Man, why do I suddenly feel like a deer in headlights with the next major event to go off!

I hope that I am not hit with the same kind of rocks Steve and Margaret were hit with....

Yes Vince, we expect you to pull off a totally hitch-free event.... lest you be stoned in the same manner others before you were. :)

As a player and father of 2 players 10 and under in multi events in other games at Origins - I'll put in my 2 cents. We played Pokemon(Nintendo), Duel Masters(Wotc), and Marvel VS. (UDE). Now I can vouch that neither of these 3 tournaments went off without a hitch and without delays.

Because of pure experience and running tournaments the longest Wizards had the least glitches. Their start time was only 30 minutes off the posted start time. On a side note, with numerous discussions that weekend with Origins staff and other gaming staff, the start times are just recommended start times to publish in the Gaming schedule book and when pre-registering online. The games do not start right on the dot. For every tournament we played we had to fill out the extra little blue sheet and a deck check list.

UDE Marvel Vs./YugiOh - I was one of the lucky ;) ones to stay up till 4 in the morning on Saturday(Actually Sunday by then) to witness Nationals. UDE was just wrapping up their National events too. I cant comment on their software but both of their tournaments had over 200-300 players each. In the tournamnet we signed up for we waited for 1.5 hours past the start time to start playing also.

Pokemon Nationals - We all know by now what happended here. What can I say? I think for their 1st major tournament Nintendo staff handled it as best as they could. Im not sure if there were any PTO's that volunteered to help fix the software problem but input from PTO's that have been running large scale Challenges should be taken into consideration by Nintendo. We are all in this together. For those that are attending Worlds, lets all make sure this is a very successful and pleasurable experience for all. The last thing this game needs is for other companies and players of other games to hear is that it sucks and that they dont know how to run tournaments. This will do more harm in recruiting new players and such. And we all know when we need new 10 and unders to keep this game thriving.

Overall, I spent about the same amount of time and money if not more than any one else. It was my 1st Origins and I wouldnt trade it in. We had a blast and it felt like it was only 1 big huge day. Thats how fast it went by. I think that Pokehoser you should contact PUI directly for a solution. I see that you are a new poster but not new to the boards. So I hope that you come back. :D

Man Oh Man, I had to go back and re-read the first post to remember what the heck this topic was about in the first place since it got so........ altered?

Anyways,
Let Me State, NO I was not at nationals, and for that matter, I have no real idea of what went on there,
However, as a member of this online community, I feel that I can help.... how?
well, by rephrasing what I believe the origional essence of this perticular thread was... and hey, if I'm wrong, then oops, I'm wasting approx 1 minute of your time by making you read this.

So then, I think if we boil this down into it's essence, This should really be a debate on wether or not large scale pokemon events are worth turning into a large investment/vaction. Was nationals held at origions worth planning a trip around? will future large scale pokemon events be worth it?

So Looking at it this way, I would considder the opinion of the origional post by pokehozer to be a big no, and his suggestion for additional compensation is his way of showing how pui could have made it worth it for him.
then there are others that found it to be a fulfilling family vacation. such as team cook.

I dont think anyone on this thread is tring to post blame, or debate exactly what went wrong at nationals, just wether or not it makes for a good vacation.

I disagree with you that the intent of the original post was to poll or debate whether or not large Pokemon events which people have to travel to is worth it. Pokehoser didn't even question that. He merely mentioned his dissatisfaction with the event, and tried to rally others behind his cause. He felt that he --and others -- are owed some compensation by PUI. He suggested that entry to Worlds would be an acceptable compensation..... Most (if not all) of us disagreed.

I also don't think that spending a few days in Ohio at Origins would qualify as a "fulfilling family vacation". We were there for Pokemon -- that's it. We had a great time. And we would do it again, but it was not a vacation.

If the issue you are trying to raise here is whether it is worth spending your family's "vacation money" or budget on this, my answer is probably NO. But, if you do, don't come in here and gripe that you didn't get your money's worth.

If you are trying to start a poll on whether events like this should be held, my vote is YES * ABSOLUTELY! :)
