Obama Wins! (Official)

What's bothered me the most about this election is the amount of ignorance present on both sides, even shown in this thread.

There's so many quotes to respond to in this thread...too many. I just think some people should go back and re-read what they're saying to this board.

Agreed Bolton, it's embarrassing to see some of the posts on here, especially the more childish ones coming from the side that just lost. You're representing your politics here, guys, think you can be a little more respectful?

Good luck to Obama. I hope he proves me wrong, and becomes a great president.

Cool. I was hoping that he would win. IMO, there is a possibility of him being assasinated in office. Oh well.. Either way wasn't good for us as a whole. Hopefully he will be a good pres. Anyway, I'm pretty happy about it.

EDIT: Does anyone know the Democrat/Republican ratio for the senate? I missed it.

According to CNN, there are 56 Dems, 40 GOPs, and 4 yet to be decided. I can pretty confidently say that, with 99% of the precincts in, that Ga went to a GOP, and the filibuster is still alive.

In the House, right now it's 251 Dems, 173 GOP, 11 undecided. Surprisingly, there's a lot of blue across the Bible Belt...

MSNBC has a similar result. Fox News has only conservatively declared 54 seats in the Democrats' favor.

Either way, they're short of the super majority. No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, this is a very good thing. A good exchange of political philosophy will at least still exist.

It has to, or else Nancy Pelosi will not be able to follow her agenda to the depths of ****.

Oh please.
If Nancy Pelosi was so "eeeevillll", then why didn't she pursue Impeachment proceedings against Bush and Cheney? She certainly could have.

The truth is, the Dems are not as bad as you're being told they are.

You DO realize that Congress has an approval rating of about 11% and it mainly (D), now what does that say.

Generally it means that they don't approve of government like you said ... or that they are frustrated by nothing getting done in DC and they may or may not be aware that Republicans have filibustered, preventing action, more times in the last 2 years than in any other time in the history of our country. Some republicans banked on making congressional democrats look like do-nothings and getting a majority back. IMHO it backfired.

I should note that the Republicans broke the record back in December of last year and have filibustered more since then. They also held the previous filibuster record they just smashed, set in 2001-2 when they were also a minority in the senate.

I prefer McCain, however Obama has the thing this nation is in desperate need of.

Enthusiasm, and the feeling of change.

I agree with the idea that Obama has the potential to really change the mindset of this country. I’m very hopeful that he will bring a spirit of optimism and a lessening of the angry divide we seem to be in the middle of. The latter is going to be tough though.

Someone asked awhile back how many here actually voted. Well, I did and have done so ever since I was 18. I have not missed an election since. I have voted on both sides in every election. I dont think I have EVER voted a straight party line ticket. (of course, I am including state and local elections in this) I vote for who I think will do the best job.

This year, I voted Obama.

Kettler: It was a GOP dominated Congress that tried to impeach Clinton for an affair! That is a personal matter between he and his wife, NOT the Nat'l gov't! When Clinton lied, nobody died, unlike Bush. (Dubya) At least when Nixon was being looked at for impeachment, it involved gov't issues. Like 'Pop said, Bush and Cheney could have been impeached by the Dem congress, but they haven't been.

i swear, nothing these republican supporters say make any logical sense. i bet in 2 years when this country is in good times again, the republicans will still be going "oh the united states is in horrible shape"

Crossing fingers that this doesn't happen. However, with Bush as our president people lost their jobs and big companies closed thier doors. Is that Bush's fault or those who are unable to adapt to the
notion of working for their money? Even The Great Obama can't help the lazy, money embezzling crooks
that ran those companies straight into the ground. Those executives saw thier company going downhill but I am willing to bet they cashed every paycheck they ever got, all multimillions of it. Survival of the
fittest. So good luck to Obama and more important good luck to America I hope we were ready for a change..... On an uplifting note the chances of me going to Iraq have greatly dimminished. Woot for that.

Another thing is that I hope Obama sticks to the big game he threw out in the runnings for presidency.
Truly Americans believe in his words. I think he can potentially break lots of peoples hearts and loose
their faith in the Red, White, and Blue. Again crossing fingers. We have intrusted him alot.

Another point is... It seems like the people I have seen on t.v celebrating where cheering for an
American Idol finalist not the freaking president. *Kinda Creepy*

Sorry, you're 8 years out of date.
Hopefully we can get some of those freedoms back now.

Can you say "wiretap"?
Privacy is a freedom? Boy, have I been reading the wrong documents. Overall, as a first-time voter, I have to say it was enjoyable yet sickening. I truely hope that elections don't always go this way and that they can get over and done with alot sooner.
Good luck to Obama. I hope he proves me wrong, and becomes a great president. *I think this would be a nice bumper sticker, instead of the old "Don't blame me, I voted for XXX".*

More and more, they've become like this. This was worse than 04 which was worse than 00, which in turn was worse than 96. The Senate and House elections can also get nasty, but they generally don't play out on a national scale.

Congratulations Barack Hussein Obama, our new 44th president of the United States of America!!!

Don't get too excited yet, he won the popular vote.

Until he wins the Senators' vote he's just a really popular dude.

Now, the Senators are supposed to vote according to popular vote, but we all know how Senators are...

Every state constitution except for 4 states that the Electors MUST vote for the candidate that wins the Popular Vote in that state. And those 4 states don't constitute enough electoral votes to overturn the outcome of this election.

With an electoral vote of 338 to 138, there aren't going to be 200 electoral voters who vote against popular vote. Not only this, but McCain formally conceded. This means even if by some miracle the electoral college manages to not represent their constituency, McCain is no longer in the race. Obama would still win.

I just heard on MSNBC that if the Auto industry reshapes to deal with the new sources of fuels it could cause one of the big three to fail and would result in 2.5 million jobs being lost. Also a Green Energy bill in CA recently got defeated because of the falling gas prices their, which is from what I heard means that people are now not really caring as much about green energy since oil is now about $65 - $66 a barrel at this hour.
