after viewing my Match History, this is whats it shows for my first round from states:

20 903000045 1 1598.06 1600.00 You 0.00 1598.06

zero points?! at a 32k event, idgi...

Maybe you got paired against someone from a different age class? I dont know any other explanation.

This happened to gino lombardi

106903000049 5 1814.07 1600.00 You 0.00 1814.07

I think thats round 5 and i dont think you play seniors round 5...

Well with Gino.. that's going to happen now.. id say if ur 150 points or more above someone you WILL get 0 from winning.. and lose 32 if you lose -.-'
as for the OP.. error, it happens. Email them.

I can explain this, and as the events get larger it happens more often. Someone gets a POP ID wrong (it can be the player putting it down wrong at registration or data entry error). The number that is used is a legitimate number, but belongs to a player outside the age group you're playing in. Everything looks fine at the tournament because the local database has the correct name and age entered, but once the tournament is uploaded the name and age is pulled from the PUI database and oops, you're playing outside your age group.

To get everything corrected, the TO has to track down all those errors, and you can help them by letting them know which round you are showing that you played someone outside your age group. When the tournaments get huge like they are now, it is a real pain to track down all those errors. I have 6 in the Oregon State Championships that I'm working on fixing. It will all get corrected eventually though. Have patience.

so then gino's match is an error? every match must be worth some points, right?

So if you win states do you get extra points for that ?? not only off your win loss ratio

so like i end round nine with a win for states and im at 1784.23 will they give me more points for winning states or is it only off the win loss ratio during it

If the age groups were seperated, yes.
Whenever I load an event, I check the number of JR/SR/MA players that I show vs what shows on the POP website. If the numbers don't match, I know I have an error.

Of course, there could still be errors that just even out, but at least it's a heads up.

With a huge event, like BDS has, it's almost impossible to track down without players giving a heads up.
So, rule of thumb, check your record after an event and see if the matches make sense.

No. Ratings points are looked at match by match. There are more points at stake because States has a higher K-Value, but there is no "bonus" for your ranking within the event.

I think there's been a few issues with this, and it's more along the lines of what BDS was talking about. I know for Idaho states, my R5 match against Karl it showed his rating when we started the match at 1693, which was at least 100 points off and then showed me losing 0 points for losing. Today it was corrected, and Karl finally has his points he should have gained from Idaho and I am down the 12 or so I lost to him.

To amplify what PokePop is advising .
  • contact the TO (email is best!)
  • provide the event id and name
  • provide your name and POP ID
  • the round that you believe has an incorrect opponent
it helps if you can recall the actual opponents name but is not required. The TO may ask you to confirm your date of birth.

Stop beating up on little kids Matt!

Yeah, you should always gain points when winning, according to the K-value formula. For example, check out the 32-K example in the following POP document about ratings:

http://www.go-pokemon.com/op/tournaments/docs/2008-2009/Ratings_and_Rankings_FAQ.pdf

Even if you are 200 points above your opponent, you'll get 7.69 points.

Also, here's what the above document says about 0 rating points:

POP Rating and Rankings FAQ said:
Why did I receive zero (0) points for a match?

The most frequent reason that a player would receive no rating points for a match is due to cross-age division matches in an Age Modified tournament. Over the years, POP has found that a significant portion of players who play a match against an opponent in an age group above their own lose that match. This means that even a highly rated Junior player is at a severe ratings risk and disadvantage when playing against a Senior player. To help maintain the integrity of the ratings system, cross-age division matches don’t count toward either player’s rating.

In addition to cross-age division matches, players who receive a bye or forced loss (due to late arrival to an event) do not gain or lose rating points for those rounds, as no match was played.

yeah there's some issue with the uploading of states for some reason. give it some time :/
Wouldn't be surprised with all those people and pop IDs.

No, don't just wait. If you see zero point matches, ask questions.
With such large events, help the TO help you.
Alert them to the issue.
Bear in mind that it wasn't malicious and don't worry about who's "fault" it is.
Just give the info Nopoke outlines and help get it fixed.
