How to beat the Deck above you...

A great way to grow as a player and become a champion is to understand as many deck strategies and card combos as you possibly can (so there are no surprises!).

There's NO WAY many of us have time to build out EVERY tournament deck, play it, and become familiar with it. Let's put our heads together and learn gain some insight that we would not have otherwise acquired. Shall we?

If people actually take this thread seriously, we'll ALL learn alot from each other.
(please.. spare us your jokes. Please, only post if you're contributing to the activitity.)

OK.... HERE'S WHAT YOU DO:

1. Reply to the post Above Yours with a Deck that beats the one listed above yours.
2. Give a quick "HOW"/strategy to beat that deck.

Here's an example of THREE Posts (one after the other)

For example:

________________

Magnmortar X / Heatran / Stark Mountain - SW/LA
________________

^^^^ post above is MagX

Post 2:

Kingdra - Legends Awakened

Build fast and abuse weakness.
Use Claydol to set up multiple backup Kingdras
Regice/Lunatone to toss energy into discard to one shot MagX when it comes.

Post #3:

^^^^ post above is Kingdra

Ampharos/ Manectric - Platinum

Spread w/ Manectric and shut off their Clayols, Regice, and Lunatone with Ampharos' body.
This delays the builds of backup Kingdras and keeps energy out of discard
Kindra's Weakness makes all attacks stronger.

Those are common responses. However, once this gets going, I hope that we start getting some LESS obvious combos/matchups.

If you guys really contribute (and not just argue or put up corny/meaningless banter), then this thread will be an INVALUABLE learning tool for everyone.

RULE #1 - Stay out if you're not going to participate.

Telling someone they're wrong will make others afraid to contribute.
Keep your disagreements to yourself.

Rule #2 - You ARE allowed to question/comment on someone's matchup IF you leave YOUR contribution first ...

Rule #3 - Legal Modified decks only

Example...

To GenericPoster123: I think you overlooked the fact that you'll need 7 energies for the first attack and your opponents is attacking for 0 energy on T1 for 100 damage.

I'll GET US STARTED WITH THIS DECK
(next person, counter it...)

DECK #1

SKUNTANK / MIGHTYENA - Platinum

By T2, poison with Skuntank and attack for 80 w/ Mightyena.
Speed and ease of setup makes it easy to keep bench size small and backup attacker ready to go.

^^^ deck above was Regigigas

Deck #3

Ampharos/ Manectric
- Platinum

Spread w/ Manectric and shut off their Clayols and Sacrifice with Ampharos' body.

Drop a Galactic HQ stadium to damage Regi upon hitting the table.
This kills Regi's powers for healing and speedy energy attachements without even attacking!

Once the mesprit drop is over, drop my Uxies and get the ball rolling.

comment: Yeah, I just totally borrowed from myself.. LOL! Thanks for getting it going Bippa!

Deck #3

Machamp - Stormfront

Abuse Weakness and out-speed them. Hopefully they didn't get Mr. Unown G out in time.

Deck #4

Toxicroak G / Skuntank G
- Platinum

Use your immunity to Take Out and hit them for weakness. Use Dialga G lv. X to make Machamp lv. X largely useless ... except when YOU want to abuse it! As you can use Poketurn to pick Dialga back up letting you get the extra damage while they didn't.

^^^^ Deck above was Toxicroak/Skuntank

Deck #4

Empoleon/Giratina
- Platinum

Snipe the Skuntanks to disable the poison.

Leafeon lvx Majestic Dawn, attack with Leaf Guard to protect yourself against damage done by empoleon with resistance.

^^^^ Deck above was Blaziken /Heatran

Deck #7

Scizor SF w/ Shaymin LvX

I don't think Blaizken can set up fast enough to bring down the speedy Scizor + 40 hp!

Strategy is to use that Shaymin X to offset weakness issue.
Then just outspeed FTW

At best, they'll only get up ONE Blaziken and the rest will be undeveloped pawnage.

^ Deck above was Scizor SF w/ Shaymin LvX

Deck # 8

Regigigas w/ Dialga G Lv X

Regigigas Lv X can easily tear through Scizor once their HP is back down to 100, whereas Scizor needs to sac 2 of their guys to take down Gigas. Gigas wins in an enchange of arms.

How to beat gigas with gigas.

The first one that can get mesprit down wins. If you can keep the lock on you are garenteed the win because they can't get powered up or even lock you. Plus they will never be able to get gigas out because palkia brings it up and you kill it iwth your gigas. Just keep the lock though because if they get set up and they lock you you lose.

^ Deck above was Blastoise/Delcatty w/ Dialga G Lv X

Deck # 12

Leafeon/Electivire

Leafeon's resistance to Blastoise as well as Electivire hitting the weakness of Stoise makes for a relatively one sided matchup.

Deck above was Kingdra;

Dusknoir/Lumineon. Punish Kingdra for its bench full of Uxies and other useless tech with Dark Palm. Night Spin to tank a Stormfront Dusknoir against whatever Kingdras they manage to get set up.

Deck above was Dusknoir/Lumineon.

Regigigas: Unaffected by Night Spin. Gigas already runs lots of Unknwon G. Comboed with Sacrafice, Dark Palm isn't much of a threat. Mesprit locks take a harsh toll on Noir as well.

Ha, Gigas has come up too many times.

Deck above was Regigigas. Defeated by Ampharos with Dusknoir tech to scoop Dialga G Lv. X. Regigigas is worthless without its precious powers!
