Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

How to Solve the Tropical Beach Dilemma. (And maybe create a more enjoyable game?)

What part of " DO NOT REPRINT THIS CARD" was I not clear on?

what difference does it make? i'll give you that they probably won't reprint it because it's not gettin super abused, but it's not they haven't done this sort of thing before. uxie, azelf, bts, claydol, dialga g lv.x, and that's only in these past two years. i'm sure they've done it before. so just cuz you don't want them to reprint it doesn't mean anything.

Also, question: I noticed that Tropical Beach's promo number is 28. Is it common for Worlds promos to have vastly higher numbers than their contemporaries? For example, #s 19-22 just came out recently, so it leads me to believe that its collector number is meant to correspond with the Worlds deck releases.

No speculation...Just interesting they did that. I hope it actually amounts to something meaningful.

P.S. A good home-grown solution to the Tropical Beach problem is for players to just work together and loan them out in exchange for collateral.

I seem to recall last years promo also being highly numbered in comparison with the current ones. I don't think it actually means anything related to it being a promo in the decks.

^This is a brilliant solution.

Surely there are enough Beaches in circulation for this. If the community works together, then there's no need for people to be paying stupid amounts of money for these cards.

I wish they would allow us to use the Tropical Beach cards of other languages =/ I'm fluent in Portuguese and would love to be able to use it in tournaments.. but alas, I do my tournaments in the US.

Yeah, that could be fixed. How many Americans speak Spanish, yet can't use Spanish cards?

I think that the world outside of Japan should be able to use any language cards other than Japanese. TPCI is responsible for the whole of the non-JPN TCG so it wouldn't be losing sales to people buying JPN cards.

The different languages aren't really a problem in Europe and it's not like all of us speak each other's language or anything.

Very bad idea. Cards like Weavile, Sharpedo, even Judge, etc. would instantly become unplayable. Would be horrible for the game.

I do agree that there needs to be something done about Tropical Beach, though this is 100% not it.

I'm not in favor of it either but I don't think it would be "horrible" for the game, just unnecessary.

I've never played against A Tropical Beach but it's not the end of the game.

None of the cards you listed would become instantly unplayable, it would still up to the player to decide to use it or not. And they couldn't use it until after your turn ends. Weavile has you discard the card, Sharpedo needs to two heads and Judge would only give them a return of 3 cards on their turn AFTER your turn.

"Horrible" and "instantly ... unplayable" are a little over the top, IMO.

Wait until Reshiram EX comes out, tank decks are no longer viable, and Beach is worthless.
When Reshiram ex is there, all the tank Pokémon have 180 HP.

And about the topic, allowing all languages (except for Japanese) for that card in any country would probably work. After all, it's a Worlds promo, which everyone got in different languages. In Europe it's still expensive but effortable if you don't buy the English one.

High-HP Pokémon ≠ tank deck.

Playing the EXs with Reuniclus would just be stupid.

lol why? There's no problem with that, unless they have a popular weakness.

If you're playing Reuniclus, you need to play Vileplume. If you're playing EXs, you'll probably need to play energy acceleration. I doubt people can fit Reuni/Vileplume/energy acceleration in the same deck.

I dont understand the reason behind this arguement since Tropical Beach is not found in every single winning deck nor will it be a huge factor in determining the outcome at Regionals. TB is not like Luxray X or Uxie X which were super expensive cards but were needed to win. TB is not needed to win.

Personally I like having exclusive cards in the game cause the players from worlds have earned that card and should be allowed to use it without anyone else having it unless ppl who didn't earn it are willing to pay for it cause it is technically a trophy card

That's like saying when victory medal was worth a decent price should they have made it easy to get?

Except, Victory Medal WAS easy to get. Winning a Battle Road really wasn't a tough thing to do until this year came about.

I'm all in favor of making Tropical Beach a little less exclusive. Two of the best decks in the format right now have to run it in order to actually work, Now, while it's not a necessity, as there are other deck choices, those two decks are far too costly to run, which limits the options of everyone that can't obtain Tropical Beach. I myself cannot see why it would be an issue to make a reprint of it, as they have reprinted a Worlds promo in the past - Tropical Wind from Worlds 2004 - and it was near unplayable.

I get that some want to keep it exclusive, as those that earned it can treasure and feel like they've actually earned something worthwhile. I can relate to the feeling; however, I don't feel that this one card should be kept exclusive because it was a Worlds promo. Everyone should have the chance to obtain even one, so as to level the playing field.

You don't NEED acceleration. The whole point of running an EX would be to survive a 150 damage attack, which is one of the reasons SEL is so good in Ross.dek because it can survive RDL. SEL needed two turns of dedicated attachments: a Rainbow/Fire + DCE (3 if you're anticipating Typh Prime or getting ready to Torrent Blade).

Besides, your whole point rests on the fact that Reshiram EX will make tank decks useless. Reshiram can't even OHKO a SEL, while SEL can lay in with 160 damage [DEL]or even 200[/DEL]. edit But 160 is enough to KO if Reshi flipped tails on its 150 attack /edit

In any case, if a deck needed something easier to get out than SEL and decided to run an EX, almost all of them get along fine without energy accel. A colored energy + DCE gives Kyurem/Reshiram/Zekrom access to their practical attacks (You're not trying to go for the big attacks, I mean the purpose of the card would simply be to endure 150 damage). Kyurem can KO Reshi with a water + DCE if Reshi flipped tails. Then there's Gigas which is good to go as long as you have DCE's (A beast with Reuniclus if you're reaching for a game changing KO.), and Mewtwo never caps which makes it a monster in a deck where it's never allowed to be KO'd. Heck, even after a single DCE, Mewtwo is already doing 120 to Reshiram EX.

SEL can't can't hit Reshi ex for 200. TB only attacks the bench.

The whole point of running an EX isn't to survive a 150 damage attack... it's to use a 150 damage attack.

And the problem with tank decks won't be that they won't have attackers that can survive a hit (Tyranitar and Legends are the only ones I'm aware of that can take a hit from Reshi EX, though). It's that you're not going to be able to stand up to a 150-per-turn onslaught with just Reuniclus and, like... Blissey. Four turns of that is 600 damage on the board, which you're going to have to deal with pretty creatively if you have any chance of winning.

Aaaand... Fliptini will be played in Reshiram EX, making it unlikely that it will take any recoil.

What are these two best decks that require it?
