Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Chinese Cards

So, I talked to a guy from China and this is what he said....

Base set was printed in Traditional Chinese in Taiwan. Hong Kong cards and Simplified print were fake. So that means there is only one variation of Base set after all... However, it seems that there was more than just that.

EX Legend Maker was also printed in Chinese. It seems they were trying to start up their own organized play, but it didnt pan out. Also, it seems that the EX Trainer Kits for Plusle and Minun were printed as well. I dont yet know if there are any other sets, but this seems to be it. I also dont know about 1st editions for this set or RH, although the source does not show either.

Chinese Sets:

Base - 1st edition and Unlimited
EX Legend Maker
EX Trainer Kit Plusle (fixed set of 30 cards)
EX Trainer Kit Minun (fixed set of 30 cards)

He will most likely get back to me tomorrow and I can learn if there was anything else or any RH versions of the cards.

There were legit Chinese cards, printed in Traditional Chinese characters, for sale in Taiwan and Hong Kong. Simplified Chinese cards are fake.
The Chinese cards were manufactured by Hasbro, who probably got the rights from WotC. I think the cards in Taiwan were manufactured by Hasbro as well (see below pictures for proof).

After seeing Tony Sandlin's request for Chinese cards on many forums (including Chinese ones), I decided to dig through my collection. Have a look at the images below:

Let's have a look at image 3. The side of the starter box says "本包裝內含61張集換式遊戲紙牌,傷害指示物,一本新手遊戲指南,和一本全彩的規則說明書。 香港商孩之寶玩具百貨香港有限公司台灣分公司地址:台北市松江路146號8樓之2 電話:080-058-585“
Translation: "Inside this package are 61 collectable game cards, damage counters, a guidebook for beginners, and a full color rulebook" Below that reads, "Hong Kong Hasbro toys limited Taiwan sub company address: Taipei City Songjiang Road 146, 8th floor 2nd unit. Telephone: 080-058-585".

The game cards were very likely printed in Taiwan. All the cards into the 5 decks are shadowed, first edition. Any Chinese sets other than base were not for sale in Hong Kong. I don't know about Taiwan. Aside from that, I have NEVER seen legit simplified Chinese cards.

That is awesome! Thanks for all your information! Are those 1st edition or Unlimited?

Hopefully we can also figure out the Legend Maker mystery once and for all :p

i was reading up on that funbox website you gave me. it seems that was a one-time promotional event that hasbro got funbox to do in 2006. Funbox is a toys distributor in TW, they do not manufacture the cards. In 2006, there was PokePark. So, in Taiwan, Hasbro or Nintendo probably took advantage of that and wanted to use it as a chance to market the cards to Taiwanese kids. The Pulse and Minun decks were promotional items at the event, and so were the Legend Maker cards. The events took place in chain department stores like Mitsukoshi.

So...my guess is that...after the event and Funbox got the money, noone continued with the cards in Taiwan... The event didn't take place in Hong Kong, so the decks and packs weren't shipped here. Good luck finding those Chinese Legend maker cards. From the pics posted on funbox, we can see that lots of ppl who attended were kids between 5-10. Even if you managed to get your hands on those cards, I doubt they would be in NM/M condition

The cards in the five boxes of Chinese cards I posted earlier are ALL first edition, with shadow.

I've gotta try if I want to complete my collection :) I honestly wouldnt care about the condition as long as I can get my hands on them lol I'll continue to search for them but I just dont know how to go about it since I obviously dont know how to speak Chinese lol I just wish I could get into contact with the guy from that blog haha

Either way, thanks for the help and the pictures!

why not try writing to them in english? hmm, or write to nintendo japan/ pokemon company? i don't know.....don't know if they would reply you, but maybe it's worth a try?

Well, I've been told there were more, but the lack of proof is what is confusing me. The website shows cards that are printed in Chinese, but are obviously not Base set. As far as I can tell, that website is legit. However, I've looked into the website a bit and found that it is probably used to teach people how to play Pokemon. I'm thinking that maybe the cards were Photoshopped to have Chinese print in order to be an aid to help the Chinese learn to play the game.

Its either that, or Chinese must have been printed in more sets than just Base.

Thoughts?

I have seen base set cards printed in traditional chinese (HK), Simplified Chinese (PRC), and traditional Chinese (TW).

So there are at least three versions. :(

are you sure these are chinese cards? they look like korean cards

Yeah, I'm sure. Korean cards never had a Legend Maker print. These cards seem to be extremely hard to find though. Not many people collect Chinese cards anyway, but these would be a cool novelty I think.

pikatw is written in chinese.
korean in general uses a lot of circle type symbols.

Also because of the rocky history between the korean and Japanese there are a lot of missing korean pokemon stuff. They had a lifted ban on Japanese culture stuff in 98 which had gen I and II but not until October 2004, was the imports ban lifted.
so yes, Koreans are missing most if not all the gen III Material. This was due to translation issues with Gen III.
However in Korea today , they have very well translated product.

Pikatw looks to be mostly dead to me and I had troubles creating an account there anyway. Perhaps if I can contact someone there, I can get more info or even some more scans of this set in Chinese.

Anyway, that is interesting stuff about Korean bans. I knew about the ban, but I was unaware of the import ban lasting that long.
