I called brighthouse and they said that it was a network wide problem, but wouldn't tell me specifics.
When I think about the question, it seems ridiculous. Of course google wasn't down, but I couldn't figure out anything that would block ONLY that on MY end.
It would be nearly impossible for Google to be down... they have like 5 copies of their cached data, and like a zillion data server farms across the world (actually they have spare capacity for future growth).
