Tournament Format
Players will compete in four rounds of Ruby and Sapphire Game Boy Advanced Battle Tower Format play and then two rounds of Ruby and Sapphire Trading Card Game Sealed Deck play. Players receive 4 points for each TCG win, 1 point for each TCG draw, 2 points for each GBA win. No points are awarded for losses in the TCG or GBA portions.
No cards are required. All you need to bring is a Game Boy Advanced or Game Boy Advanced SP. At the start of the event, players will receive six boosters of Pokemon-e TCG EX: Ruby and Sapphire to construct a forty card deck. Players then have thirty minutes to build their forty card deck. Energy Cards will be supplied for deck construction. Judges will be helping all of those who have never played or constructed a Pokemon TCG Deck.
Tournament Structure
First round will be the TCG sealed deck that you constructed, using age-modified swiss pairings. Players will have 30 minutes to complete the first round, with each player putting out 4 Prize cards.
Second & third rounds will feature the "Battle Tower" format for the Game Boy Advanced. Players will have 10 minutes to complete each round.
• 3 Pokemon of level 50 or lower.
• No two of the same Pokémon.
• Groudon, Kyogre, and Rayquaza are banned.
• No duplicate held items.
• Certain powers (Rest, Recover, etc) are not allowed after 8 minutes into the match.
• "Modified" GBA cartridges are not allowed.
Fourth round returns to final TCG portion of the tournament.
Fifth & sixth rounds players will use the GBA for those rounds.
Tournament Prizes
Prizes are awarded to the top players in each age category, reflecting the age categories of 15+ years, 11-14 years, and 10 years & under.
We’re really excited about our prize package for these events. We’ll be providing Pokemon-e TCG: EX Ruby & Sapphire product, Ruby & Sapphire GBA Game Packs as well as a $200 gift certificate to the Pokemon.com e-commerce site --where you can buy any Pokémon item you want!-- and more. In addition, we’ll be holding one random drawings. Such prizes to include a Game Boy Advance SP, both Pokemon Ruby & Pokemon Sapphire games, and a Pokemon Ruby & Sapphire Strategy Guide.
Side Events
At the end of the day, if we have time, we would like to run some booster drafts. If you would like to participate please plan to bring some extra money for that. I don't know the cost yet but it is usually around $12.00.
Food
We will be planning a pizza lunch for those who are interested. If you need lunch please plan on bringing some extra money for that. Otherwise we will be taking a break for lunch and there are plenty of restaurants locally (as well as shopping for parents and siblings).
