Right now, you guys should be focusing more on consistency than techs. LostGar will never be what it was(and is) In japan for two reasons:

1. Japan got to play it with claydol.
2. Japan is HG/SS on, easily making it BDIF.

Then again, assuming we don't have a mid-season rotation to HGSS-on, we have palkia GX which I think is huge personally, being able to lost zone 2 pokemon without even using an attack.

In terms of consistency...yeah I am unsure what will be best. Mew or spiritomb starts I think would be pretty good..maybe even sableye for a faster set up...it's obviously gotta be tested a lot. Kind of silly to make these prophecies how gengar will not do as well when call of legends really hasn't even been released -.-

edit:

4 smeargle start would be pretty cool actually, being able to seeker more than once in a turn would be nice for late game as well

I can't believe the things people are saying on this thread.
I don't understand how you're getting your numbers for pokemon going to the lost zone. Take the gigas matchup. Gigas, even with a dialga tech, only runs like 15 pokes or so. You would be lucky to get more than a few seeker'd pokemon into the lost zone via hurl. It is just too easy to clear out your deck and manipulate your hand. Regice, junk arm, bebe's, communication, collector then discard. You can't tomb under lock which means you'll be relying on seeker which means you won't be setting up. What are you going to seeker an uxie and wait 4 turns until you can use it? Also, strategic sacrifices make using twins tough. Through all this time, I am using drag off either taking prizes or forcing you to attach and retreat.

Yes, that's why I said "ideal situation", and those numbers aren't exactly unreasonable. I wasn't talking specifically about lostgar vs gigas either...

Agree with consistency part, yet with claydol and everything, lostgar did poor in Japan thanks to porygon and time.

Also, sure Japan is HG/SS now but I haven't heard anyone using lostgar in any of the gym challenges they do there, and since Zekrom Speed deck and other meta deck usually out speed it, or disrupts it or pretty much OHKOs the primes so, doubt that lostgar is BDIF in Japan now.

At least someone knows what's what in Japan. I love all the speculation that people over here come up with, from not acknowledging the Japanese version of LostGar to completely making stuff up about LostGar being the BDIF. I haven't heard of LostGar being the BDIF in an HGSS-on format (at least from anyone I think would know such things), yet I've seen many people say just that on the PokeGym.

What kinda problems does lostgar have with t-tar? It seems like a difficult match sense if they can get just one set up then you have a 160 hp monster(it would take 4 turns to knock it out with cursed drop!) that spreads to your whole field, gengar is weak to it, and it can one shot gengar for two energy with a belt. Your thoughts? I understand that you want to get as many pokemon in the lost zone as quick as possible to just end the game but it is to terribly difficult to manipulate your hand for a few turns to keep pokemon out of it making it impossible to lost zone enough pokemon to win.

We-alll.... OBVIOUSly... we got a Gengar Prime in pokémon,
He's lookin in yo hand,
Lost Zoning yo' pokémon
so y'all need to
Hide yo' Garchomps
Hide yo' Gyarados
and hide yo' Uxie too
'Cause they Lost Zoning everyone in here

On a more serious note, I think only time will tell how good the deck is. Plunge into Darkness is far from infallible, but don't make the mistake of thinking that's all a Gengar deck will do, or think it's the only way to send pokémon to the Lost Zone either...

Hm, the only thing I see wrong with this deck is that it relies a lot on a Stadium. Using something like Marowak, Flygon, or your own stadium can hurt this deck a bit. That and if all Lost Worlds happen to be prized.

Hence why I'd say play 4 and don't drop it till you've won.

Gengar Prime is Overhyped ! Way overhyped ! Just to stay on the topic of the thread... Been testing it everyday for a week with differen't starters and pokemon and trainer lines... this deck is easily beaten !

thats for sure going in my sig

Ok you hit them for 120...and now what? attampt cursed cursed drop next and hope they aren't belted. doesn't seem like the most effective tech imo

^oh and LOL

promocroak

60x2 = 120 also doesn't it poison the defending pokemon ? so

120+10 =130 and if it is not retreated or healed when it is your turn

130+10 = 140 now cursed drop

140+40 =180 T-Tar lost zoned ! and the rest of the line as well !

Over 300 posts and only three full lists? Considering the number one issue with this deck is the lack of certainty on how to even play it...

Anyways, as anyone who reads my blog knows (or anyone who skimmed through this whole thread), there are a ton of ways to play the deck. At the moment, I'd lean towards just a vanilla Gengar list, not too dissimilar from Elite 4 Allen's.

Exactly. What good T_Tar list wont have a way to get past something like this. especially seeing how promocroak is commonly run in sp. And we all know how popular they are. Wouldnt it be comepletely retarded to not have a means of getting past this? maybe with something like, idk...warp point/enrgy seeker, poke healer+, blissey pl/prime.

just saying.

The Promocroak tech in SPs is a big reason Tyranitar Prime hasn't been successful in the past... with some Gengar Prime lists already teching in SP lines such as Palkia G Lv.X, Absol G Lv.X, and Chatot G, along with partial SP engines and Psychic energies, a Promocroak tech would fit in seamlessly and pose big problems for Tyranitar.

Honestly, Promocroak is what is going to make a competitive lostgar deck. The fact that gengar prime really only needs 1 psychic energy to attack and lost zone pokemon gives an advantage to lostgar. This gives gengar the ability to charge up other gengars/promocroaks to counter the deck that is being faced. Still however, sudden death matches are an issue but I think like many other risky decks i.e. uxie donk lostgar should just except the loss in sudden death matches and move on, similar to an uxie donk deck playing against vilegar.

Promocroak offers flexibility to the deck that decks like dialgachomp and luxchomp have. That is the whole reason that luxchomp is so good and has lasted as long as it has, flexibility. Promocroak offers a distraction to any dark deck and sp match. If they focus on taking out the croak then those turns are yours to lost zone pokemon and get closer to a victory. If croak is ignored then he is a revenge killer and other tactics can be used by gengar to win the game. Croak is much like palkia g in this deck, in the sense of being a distraction and nuisance, but doesn't add the lost zone capabilities. Distractions in this game are vital and often a key to winning games. JMHO
