My friend told me, "When Emerald EX comes out, the sets of TM/TA and below are going to be cut off from the Modified Tournaments."

I need to know if this is true, or if anyone has any proof. I am pretty much sure that they will not cut them off yet. If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.

Send your comments and proof to [email protected] or Instant Message me on AIM at NeopetsUhare. You can also contact me on MSN Messenger as [email protected].

Thank you for your time, and have a good day.

To be more specific, we don't know exactly which sets will be rotated out.

There are plenty of discussions about it going on already, just search for "rotation" and you'll find tons of threads about it.

my guess would be either HL-on or FRLG-on

frlg is kinda like the new base set and it was also the 1st set after 04 worlds

As others have said, it will be HL-on or FRLG-on. So no BEX, and no Gardy. Of course, no Rare Candy. Unfortunately, Rock-Lock and DragTrode will still be played. I think they may replace BEX in Citys next year if they are still big at that time.

EDIT: The sets won't rotate until after Worlds. So we have all sets until Worlds.

Dark Draggy is still going to be viable after the rotation. Neverland depends on the HL format staying in. with out ATM Rock the deck will lose the main card.

I know that even Rock Lock and others is going to take a huge hit if Hidden Legends is cut off. However I also know that rotations do bring a better game, and I know we have to adapt as that is the beauty of change. We don't know the next rotation, and we shouldn't worry about this. I have said it many times, we need to focus on what we have for Pokemon now and let the worry of the future rest on those who help provide us with these great events.

Since I am on this subject again. It has recently been expressed again, that many do not understand the full purposes of rotations, and why Pokemon does this when in comparisons other TCGs like Yu-gi-oh does not. Well first, I am proud to say I am not playing Yu-gi-oh nor will I. I have plenty of reasons and a rotation of sets for our premiere events is one of them. Here are other thoughts in case any of you have not read them to consider:

There are four very solid reasons to rotate the format. They're not all well liked, but they're very true. Listed in no particular order of importance:

1) Money
PUI is a business. The
Seattle office's primairy resason for existance is to sell cards. Rotating the format ensures that players that want to remain active in the game continue to buy the most recent expansion. Look at it this way, all of the money that PUI makes on an expansion is in the first month or so after its release (I can expand on this if it doesn't make sense to you).

2) Accessibility
As time goes on, it becomes harder and harder to find cards from older sets. Games grow stagnant without new players entering the fold. It becomes increasingly difficult to attract those players when they have to buy sets that are 2+ years old to have a shot at being competative. Do you really expect us to tell a new player that he needs to shell out $500 to pick up the singles that he needs to build a deck because a chunk of the cards come from sets that have been out of print for 3 years?

3) Balance
Every time cards are added to an environment the chance that an unbalancing combo will be created increases exponentially. By removing older cards from the environment, you can reduce the number of these combos that exist. For a good example of this, try playing a little Unlimited.

4) Creativity
Cycling cards requires players to rethink deck construction. The game stagnates when players auto-add the same cards to their deck because they feel they can't win without them (Rare Candy, Pidgeot, etc). By removing cards from the environment, players' deck building skills are constantly tested. Do you really want to keep playing a game where you never have to rethink your strategy?

Also here are other commonly asked questions:

But I can't afford the new cards, what should I do?
There are plenty of options to get your hands on the new cards. Trading is one of your strongest ways to get your hands on these cards. There are many trainers with new cards who would love to get their hands on the old cards.

Its not fair that players who have been in this game for 3, 4, 5+ years to have to remake their decks.
Yes, however if you want to remain as a dedicated player to a TCG you really have to dedicate to supporting the business, otherwise what good is it for them to run OP if not to support the business. Mike Liesik explains this all to well in his first reason.

they will probably do FRLG on, it seemed almost like a base set type deal, making it a good cut.

all lightning players will feel the blow if both dragon and hidden ledgens leaves...there goes amphy ex, magneton(magnetic field) and mass destruction electrode...my deck stretegy in every lightning deck will die

The rumor is that the next modified format will be HL-on. However, this format change will not happen until after Worlds is done. Just like last year; the format wasn't changed from EX-on to RS-on until after Worlds.

I hope they take out HL, I mean Rock-Lock is powerful, and if HL is stays it will stay. last thing we need is that. I really hope it is FRLG on, the game will be better off.

I hope it's HL-on... because I really want Walrein to stay, as well as other great pokemon like Lanturn, Gorebyss, Jirachi, and Metagross.

HL also had very balanced EX's that I like a lot (registeel, ninetales, wigglytuff, metagross)..

And good trainers (Steven's Advice, Magnetic Storm, Ancient Tomb, Island Cave).

Yes, the presence of ATM Rock is chilling at best, but we do need a card like that if a card like Rare Candy is to exist in the metagame. There needs to be balance there... if they eliminate ATM Rock but reprint Rare Candy, insane decks like BAR will dominate again simply because they'll be able to get their insane setup ridiculously easily. C'mon... nobody in their right mind would think that the original BAR (with Ampharos) could work without 4 Rare Candy.

WTH. If HL goes they'll destroy Rock, they didn't destroy blaze w/ this rotation, so why destroy rock with the next one??

becuase they would have had less sets, and R/S is like a base set type thing. So they cycled out everything before it. FRLG is like another base set thing, so logic tells us that after worlds it will be FRLG on.

And Rock Lock does need to be taken out.
