Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Midwest Trading Card Game Regional Championship April 12-14, 2013

Midwest Regional Championship Weekend

This event is open to all players and is run using the Swiss pairing format, so you can play through each round and never be eliminated. Regional Championships are a great place to show off the power of your decks strategy and showcase your play skills! The top players of the Regional Championship are awarded prizes for showcasing the skills needed to do well in such a large event.

When preparing for a Regional Championship Tournament make sure you have a Deck that is ready to play in a competitive sanctioned tournament. To do this first check that your Deck complies with the current Modified Format Regulations. After checking your cards are legal for play, you will then need to fill out a DECKLIST!

If you are using sleeves be sure they are all the same color and size. Damaged sleeves will NOT be allowed for this event. Shiny backs or printed backed sleeves will also not be allowed.

* Travel awards, travel stipends and byes are awarded to the winning Canadian or United States player and are awarded to the National Championships corresponding to the player’s nationality. A Canadian player is therefore eligible to win a travel award to the Canadian National Championship from an event hosted in the United States, and vice versa.

** Byes do not ‘stack.’ If you have won a bye in another event such as the SPT Championship and finish in the top 2 of a Regional Championship, you will receive a maximum first- and second-round bye at your National Championships.

† Travel awards do not “stack”. If you have won a travel award at a previous Regional Championships event, the travel award will pass down to the next eligible player. If there is a stipend awarded to the player who the travel award is passed to, it will instead be awarded to the player the travel award was passed down from. Travel stipends DO stack, meaning that a player may earn multiple travel stipends

Sounds great! When we get closer, let's make sure to let the local media know before the event-we have an excellent chance of getting some coverage.

Jimmy, I'm officially volunteering for Staff. Tell me where you need or want me that weekend.

Are there any hotels that are within walking distance that are cheaper?

There aren't that many downtown hotels in Madison. Within walking distance your best bets seem to be the Best Western Inn on the Park or the Doubletree, both of which appear to be in the 120-130/night range. Otherwise there are hotels on the East and West sides of the city that are cheaper.

The Monona Convention Center was outstanding this year--I'm looking forward to the next one!

Last time some attendees benefited from some spectacular Hotwire.com deals at the Hilton attached to the venue. (Thanks to those of you that posted that news to PokeGym. $50/night, if I remember correctly.) I don't know whether stars will align again, but it's certainly something to look out for.

I guess I should rephrase that. Is there a cheap hotel within a 5 minute drive? $5 a day for parking isn't too much, but if I can get a hotel within a 5 minute drive for about $80 a night I'd be happy! Thanks again for your help though!

There are a couple by 94 for about 40-50 a night.

Thanks a ton! If anyone knows of a great hotel they'd recommend staying at, I'll try to book it through hotwire or something.,\

Last year, I got the hotel attached to the center for$55. Don't count on getting that again. Hotwire is a really good resoire for this kind of stuff.

I'm gonna do my best to make it up to Madison this year. Always enjoy your events Jimmy!

Go get 'em Jimmy and crew!

Wish you all nothing but the best.

May have just a few players from this weekend coming to see you!!!

Vince

Hotwire.com hotel update:

There is currently a 3-1/2-star, "State Capitol - Univ. Area - Central Madison area" hotel available on Hotwire for $58/night. Based on the amenities (free parking, free internet) it was clearly not the Hilton attached to the venue, but I booked it anyway. It's the Sheraton Madison Hotel, on the south end of Lake Monona, ~2 miles from the venue. (I had hoped it would be the downtown Doubletree, but oh well.)

We'll have to see whether the Hilton becomes available.

You guys are definitely going to want to plan on this one! Those of you who were there last year know it's an amazing venue with plenty of space for everything we'll have going on! And besides some great competition with some of the most fantastic players around, there will be a lot of fun things happening for your total Regionals experience!

If you know someone, like a parent of a player or someone with friends playing who would still like to be a part of this wonderful weekend, I'm looking for some helpers for the Activity Area, (Sat, Sun or both) so have them contact me, ok?

Can't wait to see you all there! Our MW Regionals is always like a huge reunion, such a great chance to catch up with all your Pokemon friends, especially those you don't get a chance to see that often! Jimmy, Troy and I, and ALL those involved, will be working very hard to make this YOUR special event, a weekend to remember, so don't miss out!
