Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

My Beef With Some People

Alright I'm not going to name any names or anything, or bash anyone, it's just something I want to get out in the open.

Summer, 2006 (or sometime around there), Holon Phantoms was released in the United States. I go buy a pack, and guess what I get. I get a reverse holo Raichu d.

"COOL!" I thought.

I saw much potential in Raichu, so immediately I decided to start building a deck for the rat. I decided to name my deck "Dragchu", seeing as some people usually combine their main Pokemon names in their deck together. "Dragchu", as you may think, stands for Dragonite and Raichu. I spend some good time using the deck and working out all the kinks and I found the deck to be VERY fun.

Then sometime that summer, July I think, Origins 2006, Martin Moreno wins Nationals once again with a suprise deck "RaiEggs".

The info hit PokeBeach, and PokeGym and people started to make their own list of the deck. I never posted my deck anywhere (Dragchu). Soon after I go to my local store and wow, how sad this was. People started to call me names just because I ran a similar deck to the one Martin had used to win. They said "Why can't you be more original and leave the top tier decks alone. Stop *explicit* around and make your own deck."

I was amazed at that, they didn't know how much time I worked on this deck before it even became famous. I'm not saying I was the first one to think of a Raichu d combo, there's plenty of people I bet, Martin Moreno just happened to be the one to take the deck to the top.

Not only did that happen in real life, on casual games on Apprentice with a few individuals, I was turned down and insulted just because I ran the deck. What the heck is that? Remember LBS? A LOT of people ran that deck, and nobody said anything. What made this deck so different? Was it because I was running it?

So anyways, have you ever been treated like that? Just because you happened to run a deck which happened to be popular and all of a sudden nobody likes you or wants to play you anymore. How would you react to something like that?

another reason why overreaction to netdecking is annoying

copying a deck is only part of the story. having the ability to take it to the top is another. people should not be bashed for merely playing with someone else's deck.

Some people are so insecure.

If they're teasing you, it's probably because you beat them often (don't know actual circumstances).

If people don't want to let you play your own deck, stop playing with them. They are not worth your time. Play with people who will respect whatever decisions you make.

This is news? This happens all the time - to anyone that makes a deck similar to a champ deck.

yeah i agree with that. i've encountered plenty of players who end up crying about my deck because they keep losing to me. they run out of things to insult me about O_O

I HATE/LOATHE Anti-netdeck people. Even the big players say don't feel pushed into using red face paint decks.

You need to ignore these people. Regardless of what you run under whatever circumstances, you have complete freedom to run that. If others can't respect that, then it's their problem.

I get that a lot with the net decking thing if I use a deck that's popular. I just simply remind my opponent who's winning games and who isn't, that maybe I'm not the one that needs to adjust my playing since they are the ones constantly on the bottom brackets with their "original" piece of crap deck.

The fact is, using ONE card from a deck don't make it netdecking. You've done nothing wrong. And even if you did copy another deck, it's your business. Just ignore those other kids.

And here I was thinking that the horrendously militant anti-netdecking kids had grown up after the Dojo died. How wrong I was.

the people at your local league treat you like that? I though the people at your league were the closest ones, I wouldnt go to such a place if i was you buddy.

whoever insulted you must have not won a single tournament in their lives, don't let this get to you.

I don't get it...why would people make fun of you if your deck has Dragonite and Raichu d? RaiEggs uses Exeggutor and Raichu d, not Dragonite and Raichu d. Your deck sounds completely different imo.

People call you a netdecker even if they just see the main card from the archtype in your deck. This happened lots of times when I had a Medicham ex/Kingdra TRR deck going.

That's a shame...
