Nationals Date?

what ALL of them? that has to be against the law. Anyone know a good lawyer, we might need one if we take the bard's advice.

Well, a rational thread about the delay on particulars for Nats (at least the couple last pages that I read).

The point about family visitation schedules was not something I thought of but is very well taken. Not to mention vacation requests and all the rest. No news at this point is no one's idea of an acceptable thing. It's hard to take and getting harder.

Bail out? Would be regrettable! Some might have to, though.
Primal scream? OK, just a sec... *covers ears*
Grin and bear it? If you can.

Hope!

Until something is affected majorly (as in, a cancellation of tournaments/products/whatever) I see no reason to begin moving onto other TCGs, etc.

Nothing has happened yet. They are late. Yes. But to say that you're getting into other games, or quitting the game because they are 2 months late with an announcement is just jumping the gun a little bit.

We are all worried.

Might be bringing back up an old point here (as I only read the past two pages), but last year's Nats advertising really didn't start kicking into high gear until during the States runs. So, in theory we could be waiting until MARCH for an announcement *groan*.

I agree with ryan that no one should be jumping ship. We have a solid OP. They're still organizing events, keeping track of ratings, set a date for Worlds, etc. Anyone considering jumping ship to another TCG over the delay of a Nats announcement is stupid. While I am a bit peeved that I have to put a big chunk of planning for the summer on hold over this, its NOT the end of the world.

I do hope the announcement is sooner than my assumption but, if it isn't, then life will move on. Just keep the last week of June/first week of July open as that's when Nats usually hits and you should be fine. And start saving for plane tickets since we have no idea where this thing is yet...

The sooner the better is always nice. We live in Columbus and we had to make the decision to NOT buy the cheaper 'early bird' tickets to Origins because we are assuming that Pokemon Nationals will be the same weekend and some place we can and want to go. My hubby is not happy and he'll be even more mad if we are in town and it costs us more.... I'm sure almost every player/family has their own story.

YAY for a company that cares about there players!

seriously, people need to plan and save money for this. *sigh* well when attendance is down, they might learn a lesson. Key Word might.

Is nationals usually the weekend of 4th of July? Or the weekend before the fourth? If it is, I'm afraid I won't pretty much ever be able to go to nats...

I doubt they'll ever put it on the 4th of July weekend. Putting the second most important tournament of the year in America on the same day as the American Independence Day just strikes me as a wrong move. People would be more interested in celebrating than in playing the game. It's one of the reasons that Cities are generally not scheduled during the week between Xmas and New Year's.

Nationals has always been on the same weekend as the Origins Game Expo. Origins is traditionally held on the weekend before the 4th. There were a couple of times that it was run starting the 5th, but most of the time it's been the weekend before.

That kinda sucks for me - I'll never be able to go to Nats then because I'll be too busy preparing for Anime Expo.

I know of 2-3 CC's that occurred on the 27th. I attended one of them. IIRC there were a couple on the 26th as well.

Compare the number on that particular weekend to the number on any other weekend. There's a significant difference.

I agree, there were much less during the time period you mentioned, but they did take place. I wouldn't be surprised to see Nationals during a holiday weekend. A lot of families travel for 4th of July anyway (I've personally spent 3-4 of my Independence Days out of state in the last decade).

Pokemon isn't fundamentally tied to any religion, events shouldn't be not on certain dates because they are NEAR major holidays. On the flipside, a lot of people like events between Christmas and New Year's because they definitely don't have school concerns! Any of you working retail jobs probably have very opposite feelings.

As a retail employee I can tell you that i definitely don't like events that week.. its the busiest week of the year!

However, as far as Independence Day is concerned, Pokemon is a family event for many players; specifically for the players in the Juniors and Seniors divisions. Personally I know many families that make their summer vacation based around either Nats or Worlds, and i wouldn't be surprised if the Fourth of July was just another reason to plan the "big family vacation" for the year around both events simultaneously.

THIS IS THE PROBLEM I WAS TALKING ABOUT FROM THE START OF THIS THREAD. (Jan 14)
Today, FEB 3rd 2010, I had a request for my availability for a Work Meeting that I will be required to attend once a date has been determined. The meeting is for 8 people from other companies and states.

We are trying to find 2 consecutive days for the meeting this year and need input from you.
Please take a look at your calendar and advise us on your availability.

Tues-Fri June 15 - 18
Wed-Fri June 23 - 25
Tues - Wed June 29 - 30
Thur - Fri July 8 - 9
Tues - Fri July 13 - 16
Tues- Fri July 20 - 23

I had already blocked off July 1st and 2nd, thus that is why those dates weren't given..., assuming/guessing Nationals will be on that Date. If I am safe, I can just block off all the Thusday's and Fridays from Mid Jun to Mid July, and say I potentially have a POKEMON TOURNAMENT TO GO TO..... Yeah, that will go off really well. For this meeting, to get 8 peoples calendar's to line up is tough enough without people given 5 potential conflicts..... Thus once this date is determined, and Nationals weekend conflicts, I won't be able to make Nationals this year. (First one in 5 years)

MANY PEOPLE NEED THE DATES NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Venue, City, or Details isn't needed. Just Dates.
