Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Except that Syaoran in Cardcaptor Sakura is like, 12 or something, and Syaoran in Tsubasa Chronicle is like 18 (I'm guessing on both, since I can't remember, but the age range is right). Really, Tsubasa shouldn't be dubbed by any company that can't handle it, namely 4Kids or Nelvana. It's a relatively mature series, and likening it too much to Cardcaptor Sakura (a relatively formulaic if highly successful shoujo animé) is a shame, despite that the Tsubasa characters bear striking resemblances and the same names as their Cardcaptor Sakura counterparts.

In all seriousness, I agree. It's a totally different series, even if the characters look exactly like characters from a different dimension...

Actually, now that I think about it, Cardcaptor Sakura really is set in the Tsubasa Chronicle universe, it's just that Cardcaptor Sakura had yet more alternate versions of the cast and was set in a world they don't travel to in Tsubasa Chronicle! :lol:

Well it's not really a "universe" more than a "continuity" containing several universes:tongue: Though prolly a few more years difference, as I'd think they'd age at the same time/rate.

Isn't CLAMP great? :tongue:

Why edit rice balls in the first place, i mean who hasn't eaten at a chinesse resturant and tasted rice balls? Why would a major company waste presious MONEY for such a little thing. It must be a better reason behind it.

Actually, I forget exactly what it was May said, but last Saturday she said something like, "Isn't this cheeseburger great?"

As much as I think I've come to expect 4Kids culturally conditioning kids to believe that American culture is the only good culture in the world... it still surprises me when 4Kids does something so stupid.

I think they're trying to condition kids to belive that American culture is the ONLY culture in the world...

Rice balls at a Chinese resturant, never heard of that one...

Riceballs at a japanese resturant maybe. I've never heard of chinese riceballs ever, even though I'm full blooded chinese.

You have to admit though, 4kids marketing and translation choices have kept them in business. Although I don't condone (I'm more likely to condemn) their choices in translation. They are aiming at a age group that is less likely (although it would be nice to get a little cultural immersion now and then) to understand the cultural references, nor would they really care. Their main demographic is much younger than the people posting on this topic. I can't see a 10 year old to start complaining that the rice balls are called hamburgers.

Think about it, if you went to an anime convention. You rarely see anyone under 12, and even rarer is the pokemon cosplayer. There just isn't enough support to save the dub. Nor is the support enough to help One Piece. I barely saw a couple luffys and a single zoro at a 8,000 person convention last weekend. 4kids has no reason to listen to us.

Kids simply wouldn't care if there was the occasional Japanese cultural reference. At worst, they'd chalk it up as something exclusive to the Pokémon universe. The under 12 age range in general just isn't educated enough to care one way or the other, they'll just sit and watch whatever catches their eye and/or is marketed well enough.

slightly off topic.. but why is it that people like to compair pokemon's popularity to how many people cosplay it at cons? >_>;;

There is the whole "in the pokemon closet" thing, even with some people who are "otaku" o_o

True. Just because I'd go to a con as either Zoisite from Sailor Moon (mainly because I have the perfect hair for it) or Marril from SS (shameless plug etc etc), doesn't mean most people wouldn't be seen dead as such characters.

And don't forget, good Pokemon costumes are hard. Maybe its just me, but if I am going to cosplay, I want to look like the character I am playing. :rolleyes

Oh, and I do mean the actual Pokemon. Otherwise... where's the challenge for Pokemon cosplay? I guess the newest outfits are a little less common for styles... but I don't cosplay (no money + fat guy = extremely difficult).
