Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

DeckBuilding like a CHAMPION . . .

How can someone be an "8" if they've never made top cut.

It's frustrating seeing users like this who think that because they can make up 20 decklists, that their lists are gold. Anyone can type up a decklist; that doesn't make you a great deckbuilder.

A great deckbuilder makes a deck and beats the metagame. My younger brother makes decks constantly. That doesn't make him good, it means he has a good imagination. Yeah, you can see what works well together. It doesn't mean that you know how to use it or how to beat players who put effort into a worthwhile deck. I see a LOT of posters/spammers that have close to an average 50 posts/day like Bippa (threads about why people aren't using 50hp pichu to get energy out of the discard, telling people how to make decks from cards that are 1-2 sets yet released, etc) and ArmoredMewtwo (who knows how many zero-synergy decklists) who come up with all of these decks that are half-put together, then think they are great players.

Look, I'd rather not get in a flame war, but I'm making my stand here: You don't have to top to be considered a good player, especially if you live in an area filled with great players.

Many of my deck lists do have synergy, Austino. It's just that whenever you see one of them, you tend to feel high and mighty and decide to bash the living crap out of my ideas. If you happened to live in Tennessee, I would dare you to come to our States tournament just so I could shut you up with my latest little project.

I've found that the best way to improve is to lose. When you lose, you see what you need to fix, what worked, and what didn't work. I saw so many losses during the first 5 months that I started playing in OP. I would make new decks and think, "Man, they'll never see this coming!" only to be thwarted by players who know how to capitalize on small misplays and anticipate my moves. Building your own deck, putting each card in with a purpose, and having a pattern for the deck is something that will come with experience. However, building your own decks isn't the only thing you need. The deck needs to win! Just because someone can put together a deck and it looks good when typing it up doesn't mean it's consistent or a winner. Like others have said, testing is key. No deck is perfect on it's first build. It may look like it can beat the metagame, but without the ability to play it, the deck will fail.

Nothing beats experience and knowlege of the game. Yeah, with the help of T1-T2 decks luck can beat skilled players, but in the end, it's the skilled that win. Luck can only take you so far; eventually it will run out.

^^^Lol

On a more serious note. A good player doesn't have to be a good deck builder. Although a good deck builder is most likely a good player. I say this because in order to build a good deck you must know a lot about the current meta in their area. They must also know what cards are good and how they can be played to ones advantage in different situations. However to be a good player one must simply know what an opponent can and will do in any given situation. AKA Reading the situation and playing several moves ahead.

Idiot...
I even said 10's only lose to other 10's.
This infact CAN be said of Chess Masters, whereas it cannot be said of Pokemon players. Chess Masters 99/100 will only lose to a player of equal or greater caliber, outside of circumstances beyond normal (such as being drunk or tired).

Again, good game.

I'm not going to respond to this with another argument that will keep this going for another page, possibly getting it locked. I'll just let you keep thinking you win these arguments.

If you really want to settle this score SPARTA, look for me at Nats and we can play a Pokemon mirror-match best 2/3 or Chess match, ; ). I'm done arguing with you, since your arrogance blinds you.

I pretty much know how your going to respond so just save it for when we meet in real life.

This thread is arbitrary and pointless - the words "good" or "great" mean nothing, unless in context. Honestly, I have absolutely no clue where I would rank on a 1 to 10 scale.

That's one of the biggest mistakes players make; thinking that getting lucky a few times makes them a good player. Anybody can take a donk deck and end up in tops (I took 2nd in a tournament with straight donk Machamp). What the OP of the thread seems to be trying to convey, is that a good/great player builds and runs consistent decks that rely on as little luck as possible while utilizing his/her ability to read the playfield, know the options that his opponent's deck allows, and how to overcome the tricks that the opposing deck can turn.

tl;dr - Having luck doesn't make you "one of the best".

You get it.

I'm going to use some of what you said when I update and repost a new version of the Self-analysis Rating Scale.

Thank you for being one of THE ONLY people who are actually making a contribution other than posting silliness.

I suppose people can't resist trying so hard to bring attention to themselves with meaningless corny jokes/banter.

Some people might be trying to post just for attention, but I think more of them are just having some fun posting in a pointless thread, only meant for stroking one's ego.

I posted the INTENTION of this thread three times (or more)

The fact that you haven't even read the thread well enough to know WHY it's posted exposes your own ignorance.

