Is Gyarados a Suicide Play for States?

Just as an example while I was testing last night Genlost Vs. TrainerDos Genlost beat it almost every game. Early pitch dark lock hurt it and the number one problem that faced the gdos was it not taking prizes because every time the Dos would Tail Revenge unless it had double flash bite the Gengar Prime would just retreat Seeker it back to the hand and then fully evolve back up again thanks to the BTS. Gyarados has a really tough time winning when it can get a knock out a turn, since my Genlost list technically runs 7 Seeker it has no issues at all with healing the damage off due to seeker.

did your speed dos not run cyclone energy and pokeblowers?

The Gengar does have a regular attack that'll 2 shot a lot of bench Pokemon. At some point I'd assume the player would catch on to that strategy and take a prize or two.

It's gonna have a hard time 2 shotting benched pokemon with gdos's seeker/scoop up abilities.

Gyarados can hold it's own against Turbo gengar, Trainer lock Lost gar would be harder to deal with but i'm assuming it's still winnable.

Playing Gyarados, I managed to beat a Lostgar with Vileplume whenever I got a T2 Gyarados hitting for at least 60, which is quite a bit easier than you may think.
If I didn´t, they won.

This means Gyarados stands a chance if it can dish out the damage - the Lostgar player did Lost Zone one Magikarp with Devoluter, but after that they weren´t able to hurl too much whereas I took a few prizes here and there.
Since Lostgar plays on time, we had a timer running - Lostgar simply had issues getting Pokémon in the Lost Zone.
The reason for this is that I never had any Pokémon in my hand, meaning they had to Cursed Drop their way out - and not only did I play Seeker, they did.
In the end, the Lostgar player had 4 Pokémon in the Lost Zone because of three Seeker and that one Devoluter.

I´m positive Speed Gyarados is a good play for States, but I´m yet to see a list for it meaning I have virtually no idea about how to make it consistent and how to modify it for my personal playstyle (seriously, I´m horrible at building lists, but adjusting them is easier :p)
My current build runs a normal balance with Trainers and Supporters alike, playing Poké Drawer+ and actually Sage´s Training. It may not be the best one though, so I´m looking into it.

As for teches, I would do Dialga G LV.X if I only had the space. Shutting off Vileplume, if only temporarily, helps a bunch in two matchups which otherwise are technically the worst for the deck.
Mew Prime I haven´t tested, but it seems quite risky.

Gyarados isn't a good play, but it's not because LostGar is good. LostGar is pretty bad in the grand scheme of things.

However, LostGar still beats Gyarados. No way the Gyarados can take six prizes before the LostGar Lost Zones six if a Karp gets Hurled anywhere.

SPs just give it so much trouble right now. Most good lists DO run at least 1 counter stadium (Dialga runs 3-4), and that BTS hit is crucial. Many have also increased their Spray count to 3-4, a crucial Spray can cripple the Gyarados. Also the Luxchomps running Expert Belts really seal Gyarados' fate.

I played Gyarados all throughout CCs including the GA Marathon. In retrospect it probably wasn't a good play then and it's certainly not a good play now.

Expert Belt IS the hurt. Gives Luxchomp 2 chances to overcome the exchange, more or less.
I don't really get the counter stadium thing though... with Dialga it doesn't matter how many they have if they're Deafening you. When they break Deafen lock, you'll probably always have a spare BTS because they've been locking you! 1 counter stadium would plain not hurt at all when you have 3-4 BTS that you normally only use 1 of in a game.

Gyarados, despite doing well at CC's really flopped at States last year, possibly due to that being the tournament that proved LC's dominance. I think it's more of an endurance thing, though... in larger events there's a lot of opportunities for fate to set you up w/ 30 HP Pokemon donks, which tilts top cut matches. I feel like the same thing will happen this year, but with less Gyara hype. Gyarados just hasn't done well in big events since its original surprise Worlds showing.

HOWEVER, this means fire decks will be WAY WAY WAY WAY more playable, and they haven't been for a long time because of Gyarados. I think Charizard could be a viable deck without it.

Gengar thrives off of Seeker, too. If Gyarados plays Seeker, it leaves the opponent free to get a Mesprit/previously retreated Gengar/Spiritomb/anything. Plus, that gives them a coming-into-play power AND a heal from their own Seeker when you normally only get the benefit of one.

Using Cursed Drops to 2HKO something is bad though. I'd rather spread 10 around 4 of their benched Pokemon and then attack with Gengar X a couple times (if you have it).

Gdos had great success in worlds 2010. It got 2nd in seniors and several made it high up in masters.
