Is Gyarados a Suicide Play for States?

ErikNance is worried because his Tank Steelix deck loses to Lostgar. You guys also forget Gengar can lost multiple pokez at once. Plus Powerlock doesn't really hurt the deck, oh man you're binding 2 uxie...dang. I don't know what the meta is like down under but seeing AMU and KingPhan making top 4 makes me wonder...

Erik hasn't even played Steelix in a tournament this season. He's been posting really good information on the Pokegym, it would be great if he wasn't forced to keep defending his opinion all the time.

For what it's worth, if you want more proof of Lostgar performing poorly, apparently it wasn't very popular or successful at the European Challenge Cup today with 193 people in the Masters division. Lostgar has too many fundemental flaws to be playable right now, completely overhyped.

eriknance is one of the very few people posting sense about Lostgar.

Someone like him isn't going to cry over a pet deck, that's ridiculous.

If people don't want to listen cos Lostgar is THEIR pet deck, it's their loss.

And I don't think Gyarados players need to worry about Devoluter. It's not a silver bullet, it's a 2HKO that Gyarados can play around with ease (like it has always done).

Can you please stop being an idiot? Steelix beat Lostgar, no matter what as it is proven. Steelix only have like what, very little Pokemon, and will just tankroll you for game dealing 130 damage a turn, 1HKO your 3 gengars over 3 turns and you will more likely NOT recover, at all.

Eric Nance did play steelix this season at Cities. I was there, and I saw him at the top tables with it.

nope because steelix easil kills a gengar and you cant hurl into darkness because we got blissey pl. and you do cursed drop. nurse call and moo moo milk

why would i record matches of private playtesting to a random on the internet?

Excuse me? Don't call me a random. I am a long time veteran who have been on the forum since the beginning and played Pokemon since the start and I also have nice and solid connections with other veterans (most of them are big names all over the US).

In fact, I am seriously offended by the fact you said it. Anyways, to speak for the truth - 20 mins one game to hurl 6 pokemon in the LZ and declare game is in most case, unbelievable to many. Alot of people said and stated the fact that Gengar cannot win a 30 mins game plus 3 turns due to the fact that most decks will be taking prizes, disrupting you and the like which would take up more time than you think...Unless you are both playing fast, which I doubt to expect that at a Premier event just because Lostgar have now became way too easy to play around. Look at the list, shall we?

1) Dialgachomp. They defean lock, heal, poison, snipe you. They will take it to time and win on prizes. There is no way around that for Lostgar to take prizes, since their only out is sniping 40 damage and they will more than likely heal them off in a pinch easily via Warp Point and Garchomp C X combo.

2) Luxchomp. One of the most even matchups but it is all down to teching, and the player's knowledge.

3) Gyarados. It is more difficult for Lostgar to pull out a win versus this matchup due to the deck's speed, large damage output and its discard engine.

4) Steelix. That deck oneshoot everything in its path. No exceptions. Plus more lists are starting to run less Pokemon than you may think.

5) Vilegar. Trainer lock may prevent them from hiding their own pokemon but hey, they can disrupt you and they will go like, Poltergiest for prizes every turn while you cannot use your own trainers and the like. I am sure most Vilegar nowadays have a tech specifically to discard Pokemon.

6) Sableye Lock: Disruption and weakness hurts Lostgar BADLY, especially if they have Honchkrow set up and ready to destroy you in one hit every turn.

7) Machamp: They take prizes, which Lostgar don't.

So yeah... Overteching a Lostgar will obviously destroy your consistency, which enables the opposing deck to have higher odds of getting EASIER prizes off you. Plus, using a Vileplume would slow down the deck, which is bad for the timed format - especially in best of 3. Lastly, Lostgar cannot afford to waste a turn on doing anything else but Hurling. And that's all.

I stand by the fact that Lostgar will only win a WEAK metagame, Like in the middle of nowhere such as Hawaii, or Alaska or even New Zealand.

Based on what I have seen, my thinking is the following. If you expect to face more than 2 Gengar I would avoid playing it. If you expect to face less than that, go for it. I feel that Gyarados can beat everything consistently except for Gengar. That is hands down it's hardest matchup. If you avoid it then you will be fine, if you don't than I would have to agree that it is asking to do poorly at States.

Look dude, you're going around calling people "kid" and taking this topic personally. Calm down. You're making yourself look ridiculous talking about your "connections" and getting offended over nothing. You shouldn't be taking offense so easily on a Pokémon forum.

Or Australia? You might be proud being #1 in Australia, but when none of the competition plays enough to get over 1650, I somehow doubt the meta is all that strong there.

Erik Nance would not be so petty as to go on Pokégym and throw a fit over a pet deck. However, I can think of a few people who would...

When two big egos argue about how great their decks are, logic gets the short end of the stick.

I could care less about LostGar, I'm just trying to make a point that if you run Ts2-Devoluter you beat Gdos, consistently to boot. If a Lost Gar player wants to stand a chance they need to run 2 Devoluter in their builds to beat Gyarados. Ts2-Devoluter is an amazing tech against any evolution based deck as well, it's a great card and even a greater Tech.

I love how this is a Gyarados thread and everyone is talking about lostgar while mostly excluding Gyarados. so....

Does Gyarados Beat luxchomp?
If not, how can you improve the matchup?
What should the Gyarados player try to do?

give uuuufff's article a read, he outlined everything for that matchup.

It's almost hilarious that you post this because werent you the one trying to ban me on another forum for not giving away my "secret techs?" Sounds like a real veteran to me.

Mime Jr. is coming for you Jason.

Ready to be lost zoned? >:]

anyways, de-evoluter can and has been worked around by good g-dos play-aaas.

In fact, it worked around my ultra trollish jirachi/mightyena/mime deck tonight. I was even five prizes ahead and just needed to use it once! By golly!

Hard to squirt out a de-evoluter on a belted gyarados that can warp/seeker or SSU :C

real talk

Mime Jr is still going to be Regimoved right away, and like other posts, your post is still not funny either.
