Ok...you are going..so who is MATT TYLER?

Matt Tyler or Dr. T as he is known in judging circles won the St Louis Gym Challenge today...15+ division.

Why is Matt so GREAT?

1. Hasn't played competitively in at least 2 years
2. Showed up to help judge and found out he wasn't needed...so he played
3. BORROWED a deck sight unseen from Mike Kendle---Gengar/ Pidgeot
4. Made it into the top 8 with a 3-2 record.
5. Went into every game EXPECTING to lose
6. Defeated at least 1 DRAGTRODE DECK with Gengar (which is weak to the ENTIRE dragtrode deck)
7. Took out the TOP seed playing LBS
8. Defeated Mike Kendle in the championship game with the deck he had borrowed from Mike.
9. AND he is just an all around nice guy...: )

Ok, ok....exageration...I know...maybe not th Worlds Greatest....but he did do real good huh?

Concede?..where did that come from...

Mike wanted to win it..so did Matt. aka Mega Murkrow

Mike K was playing Mewtrick...his own style.

No conspiracy here...Matt is really good, he is just busy getting into Med School...He is a former STS finalist also

Well If I gave a friend who was just starting/getting back into the game a top tier deck. And we both make it into the finals I would almost expect him to consided. Tho I would say to play it out. I would feel kinda of backstabbed if it happend to me and they didn't once say something similar to; this is your deck, and if it wouldn't have been for you, I wouldn't be here, you should win.....

This is good common sense WHY????!!!!???? Good lord man, make them WIN it at the tables!! Not give decks to people and "expect" them to concede to you when they meet you in a match. Talk about possible collusion allegations. No one should expect a concession from anybody in the finals of a GC (or any event that carries a trip to Worlds) unless it is your CHILD you are playing. I just dont understand so of the people's thinking in this game sometimes. I am sooooo glad that we didn't have any such talk/chatter at out GC yesterday.

Congrats to Matt! GJ and way to show the "pros" that "judges" can play too!

Mike and Matt's finals match was sooo not about anything but 2 friends sitting down and having a fun, friendly match of pokemon. Yes there was a trip on the line, but these 2 guys are CLASS. They are mature guys who know what its really all about.

I know Mike wanted the trip and to repeat as the winner from last years Gym where HE made a surprise appearance at Dragon King and snuck the trip away from many of St Louis's best.

Both of them are competitors and realize to win, they had to beat the other and were not looking at having something handed to them.

Oh...I forgot...Matt played 2 practice games with the deck right before the tournament and lost 1 of them to a 4 year old ...so the legend grows...

That's one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. Friends don't do that to friends. Especially friends like Michael and Matty. Michael would never expect Matty or anyone else to conceide just because they were playing with our deck. It's a game. Yeah, there's a lot on the line, but would you put a friendship on the line by being upset that your friend beat you out? It happens all the time. [PS: Gengar, a top teir deck? I love gengar and all...but I'll have to disagree, and save it for another topic discussion]

I don't mean to sound harsh, I just think that it would have been absurd to think that way.

On a lighter note, I would have picked no finer a man to win over Michael. I have a lot of love for Dr. T. :thumb:

Happened before, I went 5-1 w/ Blaze and 2-0'd T4 but lost 1-2 in the Finals to Rock-Lock (same player I lost to in swiss) at my first tournament, then went on to go 6-0 in swiss, 2-0 in T4 against my WORST matchup (Rock-Lock), and 2-0 in T2 ALL WITH A DECK I MADE MYSELF (Dark Slowking) before any news about the japanese playing it with crappy Meowth/Wobbuffet arised in my second tournament. But, anyway, GJ Matt!!:thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Hey I don't remember any practice matches!! I mean, what? Er, yea... I lost to a 4-year old pre-tourney... and the other practice match I lost was to a golden retriever... <_< >_>

Anyways, I really appreciate such a nice post for me. Thank you to all for the congratulations! To clarify, I don't think I'm the greatest player by any stretch of the imagination - I just happened to get a lot of good luck when my opponents got not-so-great hands. What a great Top 8 though. Every match was against a good friend so I never cared if I won or lost cause I knew someone cool would be going on.

And no, Mike didn't expect me to concede in the finals at all. He didn't "plant" me in the tourney to pad his way to the trip, he gave me a deck so I could have some fun and maybe even get a trip to Worlds since it means a lot to me as well (I had a great time staffing the event last year and I really wanted to be able to do so again). And believe me, everyone around was QUITE aware of the fact that I was playing Mike's deck - I made it quite clear that it was thanks to him that I got anywhere.

I wish Mikey the best at the next tourneys and I am looking forward to seeing him at Worlds... from behind the registration table :p And thank you Lynn for not ripping my face off after winning with your Gengar

Thanks man. I'll definately see you there, plenty of chances for me. It was an awesome match.

Clay, you forgot that he had to play 3 dragtrodes, and one was a best 2/3.

For anyone that cares about the post above somewhere, I would never expect Matty to just give me the win. Anyone that was there watching the finals can tell you that we bantered back and forth the whole time jokingly saying things like, "Judge, my opponent won't give me my deck back." and "I'm a judge too so I'll just DQ you." all followed by a prompt "I'll allow it." from Vince, LMAO. The whole time was fun and that's how the game should be. We laughed and were relaxed and it made the game much less stressful then it might have been. Matty is an amazing player and if I had to lose to anyone then I'm glad it was him. I really hope more people can have matches like this where they are actually fun, good games that you can enjoy and look back on years later to laugh about.

Have a major tourney at Dragon King.

have 2 of the old guard from Dragon King (Team Ream?) end up at he finals table...2 people who we all adore up at that gym./..

Talk about a perfect ending...

Matt, didn't that 4 year old teach you to play the deck???

Boy, misinformation is fun!

Another Murkrow filled Worlds!!!

M45

Brooks did the same thing with a Hariyama ex deck and "like 5 games of practice under [his] belt" (straight from his mouth) at a Gym Challenge last year. It's like riding a bike (for those guys, anyway!).

Conspiracy.
Seriously, that's pretty much the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard in this game.

*AGREES*

People who put no effort whatsoever into playing this game are winning trips, while those that try hardest are missing out? What is happening?

Maybe I should just not think of Pokemon for a week, then grab a random deck last minute at Seattle. Maybe then I'll beat everyone.

Practicing 2-3 hours a day sure doesn't seem to be working.:nonono:

matt tyler is too good for practice. If you're not matt tyler, then you should probably still practice.
