Whoa, I just re-read Crash Hammer and realized it's only on the active.

That is bad. Like, really really bad. Who would ever use this, in any format?

Alright that's take a real look at this set. First off I'd like to mention I'm going to assume most if not all of these cards are going to come out after worlds and along with the rotation. Maybe they'll be broken up between two sets, but most likely they'll be in a BLW-On format. With that we can take a solid look at everything.

Venusaur It's quick search, but at the same time I'm not sure if it will have the same impact that pidgeot did back in its time. The reason for this is a couple of key factors. The first is that pidgeot was just better with a decent attack and decent retreat cost. The second is that we're in a format with catcher and a nerfed rare candy. Now that isn't to say it's not playable, but that is to say it's not going to find its way into nearly as many decks as pidgeot did back in the day. EDIT: as bullados pointed out, I completely forgot that it only searched for pokemon. with that I'm pretty sure it's the nail in the coffin for calling this a sub-par card. Really can't see this getting that much play.

Carnivine This card is very niche, but I could see it having some play in the right deck. We'll have to see in the future, but could definitely be a 1 of tech in something depending on the format.

Accelgor I like this card, but I don't really think it's that playable. Namely because it'll be a format without Vileplume and because you will have to count on poison KOing the other pokemon at the end of their turn. Assuming you wanted to run it as a tech, it would be a pain to run a shelmet. I'm sure this card will see some play at some point, but I'm not really sure it's viable as it's own deck.

Entei EX It's honestly not that good. Nothing much more to it than that. No reason to not just run the regular reshiram over it.

Blaziken It's not terrible, but once again I don't see any reason to evolve up to blaziken when you could just run reshiram who also benefits from eviolite.

Heatmor I don't see this being viable in every deck, but slower builds who will have problems with durant in a BLW-on format can definitely toss a copy of this in. Not really sure it was necessary, but I'm not going to complain.

Volcarona I'm not really liking this card. Burn has never really been that good of a condition and I'm not really a fan of running this for a potential of 20 extra damage on a coinflip.

Slowpoke and Slowbro Proof that Pokemon has a sense of humor. Deserved mention just for that.

Empoleon The weakness to lightning in a BLW-on format definitely feels terrible and the two retreat cost is a pain, but everything else about this card is amazing. Built in draw, good HP, and a good attack all combined make this card really playable. I'm liking it, save for the meta I feel like this could be a very viable choice.

Raikou EX I definitely feel like this card could be played in any deck with eels.

Plusle/Minun Feels like these 2 could be great early game cards. Shuffle in and draw 8 or the ability to spread on turn 1. Yes please!

Eelektrokss At least now you have a decent option for evolving your eels. Not that this card is great, but it's not that bad either. Definitely a viable in your decks that run eels.

Espeon It's definitely interesting. I think how playable this card is will depend entirely on the BLW-on meta.

Cofagrigus It's interesting, but at least at the moment I can't really justify running it. It feels like it would run out of steam too fast, although with the right build it could potentially run as a tier 2 or 3 deck.

Aerodactyl With that new stadium it's almost a searchable pluspower. I think this card will see play in decks that already run fossils, but other than that I can't see it being worth the room.

Sableye Another card that will depend on how fast the BLW-on format is. If it ends up being slow then this card MAY be playable, but I wouldn't count on it.

Darkrai EX This card's ability is amazing, but the potential to give up two prizes is a definite downside. I want to say switch may be better for most deck, but if you have the bench space and your opponent can't one shot it then there's no reason not to run it. After all the two prize downside is only a downside if they can catcher it up and do 180 damage.

Krookodile I like this card's second attack, but I'll be honest in saying it's way too slow to be a real competitor.

Zorua/Zoroark Ascension from zorua and 140+ on turn 2 from zoroark sounds really solid. On the other hand there's no real replacement for collector at the moment other than that alien pokemon that's not a darktype (I think it's called elygem or something?).

Tornadus EX I'm really split on this card. Overall I feel like it's better to play the normal tornadus since it's only slightly weaker but doesn't give up two prizes. On the other hand this card allows you to be really aggressive starting on the first turn (remember no pachi-shaymin).

Crash Hammer This card is the new lost remover. It's playability like lost remover will depend heavily on how many special energy are in the format and how much play they end up seeing. EDIT: just read Raen's post and realized crash hammer only works on the active. I still think it could see some play, but definitely plays down on the usefulness of this card.

Dark Patch This should have already been discussed, but it's a solid card for any deck running allot of dark pokemon and dark energy.

Rare Candy At least they aren't nerfing stage 2's any further like I almost thought they were going to.

Darkness Claw Really solid choice for any dark pokemon. Makes dark types immediately more powerful. This plus special dark is +30 damage.

Bad Team’s Jimu and Sabu This will definitely see play. I know it's on a coinflip, but the ability to destroy your opponent's hand is really tempting. Cards like this and N will continue to make tropical beach more and more of a attractive of a play. Just imagine having your opponent choosing three cards from your hand and putting them back in your deck before you even get to draw. Now tell me it's not worth the coinflip.

