been providing great videos for over a year now, and people haven't been scouring them for evidence of cheating. When such evidence basically does a handstand and a backflip in front of the camera, like in this Newman case, then of course people are going to notice it and be outraged, and rightfully so. I don't fear that the community will from now on look at any videos, from TTC or other sources, with the witch hunt mentality.

This Newman guy is really showing a good example to the younger players on how Pokemon should be played. I can see Juniors and Seniors pulling off stunts like what Newman did, but shame on him considering he is in the masters division. It makes me wonder what kind of record he would have gotten at regionals if the judges were to stand right over his shoulder for each round.

The one thing that did kind of disturbed me was the fact that he did not even put the deck down when he was offering the opponent to cut his deck. The body language right there shows "Only I can touch my cards, and you can't cut my deck".

I have a tendency to hold my deck with an open palm for my opponents to cut. This makes it so they don't have to move the bottom half back on top, as I already have it in my hand =)

Although this is obviously a very different case....closed grip, no arm extension to offer the cut etc.

Everyone is attacking the guy... The only solid evidence of misplay is looking at his deck when the N was played. That deff is a CLEAR violation of the rules. I don't wanna point fingers about the catcher issue as we are not 100% sure of the situation.

Stacking his deck at the 8:15 mark is also a clear violation of the rules. Everyone is attacking this guy because there is video evidence to implicate him.

I am 100% certain on the Catcher issue.

A Catcher fell out of his deck. This happens, I'm not saying he purposely threw that card on to the table while shuffling, probably just an accident. So he puts in on the bottom of his deck, then shuffles 6 cards or so at time from the top to the bottom until he reaches the bottom, and then, just stops. What happens next is even more suspicious. We know and we assume he knows the Catcher from the bottom has safely made its way to the top of the deck, so he carefully mashes the lower 2/3s of his deck together without rearranging the top few cards, slams his deck down, and draws the Catcher off the top.

Check it out in 720p.

I guess what im trying to say MOST of us don't have the power to do anything as its out of our control.

So stop turning it into a soap and let the proper authorities make the call.

Cheaters are out there and we know it... Doesn't make me enjoy the game any less... I knew what I was getting into and the implications.

And the "proper authorities" wouldn't know this guy cheated if we didn't "attack" him about it...

Cheaters need to know that the whole community is disgusted by them and their actions.

There is no doubt in my mind that this guy cheated on more than one occasion, I hope they come down hard on him... Anyone trying to back him up and say that you can't be certain he cheated should actually study the video.. His shuffling habits change through the course of the game. When he uses Dragon Call right before the catcher incident he finishes his shuffle differently... I am not a detective or anything but it is obvious! This sickens me and it should sicken everyone who watches it!

Fixed that for you .

The question now is not whether or not Newman cheated, but rather how many TPCi staff you think will be debating his punishment?

thats why cuts are usually always seen in games bcause of stuff like this. I heard ofr newman years ago and his sneaky ways. I hope he is eventua;l;y caught by this and is suspended again. I also agree with pokepop in that hew should of NEVERRRRR let his search after he played n :( what a sad day whne this game is subjected to cgheating after all the cuts pop did to stop that

For those who don't know, Newman's first ban came to him when he offered his top 16 opponent at a regional packs if he'd throw the match for him. He plays in our area and is well known for shady tactics and sly playing. He's also known for not having friends, since every time he manages to get a crew together, he collects all their cards and sells them (keeping all the money). He's done this to at least 2 people. He also plays Yugioh and WOW (same reputation in those games as well). There isn't a single tournament he's at where he isn't watched like a hawk, and he still tries to pull stuff. (extra energy drops, extra draw, looking at the top card, stalling, rushing) He needs to go, so I can judge my events in peace.

I think you guys are missing the marketing potential here. A whole new youtube reality series: TheTopCut Investigates. They could sell T-shirts and Playmats with the phrase "NEWMAN CHEATED" and "NEWMAN 8:15.". They will sell like ironic hotcakes. Newman could even have his own show where each week he tries another new crazy stunt and gets banned from another game or store! "That's so Newman!"
There's even potential for cool promo cards like "Newman's Training.
Whenever you would shuffle your deck you may search for any one card and place it on top. Do not allow your opponent to cut."
You guys are focusing on the negatives, but theres money to be made!

These are the kind of comments I'm referring to.

Innocent until proven guilty....

Also "hating" on someone for cheating isn't gonna change what the people at TPIC does.

Innocent until proven guilty....

That's for criminal cases. Civil cases only need 'balance of probablility'. Past behaviour and the video give you that.

Also "hating" on someone for cheating isn't gonna change what the people at TPIC does.

Not the point.

Cheaters need to know that they are hated on. One of the great things about Pokemon is that cheats are not tolerated by the players. They find they have no friends and no respect in the game and this helps to get rid of them.

I know there are some TCGs where successful but very shady players are admired right up to the moment they get banned (and sometimes afterwards). That's not how things are done in Pokemon.

Not to mention the fact that he actually picked up his deck and looked through it after playing N. He must have known that he broke the rules; I find it hard to believe that he doesn't know the effects of N.
