Anyone else noticed that Lugia is finally a W type, and a gorgeous one at that?

Now let's cross our fingers and pray for a Great Tyranitar and Umbreon...

EDIT: OH GEEZ, I just realized that ensures we are getting the Arceus in our next set. They wouldn't fit in with G/S Pokemon, and they have LV. X's which are being replaced. Yay for no delays due to stupid movies!

Oh. My. Gosh. This is awesome! The card layout is terrible, but the artwork is great! The LEGEND artwork is insanely amazing.

I am very bothered by this. I quite enjoyed the childish looks to the cards and then I see that Ho Oh ... what is going on there?

It looks dumb and they should keep the words straight it just looks awful. When I first saw they were going to be doing fusion stuff I went o_O.

Makes me want to quit..lol

Maybe the 2 part card mechanic was so that the "Legend" part of the HGSS set could be emphasized with "legendary" looking pictures. Of course, try fitting a "legendary"/art gallery picture into the standard picture frame. So with the 2-part card mechanic, they could make the legends look awesome and legendary-looking, AND at the same time be playable instead of dumbed down legendaries. I just can't wait until Celebi LEGEND. Imagine that one.

Rage is going to make a come back, just wait, they are going to print something with Rage as an attack in HGSS, I also like that we can get stage 2 decks back without being outspeeded by everything else.

It could also be so that they don't feel so restricted with Legendary Pokémon abilities. Since Legendary Pokémon tend to be by nature high HP Basics, they have to give them mediocre attacks so that they don't overwhelm the game (see Pokémon-SP, or the VS set they appear to be based on). Since Pokémon-LEGEND are so much more difficult to play, they can give much more Legend-worthy abilities. While Ho-oh LEGEND is indeed another Base Set Charizard knock-off, it's not an evolution, and has the most cost-effective 100 damage move in the game. The only other card I knew of that had a consistent 4 Energy for 100 with such a low cost was Salamence-d, and it was a Stage 2 that required you to discard Metal energy in a time before Basic Metal energy existed. And you have to admit, Ho-oh LEGEND is far superior to Rainbow Wing Ho-oh. And Elemental Blast Lugia with its own Energy acceleration definitely beats out yet another Aeroblast Lugia.

Well, but salamence-d also had HRT to provide metal energies, so that really wasn't a problem.
I would say that they also slow down the game a lot if they reprinted Pokemon Breeder instead of Rare Candy for speeding stage 2 decks up, as that would make gatr donks less probable (think: dile, gatr, rare candy, 4 waters. GG if you have 1 weak basic.)

Windstorm was 2 sets after DS, but yeah it could get rid of HRT.
I must wait to see which they reprint: Pokemon Breeder or Rare Candy, and also what the special rules regarding the "Great" Pokemon that only seem to be stage 2's so far (it could just be the new name for stage 2's lol).

It's disappointing that they've dropped lvX so quickly. More lvX Pokemon could have given the mechanic so much more variety.

I can't wait. IMO we are going to see the rise of the old power decks again. I really have missed the days of metanite/rgon/LBS.
What a minute. You call Metanite, R-Gon, and LBS "old" power?

Man, so the decks of my day, Zapturndos, RAMBO, Entei/Magcargo, and Riptide Feraligatr must be "ancient" power decks.

Not sure why everyone is having a fit about the Great cards. They are (as far as we can tell) exactly like normal Pokemon, just called "Great".

As for Legends, I like the mechanics. Sounds fun. As for the card art and design... Ho-Oh looks like a furbee with a bird head, and Lugia's is okay I guess. What I REALLY don't like is the mis-aligned text. I don't like that AT ALL.

Why do they always have terrible art on their good cards? EX's and LV. X's had that ugly, stiff 3d art, now Legends have ugly brushy, "realistic" art. Just makes it look way bad. I hope some day they realize that the traditional art is probably best.

What about the Original Rain Dance (Base to Fossil) or the Classic Charizard or Chanseyzam stall?
They must be relics.

I call for mew and celebi LEGEND to be in the same set, like in the ilex forest or somekind of forest location. That would be cool. And now that I think about it Lugia looks like a beast of the sea or something and ho-oh looks like an ancient painting of a mythological creature. Maybe celebi could be like the fairy of the forest or something.

not true zephyr, the base logic of 3 DQ's given at nats where because of the fact that if the deck is played with the top facing you and the cards closer to the top the diffrence in the borders can be seen

To say nothing of Haymaker. I feel old now.

Anyway, I guess it's really too early to make any further judgments yet, only 16 of 140 cards have been revealed, plus the promos. I did notice though that wherever Resistance was actually given, it was always -20. Balancing issues, I guess?

I have to disagree strongly. The artwork on the Legend cards is just AMAZING. I love the misaligned text, the realistic artwork, the two-card thing. These are the first cards I'll be trading for just to collect. I know everyone has their own opinions, but what did you want instead? More play-doh Pokemon art?

I have a feeling people at the card shops who don't play Pokemon will be stopping and asking what game I'm playing when I throw down that LEGEND Lugia. "Whoa, this thing is a Pokemanz?! This thing looks insane! What does it do?"

Edit: Also, another thing I think is important about the "realistic" depiction of the LEGEND Pokemon is that it might, possibly, maybe, just could be hinting towards a more "adult" look to this trading card game that so many 15 and up players support.

I'm just annoyed by the lack of levels. Level X cards are one thing, but having levels was nice to let you differentiate between different cards of the same name.

Oh God, I hate that play-doh art work. It's just terrible.

I love the new art and stuff. I'm a little concerned with bench space, though. How are we going to fit 4 normally benched Pokemon and a sideways card? There's barely room for 5 regular spaces on a play mat...

I am... Torn on this.

On one hand:

-The Legends look AMAZING in terms of artwork and power.
-The 'Great' Pokemon seem to be rehashes of older cards that worked. I'm sad about Typhlosion, but I'm content with Feraligatr and Meganium (which bring back the Base Set's concepts). The only reason Typhlosion is a (worse) knock-off of itself from MT is because of the fact that Ho-Oh has Charizard's power.
-Possibility of collectible energies is a plus.

On the other hand...

-The Legend Mechanic does not look like a suitable replacement for the Level X Mechanic (which will be sorely missed).
-The major return of x2 Weakness doesn't appeal to me at all.
-Feraligatr looks like the only playable Great Pokemon for the coming format that we have translated.
-Pokemon whose effects/attacks pertain to Level X's (Steel Arceus, for Example) will become useless.
-'Goods/Items' replacing 'Trainers' just adds to the confusion of 'What is considered a Trainer,' a problem I foresee in PL-on if this remains this way.
-I do not like the way the text is placed in the Legends Cards, but it may look better when proper translation occurs.
-I don't like being so close to the faces of Great Pokemon, in spite of their artwork...

All-in-all, I don't like this. I'll probably stick with the Platinum Series when the format shifts unless something amazingly broken comes in the HG/SS LEGEND sets. This doesn't look like a good thing, overall, and is such a discomforting change in the game that it might drastically affect the number of players.
