Gengar, a beast for Nats??

Im thinking of either manectric or nidoqueen RR to put in my Gengar deck but I cant decide.

Umm...did you read burdn's post? He said power wave kills Gengar.

Nidoqueen/Gengar, or "Mother Gengar" has won a TON of BRs, along with Infernape 4 and Speedrill. Nidoqueen makes it nigh impossible to KO a G'ed Gengar without activating Fainting Spell. Also, as stated above, all these said "Counters" to Gengar's different abilites look a lot easier on a thread then in an actual game. You say Uxie? Gengar says Thxkbai Shadow Room/Crobat. In order to really beat down Gengar, you have to
a) G anything with a power to avoid free prizes
b) Clear hand of Trainers to avoid a Poltergeist OHKO.
c) Find a consistent way around Fainting Spell, made a heck of a lot harder by Nidoqueen.
Most players can do an average of one-two of these things, the only time I saw a guy do all three was when he had an active Flygon SW with an Unown G and a Devoluter with a G'ed benched Claydol and a benched Nidoqueen, keeping his hand at one to two cards. ROFLMAO.

Anyway, to stay on topic, I think Gengar is an excellent choice for Nats, mostly because people walk in with 2 Unown G and think they will be fine.

I think that even with "Nidoqueen" in the deck a good player is going to be able to play around Gengar's Power. I know that in Beedrill they play PlusPower. With Uxie that allows them to place 2 on it and then Psychic Restore for the KO if they have done 90 to it the turn before which is very possible. I expect that Gengar while good and might see play does indeed have trouble with a lot of decks. The reason and major problem I have with it is exactly what everyone says, it is way to flippy. You NEED to flip at least 33% in most match-ups and you need to flip over 50% in others. I think that unless your feel really confident in the deck, (which is a must for any deck choice) that there are better choice out there. I am not saying it isn't the best choice, I am just saying that it a deck that is straight forward and if players know their deck they will know what to do play around it. Most of the time if Gengar doesn't get to flip, it can't win.

Well, I looked at the Japan Nationals and GeChamp won Japan Nats.

Gengar is still top tier, just sableye beats it. Though, Gengar might die before Nats.

Gechamp won Japan Worlds Qualifier in either Juniors or Seniors (the same kid who got 2nd in JR Worlds, dunno if he moved up), and that was with a whole new set out, which will probably revert the meta back to SP. Doesn't say anything.

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

You say Uxie? Gengar says Thxkbai Shadow Room/Crobat.

What kind of point is that? Any player who plays down the Uxie BEFORE they need it to avoid Fainting Spell is awful and shouldn't win against Gengar anyways. You act as if the Uxie will be a bench sitter for ages before it gets to attack. A GOOD player will play it down, retreat the active, and KO with Psychic Restore.

Of course, good players don't actually exist for the purpose of proving your point.

True, it could be a change.

Many ways to play around Gengar. So it might not be BDIF, people overhyped Dialga G, and look what happened to it. I barely see it anymore.

You don't "barely see it" because it was overhyped...you barely see it because RR brought answers for it.

GenQueen is a very great deck. I say that its worst matchup is 50-50 (Gengar Mirror) and it has match-ups close to 90-10. A skilled player can easily outplay an average Gengar player but, a skilled player who faces a skilled Gengar player might have a really tough time. Everyone needs to remember, Fainting Spell is a bonus!!! You should not rely on it to win games. It does help to destroy your opponents. BTW, Queen OMNOMNOMNOMs spread decks IMO.

Are you completely ignoring the existence of dialga G, or rather, SP decks in general when you're thinking of your matchups, smacktack? : \

Stigma: I have tested out all top decks and many rogues (all from great players) and I found that Gengar is equal or has an edge over all of them.

I swear, every time a GOOD card and GOOD deck is made and wins tons of events, people only criticize it and call it "bad." Gengar with techs, such as Nidoqueen and Manetric, is a VERY had deck to beat even with the "Uxie trick" which will NOT knock out the Gengar. Face it, Gengar is Tier 1 and everyone needs to learn how to beat it without activating Fainting Spell, which is hard, but possible.

Funny. Gengar only took 1 spot in Dutch Nationals top cut, where it got killed by Flygon. Dialga, on the other hand, was in 3 or 4 decks. Coincidence? I think not.
