Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Houston, Texas Regionals - TWO DAY event

Lookin' good boys and girls, knocking out all the prep work to get Regionals rockin'.

I've been telling out of town players that I couldn't find any great deals on hotels but it seems not to be a problem. It sounds like a lot of players will be staying in The Woodlands area since the playoffs are in Oak Ridge North (across the highway from TW) on Sunday. The good thing about this is that The Woodlands is on the way back home for the Dallas / Ft. Worth and Oklahoma players.

Just Google hotels for The Woodlands and or Shenandoah, Texas. This is basically 18 miles north of the Race Park and along I-45. Google hotels in 77064 if you want close to the Race Park.

Safe areas:

The Woodlands area
Shenandoah, next to TWs
Spring area (5 miles south of TWs), towards Houston
Willowbrook Mall area (10 minutes west of the park)
Cypress area (just west of the park)

Places to stay away from:

Greenspoint area (5 miles east of the Race Park, on I-45). Not a good area.
Best Western On Beltway 8 (1/2 a mile from the Race Park). Very bad reviews.
I-45 North (anywhere between FM 1960 and Houston)

I-HOP in The Woodlands has offered their banquet room for Pokemon players on Friday night between 6:00 pm & 11:00 pm. They only ask that you purchase something. I told them that most players and parents would do so. What do y'all think about that? Yes or No? The room can hold about 40 players comfortably.

Are local players invited too?

Well of course they are, everyone is welcome. I know a few people might hit Jen's place but the problem with that is that she closes around 8:00ish. The travelers want more time to sit, relax, and get some battling in, along with a decent meal.

So I had some free time this morning and I decided to add Pokemon stickers to all the table numbers, a different Pokemon for each division. It really adds to the numbers.

Geez, the things I do for y'all. :)

Barring any additional complications with D's Heart and Brain..... there might be a Fish sighting at Regionals... the Doctor's will have to give the release of course!:thumb:

Here's some information if y'all decide to do something non Pokemon on Friday or Saturday night, or Sunday afternoon.

Question about States.

There was a guy there buying and selling cards and he was also at Oklahoma States. How was he? Are you interested in dealing with him again? Please don't be rude if there was something negative, just simply say you wouldn't be interested. You can pm me any complaints. I don't want any bashing on here. Feel free to express your opinion if your interactions were positive.

ANYONE willing to buy cards (bulk OR singles) would be awesome IMO.

Being able to sell cards at an event helps justify paying to travel that far anyway (one of the big reasons Nats is always so fun is because you can nearly pay for your trip with what you sell), so it's definitely a plus if there's a card vendor.

Mike,
Just to let you know, the guy you're talking about wasn't there in any official capacity and I only heard about him when the SEF started. I do know he was interested in doing it at Texas States.

So, he didn't have permission, he just showed up? It sounds like he did the same at Texas States.

Hello everyone! My name is Jon Moore, and I am posting this to hopefully clear up any misconceptions. I am the person who was at the Oklahoma States purely to buy/trade/sell and not to play. My older brother was also buying at the event, but I believe Old Man is talking about me as I did attempt to make contacts for the upcoming PKMN Regional. I would have loved to vend at Oklahoma states, but did not know who to contact for this.
This was my first pokemon premiere event. I did not bring vending cases or anything like that, and was told by several people (including a professor) that buying and selling pokemon singles openly should be fine and that there wouldn't be a problem with it (otherwise I would not have been doing it!). I managed to spend a substantial amount that I was pleased with, and would love to bring my cash and cards, as well as my vending cases, to this event and set up a booth. I think it would benefit players traveling from afar by easing traveling expenses, as well as help anybody trying to complete a deck before the tourney to compete at their top level. I would like to add to the experience of this premier event, and have vended at many premier events in the past under Upper Deck while they were involved with Yu-Gi-Oh.

I already plan on seeing your brother Joel at regionals, so hopefully the two of you will be able to actually vend for this event.
Not that it matters what I say, but I've dealt with both Jon and Joel, and both are extremely easy to work with, and will buy cards on par with any website you can find (especially Troll&Toad). Plus, they deal with you face to face, and being as they're not some huge corporate giant (YET) trying to screw people out of their cards, they're excellent in dealing with people one-on-one.
I hope they're allowed to to provide their services at regionals, and allow people to make some fair deals over a long weekend of playing.

We already have a store for Regionals and we've been in contact with Jon & Joel and we're considering them as another vendor.

Without permission from me, no one is allowed to come in and buy and sell ANYTHING, and that goes for players as well.

That will be understood Mr. Cook. I really hope I get the opportunity to impress you and the players with our professionalism, card base, and ability to buy cards at sensible prices. I understand why you might not want to deal with having a vendor in running an event because the purpose of this event from a Tournament Organizer's point of view is to have the event run as smoothly as possible, and dedicating extra space and time to a vendor might take time out of your day. I can assure you we will be self-sufficient, and only need a space of two tables, and will be an attraction to the players.

If you have any specific questions or concerns about this that need to be addressed to me, please contact me via PM Mr. Cook.

I was planning on trying to find these guys and sell $200 or so in cards (look for me). I saw them be fair to someone who sold them a lot of cards. And they seemed like stand up guys in every way. Even if they are not allowed to be vendors, please at least allow them to at least be able to review our card books and purchase the ones they want.

These guys are great. They have been very polite and generous with their offers. I hope that they can soon sell cards as well so that we will see these guys for years to come. So far all I have seen is them buying and trading. I will have many cards for them as usually.