Now.. go back to the peanut gallery and keep those sorts of destructive comments to yourself.

ITT: a bunch of 5-7's complaining about people rating themselves better than them.

sparta: level 5 can be achieved only when you use Masqueredian (masquerain hp/ledian d df) to it's full potential. with ledian d's search power and masquerains healing attack, you will never die, through the use of potions of course.

OF COURSE, HOW COULD I HAVE BEEN SO BLIND?!

THANK YOU RAMBO, FOR YOU ARE THE WIND BENEATH MY WINGS!!!!

I'm glad you bring up the AIM conversations. Because it's you who acts like a dog on there, literately. Now you've insulted me twice on this thread, and do it multiple on the AIM chats. You do it in an attempt at simply being an annoyance. The first couple times you got to me, but not now.

You call me little man yet the "scouting report" on you says your some small kid who likes to talk smack on Internet chats and Pokemon firums but when confronted in real life you hide your name behind all your buddies. The reason I say you should look for me is I can't anyone to tell me your real name and have multiple Pokegym accounts, and an AIM screen name that does match any other Internet screen name you have. While I don't hide my screen name is pretty much my real name, Christian Cobian.

About the I can't win thing, I don't walk away. I'm just the bigger man and choose to stop paying much attention to what you say because I have similar thoughts of you. You can't win vs. me...

your arguments aren't even good, you just use big words to try and win them. Like the time we had the discussion about Mewtwo Lv.X vs. Gigas. The first day you kept arguing how you could just Restructure it with Palkia Lv.X before it Leveled up. I knew all along that if you dropped a Mesprit with the Mewtwo it was GG. But you had to have someone better tell you that because the next you flipped sides on the argument. But it was only after someone had opened your eyes. So your attempts to sound knowledgeable by using BIG insulting words and annoying tactics don't against me anymore, try it on someone else.

I am for sure a professonal. I am at such a profitable level of this game that fear spreads through the community just at the slight chance my presence will be at a tournament. And I do hold the best single tournament record in the game =)

I'm a 7. No... Maybe a 7.25, possibly a 7.30.

I'm getting better, I'm learning the secrets. It's just a matter of time.

where can i find bullados' deck building 101? i know him
i think im an 8.5
very first tourney i went (almost) undefeated
if i had one more turn before the time limit was up...one more turn..... all i had to do was use my move then pow

Apparntly I'm changing the subject when I actually used a point you made, about AIM, against you. You didn't even address the excellent point I made in the Mewtwo X vs. Gigas argument. Why? I because you have nothing to respond with. I remember telling to keep thinking that a good player who techs in a Mewtwo is going to find a good way to make it an effective tech, not with those words but still the same point.

I'm the one changing the subject, LOL. I guess trying make BigChuck look bad isn't an attempt at changing it,*rolls eyes*. He knew what he was talking about, it obvious you don't. Face it SPARTA your getting owned right now, every single argument you have made so far I rubbed it right back your face.

Even the way you present yourself in these forums is pathetic. I on the other hand try to stay on subject, only get side tracked by idiots like you. (Yes, an insult because at this point you deserve it.) We all know your ways SPARTA, you come here poking fun at other players and some serious..

threads. Trying to win arguments with no success what so ever, or bullying other members with fancy writing and big words. How do I KNOW this, because I once used to do it. But I've matured from that, you on the other hand *looks left, looks right. Pauses, looks up looks down, still nothing* So when your done BEING the little boy, instead of calling me one then come talk to me. In the mean, I'll stop now before YOU get this good thread lock with your Middle school tactics.

Sorry to OP, and Mods for not taking this to PMs I just wanted to put this kid in this place in front of the community so hopefully he learns a lesson and stops his ignorant ways.

*Shakes SPARTAs' hand, GG, walks away*

I would rate myself a 9.

Let me just point out, if the good players in your area don't know your name, then I'm sorry. That should automatically point out that you are no where near an 8, 9, or 10. For instance, I have read posts by Rambo, Ryanvergel, DarthPika, and some others that have posted on this thread and I believe them when they say they are great players becuase they prove it in what they post. Some others of you who are saying you're 9s and 10s, well, I don't think that anyone will rate you that high other than yourself until you start winning bigger tourneys. Grab some trophies and Medals to back up your statements!

many good players know my name, but last time I checked, a 2 (am I a 3 now?) is nowhere near an 8 (The Least Upper Bound)

Wow, something I actually know from Real Analysis