Twist Mountain Gives fossils some playability. Not great, but better than what we have now.

Pokemon Catcher I don't care that it's a shiny, it looks pretty and I wouldn't mind running it for bling. What I don't like about this is that it means catcher COULD stick around for an extra year depending on how this is released. Now that's a scary thought.

With that, I'm pretty sure that's everything I saw that looked like it was good enough to show up here in this post. If you think I missed anything important let me know. =3

This card leads me to believe that CoL won't be included in the Rotation in September.

Yeah I believe 1-2 sets is going to vanish in September, COL most likely will be one of them.

As for the above post about Venusaur, Pidgeot was also a colorless type, meaning it was in every deck, Venusaur is a watered down Pidgeot, I dont think its that great.

I think some of those cards also make Durant less likely to dominate to.

To everything throwing a hissy fit because they believe they are entitled to a Suicune EX, here's a quote from my friend Cally, who runs collectorviper, and knows more about the Japanese Pokémon TCG then 99% of you put together:

"It's interesting to see breaks in Trio cards that seldom would be broken up. Though much like Landorus' solo appearance in BW2, I suspect we'll be seeing ThundurusEX and LandorusEX in BW5, along with SuicuneEX. It's quite apparent that BW5 will be a parallel to Dark Rush thanks to this, if it isn't I'd be surprised."

Why are so many people assuming this won't come until after worlds? It seems fairly obvious to me that this set, along with all/much of Dragon Selection will be our May set.

Dark Patch This should have already been discussed, but it's a solid card for any deck running allot of dark pokemon and dark energy.

Attach an energy, use Dark patch, attach an energy from discard pile with it, use junk arm, retrieve and use dark patch again.

3 energy in 1 turn.

It makes dark a very lethal deck.

Because the sets are going to be likely to be piecemealed up and what we get is pure speculation. Maybe I didn't make it clear enough in my post, but basically we can't really be sure what we're going to get in our May set. Our May set could be part the last part of Psycho Drive/Hail Blizzard and a bunch of promos similar to what CoL was. It could also contain most of Dark Rush/Selection's.

Because of that uncertainty it was impossible for me to judge the set based on what we know since any of the cards could be thrown around in some random order. What we do know though, is that all the cards will definitely be available after worlds. Hence that was the best objective benchmark for me to judge them by. I didn't mean to make it sound like I was speculating what we were getting in May, simply trying to use the best benchmark possible for discussion.

I think I'm gonna build Accelegor/Gothetelle and recreate GlisTomb. Ahh, thats the ticket.

I can understand your reasoning for using post-Worlds to judge the cards, I appreciate the explanation.

Still though, I recognize it's speculation, but generally we can make pretty good assumptions as to what future sets will contain, using past experience and trends. Let me explain my logic:

We got some HB/PD cards in our NVs set (~14, from my quick counting). Not many, but a couple, plus we got all of Red Collection. So, that leaves the rest of HB/PD, the Reshiram EX/Zekrom EX decks, and Dark Rush.

We know there are 99 cards in Next Destinies. There are about 90, not including secret rares or full arts, cards from PD/HB that we do not have yet. With the SRs and FAs it's about 100. So, in theory, we will be getting most of PD/HB, with maybe a handful of cards (no more than 10 or 15) held back. That leaves us with about 20 cards from the EX decks, plus, let's judge on the high end, 20 cards from PD/HB we won't have after Next Destinies.

There are 69 cards in Dark Rush. Add 40 to that, we get 109, a good number for a set. So, maybe we won't get much of Dragon Selection in our May set, or maybe we will. Regardless, I feel safe in saying we will indeed get much of if not all of Dark Rush in May.

stuff we wont see anyway most likely, or it will be put as a uncommon and rare.
I can't tell if you are trolling or not, man. EVERY post from you I feel like this.

We obviously will get these cards. We get basically every card Japan gets. Not to mention, we would never, ever get shinies as uncommons or rares, ever. We never have before, why would we now?

I don't understand why people are calling Venusaur the next Pidgeot. It isn't. It's closer to being Nidoqueen Delta. And it's nowhere near as good. It only searches Pokemon and has a terrible attack, unlike Queen.

Fair enough, I skimmed over it because I read it before and completely forgot that it only searched for pokemon. I'll take that one as my bad as it really was. On that note, it really isn't all that playable at all. =/

I can't believe they made a Shiny Pokemon Cather and a Shiny Archeops.

I think these Shiny remakes.

It's actually pretty smart. They take cards that have really potent abilities that may be hard to get because they only come from one set, and they reprint them. Instead of having one large reprint set near the end of a block, they insert reprints throughout the block. At least if you pull ANY of the shinings, you know you have a good metagame card. That hasn't always been possible to say in the past.
