Pokemon Organized Play has made it known to Tournament Organizers that "high roll" is not an acceptible alternative to flipping a coin to determin who will start the game. Rolling a die for "heads/tails" is still a valid option. Some Organizers have been enforcing this since Worlds 2007 where it was not allowed. POP spokesmen are firm that this is not a change as the rules have always called for a "heads/tails" determination.
Players should expect increased enforcement of the correct game action and it will be 100% enforced at the upcoming Nationals and Worlds events.
Remember, you can still use dice rolls to start the game, they just have to be evens = heads and odds = tails.
