Houndoom. Is he playable?

I want to make a Houndoom deck, but I am debating if I should make a deck with straight Houndoom or run him with another line of Pokemon. Listed below are my reasons why I think running Houndoom with or without other Pokemon could help or break the deck.

If I run straight Houndoom: He is more efficient for a turn two deck, but I mulligan like crazy so I will need to run 4 Wager. Problem with that- Wager is unreliable. So I will need to win Wager to shut my opponent down. I will have various trainers like Celio and Quick ball to help make the deck stay true to its turn two nature.

If I run Houndoom with some other Pokemon: I think I will get out played by stronger decks like GG and in reality; I don't have a clue who to play Houndoom with. The advantage is- the other Pokemon I play will work with my 4 Multi energy and 4 DRE combo (allows Houndoom to discard those energy to get both effects of Black fire)- and will make my deck mulligan less.

So what are your thoughts? If you can help me jump start this deck I would greatly appreciate it.

I'd wait till the Japan DP5 Houndoom is out if I were you. Houndoom, as it is now, just isn't worth it. The DP5 Houndoom can do 100 for 2. I believe you had to have less pokemon in play, IIRC.

The things that I like about doom are that he's fast, resistant to Psychic Lock, has an OK weakness, and the 90 HP.

What I don't like is that to use him right you pretty much have to build your deck around him. You need the T2 like setup ... but also need to be able to deal with the constant energy discards.

Someone posted a deck like that a while back. Think their list had either Darkrai or Weavile or maybe both too. I was thinking more along the lines of delcatty ex. Maybe a 1-1 tech line or a 2-2/1 Delcatty/Delcatty ex line.

Add Darkrai and Weavile, they help set u up and Darkrai powers u up. I'd play 1-1 Darkrai/X and 2-2 or 3-3 Weavile(SW).

I just don't know why anyone would opt for houndoom over banette or magmortar as a counter to GG lol.

No one was saying that here. I just like Houndoom and I think he can beat most decks out there. If you read my ideas you would know what I mean by playing Houndoom by himself can be bad.

How about typhlosion to get the fire energy back if discarded, also to counter any deck that use special energy....?

I've just been playing it straight with a 2-2 line of claydol for mid-late game consistency. In timed swiss rounds you can get wins against mags and G&G if they don't get a perfect start..just flash back to dark slowking for optimal play style ... Top Cut - no way..... Yeah, houndour is really bad.... auto poison would be nice....

I'm just talking about playing this deck in real life. The metagame is completely dominated by GG. You must either run it or have a deck that will beat it (or... counter it. the two best decks for that are magmortar and banette, hence what I said).

i runned a houndoom deck for regionals here in Norway, and the metagame here is dominated by Gallade. And i got 4th with my houndoom list. And i im playing it with 4-4 Houndoom, 2-2 claydol and Minun. And that list works very well at least for me.
