Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Death of pokemon

Always remember -

Pokémon don't die, they only get Knocked Out!

You win the thread! :thumb:

I just think over 500 (600?) will be absurd. I didn't say pokemon died for me, just that everyone outside of tournaments I've attended thinks pokemon is one or all of the following:

Childish, stupid, uncool, no longer new sets, nerdy, waste of time, never heard of it, never heard of ru/sa+.

I think that one thing that could really bring some fun into the Pokemon franchise is Pokemon Stadium DS, a port of Pokemon Stadium 2 that you can transfer your RBYGSC Pokemon to, then transfer them to your GBA version or trade to your friend's D/P, trading back only RBYGSC compatible Pokemon, of course. *shifty eyes* That would be good enough for me.

There's absolutely NO way they'll be able to come up with another generation of Pokemon, no matter how hard they try and how much they want to.
The new Pokemon are just way too pathetic. Not to mention the fact that they created a god Pokemon as well as an entire explanation of how the Pokemon world began (essentially, the mythology of the Pokemon world).
I predict that they'll make between 5 and 10 spin-off games (like Mystery Dungeon, Dash, Stadium, Colloseum, Puzzle Challenge, etc), but when it comes time for another generation, they'll be flat out of ideas. Pokemon will die.

What Happened to Latios in Movie 5?
What Happened to Lucario in Movie 8?
Why are there pokemon graveyards in Lavender town and Mt Pyre?
What Happened to Marowak in the game the mother of Cubone that Team Rocket Killed?

haha nice. I was thinking that exact same thing.

Didn't Satoshi Tajiri create over 1000 Pokemon characters before RB came out? I doubt that he'd make that many and NOT see them released, especially with the incredible popularity of the games.

I am ABSOLUTLY sure that you are wrong, but I have been having the same thoughts...
Did Chansey need a pre-evo, and did Magneton really need another stage.

I heard that he started working on it 16 years ago, but I didn't know he made 1000 of them! Where are you getting this from?

[Edited]!!!!! That's amazing! You're saying there's thing that lets you take your Pokemon from the very first version of the game and transfer them to a newer game? I have never heard of this!! That's so cool! Where'd you hear about this from?

I agree with B_T to some extent. I don't know a huge amount about most of the new pokes there are now (sue me 9_9), but I know a fair amount about the new legendaries, and honestly I don't know where they could possibly go from here. They've got rulers of time and space, as well as a creator god. I don't think it gets and more legendary than that.

bullados - "Created them" doesn't mean he submitted them to GameFreak/Creatures. "Created" could mean he drew them and then threw half of them in the trashcan immediately.

FS - and if they Pokemon continue to be lame, the series will stop making money.

ninetales1234 - He didn't say it was a real game. It's something he made up. Check the fanfic forum.

As a game designer, I'm going to laugh at you and publically ridicule you for mentioning creating the world's mythology as a reason that it's going down. That's usually something you have in mind at the start, not the end.

There can be as many new games as Gamefreak wants, if they stop trying to introduce 100+ new Pokémon every generation. Something like a Pokémon RPG that doesn't follow the RBYGGSCRSEDP formula, for example, would sell extremely well. It's sheer memorization issue for this—if there were 1000+ Pokémon, nobody would care about them all. It's only because of evolution trees and whatnot that they can get away with the amount they have now.

In most games' case, yes.
In Pokemon's case, no.
IMO, the Pokemon designers' thought process was something like 'Alright, we can only think up one more generation of Pokemon. Let's throw a god Pokemon and a mythology system in there, I think some fans would like that, and it might drive up our sales for the last generation.'
And frankly, creating a mythology system for Pokemon is just a flat out bad idea anyways. Part of what gave the original generation of Pokemon its charm was the mystery that these creatures were shrouded in.

Also, side note, I can't help but laugh when you claim to be all sorts of things - first a published author, and now a game designer? And those are just the only two I've seen; I don't doubt that you've claimed to be even more than that.

I never lie about what I am. I've gotten my writing published before, and I've done (and continue to do) game design work. Does the latter mean I'm a professional working for Nintendo or EA or something? No. Does it mean I know nothing of design? No. The criteria are all met, but you just don't want to admit that I have a lot more experience in either of those fields (and possibly others) than the average 'Gymmer.

That said, explain how it's a bad thing for Pokémon to set its own mythology out. I saw the "but then they lose their mystique!" argument that I originally predicted seeing, but nothing concrete. There wasn't any "mystery" even at the start of Pokémon. They were simply animals you engaged in what was essentially cockfighting with. And there were powerful ones. Deific ones. Remember the legendary birds? Even from the start, with the second movie (Japanese version, not English), they were established to be gods. Gamefreak hasn't added anything new to the franchise at all—they're just one-upping what they already had. A well-defined world with detailed mythology and culture invariably has infinitely more enjoyability than a vaguely-designed one with a faceless prepubescent boy raising animals to fight for him.

As always B_T is making bold and stupid claims. 4th gen isn't even out so we can't possibly know if there'll be a 5th generation, but seeing as how D/P outsold RBY in Japan and it's Nintendo's 2nd best selling franchise there is no reason for them to stop making more generations.

He was one of the founders of Game Freak/Creatures. I doubt he didnt submit his own ideas to a company he helped create. That makes no sense.

I also think there will some more games. We still dont have a Fightning and Normal type Eeveelution. :thumb:

It'd be funny if a generation or two down the road, there's an Eeveelution for every type.

Sad, but funny.

You mean a Normal, Fire, Water, Grass, Electric, Metal, Ghost, Fighting, Dragon, Psychic, Poison, Metal, Dark, Flying, ???, Time, Space, Vacuum, Proton, Black Hole, Musical, Mario, Atomic, Werewolf, Vampire, Frankenstein, Pirate, Ninja, Relish, Amoeba, Popcorn, Unreasonably Broken, Ground, Rock, Scissors, Paper, QWERTY, and Ice type Eeveelutions?

I always envisioned the next big Pokemon game being either a MMORPG (very wanted, but extremely complicated to actually make), or a "Pokemon All-Stars", with every major region in the game, the ability to travel to/start at each, and progressivly higher level battles in every new region.

But actually complete the franchise? Naaah. #1, this last gen has already beaten the OGs as the fastest selling Pokemon game ever, *while there is still a DS shortage in Japan, so everyone who wants to buy right now can't, the number would be even higher*. #2, new Pokemon don't have to be more powerful than the old generations, just comparable #3, even though they now have North, South, East and West in the game geography covered, they've managed to pull entire regions like Fiore, Orre, the Sevii Islands, and other areas basically out of nowhere. It is *based* on the real-life Japanese geography, but they can alter it to suit their mood however they want. "Running out of good ideas" or "these new Pokemon are lame" are basically a personal opinion, and that difference of opinion obviously doesn't matter too much when the majority of Pokemon fans are scrambling for this game like never before, and new fans are being made every day. I'm always thought that there were a few lame ducks in every generation, even the first. But that's why we now have almost 500 different ones to choose from, variety is the spice of life.

I can't believe that you would actually think that a multi-million dollar franchise this sucessful would suddenly decide to "give it up". It doesn't make sense, it never WILL make sense, and it won't happen. Bad sales will kill the franchise, or an indirect/direct act of God, nothing else.
